What's Wrong with Bartering Books for Video Games? Nothing.

Now that you've bought those video game systems and video games for Christmas, here's one suggestion for setting some ground rules on playtime and keeping those books on their shelves from just gathering dust.

Challenge your kids to read at least three chapters of a book (say 3-5 chapters for good measure) of your choice for every video game they want to play. And, once they read the entire book, be sure and reward them with something extra special. Video games are fun, however, do all you can to help cultivate a love for reading. Books should be enjoyed and looked forward to as a great quiet time option rather than a punishment or a last resort to passing time.

Just a thought,
P.F.
