Marketing Your Book... Social Network Style

How important is social networking to market your book? And which do you think work the best in terms of actually selling more copies?

A few of the top social networks:

Twitter
MySpace
Ning sites

Blogging is a great idea because it creates all kinds of searchable words in your blog entry. My blog The Peanut Gallery is about the subject of my book, but thanks to discussing other things or other people in the blogs, i get increased page views.

i have profiles on Goodreads, Myspace, and Facebook, and also Gather, even though that is less popular, but so what, be a big fish in a small pond. I also create videos on YouTube, and upload them, then mention my book on my channel page. Not every video I make is on my book. Sometimes they are about music. But get a lot of video views, you get friends and subscribers, and you also get a lot of channel views. By the way, if you want to create and edit your own video but don't have footage, find some youtube videos that are fair use and download them with youtubeloader.com. use the mp4 file type, then use a free open source program like MediaCoder to convert to AVI. Then use your Windows Movie Maker to edit. Or get a friend or knows how to create videos.

Think book trailers, too, but try to use video, not just text and photos.

Myspace and Facebook are still excellent for creating fan pages and sending out status updates, etc. Just keep the friendship aspect to it, not just for promotion. Show support to others when possible.

Get others to read part of your book on Google books or at Amazon, then see if they will leave reviews on Amazon, and even cooler yet, add tags to your book's product page. Tags help increase traffic to your Amazon product page.

And if you want, spend a little money on Promoted Videos on YouTube. One of my book videos, a radio interview mp3, set to video to makie it visual, for several months it stayed at 12 views. Now after 1 month and $10 so far, it has 135 clicks. Also up are video comments on my other videos.
I have facebook, myspace and ning accounts but I must admit keeping up with them all is a challenge. I am finding that an assistant probably would not be a bad idea. I have a full time online ministry which keeps me busy and I do not have time to keep up with the marketing and promoting aspect of my books. Anyway the social networks do work but again keeping up with them is a challenge.

Dear Chris,
As a former U.S. Capitol attendant, I offer you Senate Parking. A 90 K word novel about a multicultural crew of parking lot attendants who operate an escort service from the Senate lots. A good look at the underbelly of our law making process. Senate Parking can be listened to at www.NewFiction.com
“Hill Intros” is the brainstorm of attendants unable to obtain employment within the confines of the Capitol. Senate Parking is the story of power structures, on a personal and national level. Done from the perspective of workers who see themselves without much chance of ‘making it’ in a culture of power drivers, Washington’s backdrop provides a tension all its own.
This book concerns every kind of shady deal for which the political arena is famous. Senate Parking is full of anecdotes which let freedom ring. I can provide you with a synopsis or with the complete manuscript – whatever you like. Either way, I’ll be in touch.
Sincerely,

Skeeze Whitlow
