The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I'd like to start a new forum where people can talk about what's working for you right now in marketing your book.

I think this will help other authors to prioritize their activities if they can find out what's working for other people. This would be especially valuable to new authors.

I've share the hottest tool that I'm using right now. And that's Twitter. As you will note on the main page of this Book Marketing Network website, both my http://www.bookmarket.com website and this network have been rising in Alexa ranks (and visits) because of my use of Twitter.

Can you be specific about how you are using twitter? I own a small publishing company (DreamtimePress.com) marketing a small number of books and looking for more effective ways to do that. I've announced the books on Facebook and Twitter, but haven't thought of any other ways to use twitter.

Hi Julia,

I just came back from the Massachusetts Conference for Women in Boston, MA and went to a Networking Session. They said Twitter is just a site for conversation. They highly recommended a "good, strong" blog, Linkedin and Face Book for Professional sites.

I took notes on Networking and put them into a document. I'd be happy to send anyone my notes if you send me an email at memoirs@albertasequeira.com.  My website is www.albertasequeira.com.

I plan to download them to my site and blog http://www.albertasequeira.wordpress.com.

Thanks, I'll check out your blog.

Can't say I'm into Twitter. I do a lot of other social media sites. The most productive for me is GoodReads. Still, all the social impersonal media can't replace the face-to-face people I meet at conventions, book fairs, schools and festivals.

Since I write YA fantasy, it's the kids I most enjoy connecting with. To see their faces when receiving a free bookmark, talking to class or read a story or poem one of them wrote. That makes all the effort, time and hard work worth it.

Greetings John & Fellow Authors,

I've been an author for 15 years. I've done it all when it comes to marketing. I must say, it's exhausting. Now, I'm helping people get their popular books and audios on TV, cable and radio.  I think eReaders are the wave of the future and media advertising for authors.

You can come to me for free and I can help you or you can do some research and advertise your book on TV, radio or cable.  Remember how Wayne Dyer became so successful? He bought all his books back and became a best seller. Yep, that's right. Now, I don't agree on buying all your books, but, for $1000 dollars you can get you book in the media.

When I work with clients my rates go from free to $495. I hope this helps!

Love

I checked your website but it talked about non-fiction books.  It also talked about manuscripts.  My novel is in print, e-book, and on Kindle.  Is there any promotional possibility for me?

Here's a good blog post about a person who found success in 2010 by changing e-book and publishing strategies. Here's how it starts:

"In January of 2010, I had one book on Kindle and sold 31 copies. I had two print books on the market with a small publisher, and they weren’t selling much better. In December, I had six books on Kindle and sold
over 10,000 copies. To get from point A to point B, I had to make some
radical decisions."

I'm not sure if this is going to "work" per se, but I'm attempting a year long project of chronicling my journey to becoming a published author. I start at the beginning with The Story Idea and progress through editing, the challenges of the publishing industry to marketing and all demands placed upon an author today.

A fellow author and publicist have graciously accepted my invitation to guest post on topics. The first post is up. So come take a "Peak into the Life of an Author" at http://www.allonbooks-thekingdomofallon.blogspot.com

Shawn,

I also chronicled my experiences in publishing my last book. It was very helpful for clarifying for myself what I was doing and also helped others. Now when others ask me questions about different aspects of publishing or writing, I can often point them to posts I've already done on the topic. Keep us linked to new posts as you put them out. Great to learn from each other!

Thanks. I check out your site. A lot of good info, yet my old eyes had a hard time reading the small type and I had to enlarge it. Part of aging process I guess, eyes get tried quicker. :(

Shawn,

Were you looking at www.enjoyyourwriting.com ? That's where most of my stuff currently resides - where I'm recording what's working and what's not.

I'm at the trifocal stage, so I know what you're saying. My designer told me that the smaller print was in, but I should have resisted harder.

No, the prior one you mentioned - Wisdom Creek.

Enjoy Your Writing is fine. And my husband wears tri-focals also. :)
