Crowe, releases Changed By a Catch ~ What happens to an ordinary day when a young boy decides to do things his own way?  White dogs turn red, carpet is ruined, a briefcase is never going to be the same, and an eye looks like it ran into a big ink pad.  JJ is a young boy who faces some tough decisions.  What do you do if a stranger comes to your door? Do you obey your parents when they ask you to do something that doesn't seem important? Is it OK to give out information that could allow someone to get into your home? Do you have certain opinions about people because they may not be like you? JJ's parents have rules to teach him safety and help him avoid getting hurt, but he chooses to disobey. JJ learns a valuable lesson the hard way and realizes in the end never to underestimate anyone.

Cole’s Perfect Puppy by Frances M. Crossno is Book One of the Perfect Puppy series. Written for young readers, (ages 7-12), this book teaches core Christian values through a delightful, compassionate and sometimes humorous storyline that parents will love. Cole and Caleb are brothers. Their parents are photographers for a world geographic magazine, thus they live with their Uncle Bobby. Cole, the main character, desperately wants a puppy for Christmas. He finds the perfect puppy, but finds out along the way that hard work, treating others right and loving your neighbor as yourself are more important than his own wants.

 

Chapter one begins as Cole finds and falls in love with the perfect puppy (Scarlet), which is a golden retriever that he finds in a mall pet store. Packed with action, the little puppy escapes from the pet store and after a wild chase, young Cole and the mall security guard finally catch up with the fast pup.  Christmas morning comes and Cole is elated to find a “moving” present under the tree. To his utter shock, his Uncle Bobby has gotten him a quite a different present. One he was not expecting! His little brother Caleb can’t stop laughing as Cole finds him on the floor in an unstoppable belly roll. (You’ll have to read the story to find out what the pet was.) The story goes on from there as lessons are learned by the characters. The author gives help and hope from a Christian perspective that relate to life’s sometimes disappointing circumstances that can be overcome.

 

This book comes highly recommended (and is an award winning book) that offers clean and wholesome reading for children and preteen readers. Themed with a simple storyline that is encouraging, innocent, well-written and sheds light on the Jesus, salvation and the scripture, “Give and it will be given unto you . . .” parents will appreciate this adorable book. The humor is much appreciated, as well as the author asking the question, “What would Jesus do?” Thus leaving room open for discussion. A wonderful story that teaches some valuable life lessons!  

 

*This book would be a great gift for the Christmas season, but is recommended for any time of the year.

With several key concepts, the author speaks broadly of the evangelical movement that divides into two basic groups:  one group stresses the personal relationship with Jesus Christ while ignoring their social responsibilities to the poor and the other that stresses both a personal relationship with the Lord that encourages, “a practical evidence of their faith as expressed in our responsible stewardship of our entire life.” (p.xi) Beginning from Creation to the Fall of man, the author takes readers on a discovery through the Bible from Old and New Testament text that reveals a fascinating understanding of Scripture when it comes to becoming prosperous, what it means to live life abundantly and God’s structure of wealth. As the author states, “Our purpose is to arrive at a perspective about wealth and poverty which is in accordance with scriptural teaching.” (p.xii)

Within this, and by combining academic research, Christian theology and the varying facets of human nature, the world, sin and righteousness, the author shed lights on what the Church’s social responsibilities to the poor are from a Biblical viewpoint, thus answering key questions that come to mind regarding wealth and possessions. Mentioning that God has given us spiritual and natural laws that govern the universe, the author helps readers also understand fundamentals that qualify Christians to partake of the goodness of God that involves a firm commitment to covenant that must be observed. The book also reveals the dangers of wealth, and what it means to truly prosper.

Such chapters as: The Creation – Fall Events, The Concept of Possession and Poverty Invaded by Creation and Fall Event, The Sinai – Covenant Event, Wealth and Poverty in the Old Testament, New Testament Wealth and Poverty, Living in Truth – Sanctification, Christ and the Rich, The Teachings of Paul and Soteriological Implications. These chapters further reveal Biblical truths in such a way that one will be forever enriched, offering a balanced scriptural mindset when it comes to wealth, poverty and the worship of the Lord.
