I don't think it's a matter so much of good vs evil a much as awareness vs oblivion. The aware individual has established a rapport with the forces which govern the workings of the Cosmos and has pierced the veil of banality, extricating himself from the abyss of mundane pursuits and achieving a measure of Cosmic Insight, with which he is able to insulate himself from the onslaught of the societal stripping of the soul.
