I love the covers my publisher has created for my stories. How much does a cover influence you when you pick up a book by an unfamiliar author?

I think since the author's work is what is being "covered," the author should have at least a vote or veto.

I'm sure once an author's name alone is enough to sell the book, they have plenty of say about the cover art. However, sometimes I think it's best to leave writing to the wordsmiths and visual arts to those gifted in that area. While I'm a serious art enthusiast, I don't pretend to know what works as far as stimulating a purchase, which is what covers are designed to do.
