If an Authors published book is used as a prop or featured in a film do they recieve royalty payments?

I'd say no, althought it's hard to say because litigation on properties is getting so aggressive and weird the law is changing like an amoeba.

But generally it works more like...if you want the heroine waving your book around you PAY "product placement fees" to the production company.
Ever notic ethw ay Jennifer Beals holds the coke can in "Flash Dance" or the Wheaties box on the table in "Rocky"? Bought and paid for.
