Has anyone made/purchased these?
I'm looking to learn how to do this and what printer/vendor to use.
How do you get the picture of your book on the bookmark?

Thanks,
Rosalie

Hi Rosalie,

One way to do this is to first scan the piture you want copied to your computer. Then save this file to your pictures, documents or desk top. Once this is done go to your tool bar and click on "Bookmarks." And it doesn't matter what printer you use. Hope this helps!

Thanks. I'm talking about creating bookmarks for MY book.
Actually creating/buying bookmarks to give to people.

I don't know how to go about doing that.
Sorry for not being more articulate.

Hi Rosalie. I am actually doing this. I can give you the name of the vendor from which I bought the bookmark stock from when my husband returns later this week and if you want to call me, I can walk you through Word for Windows to help you create your bookmarks. What you can do in the meantime is to start brainstorming how you want it to look. Do you have a .jpg image of your bookcover? Please free to email me directly to get my phone number and I'll be happy to help you one on one.

I've created and printed a couple of different bookmarks for an author.

1. Pick a size. Much harder than it sounds. There are many different bookmark sizes. I picked a size that allowed me to get as many bookmarks on one page as reasonable but still be big enough to poke out of the book. You also need "bleed" space around each bookmark it has any cool images on it.
2. Pick paper. Are you giving away the bookmarks or selling them? Great paper for bookmarks in art type paper which is expensive if you do your own printing but have a great look and feel. The cheaper the paper, the more likely it will be thrown away.
3. Pick printing method. Are you going to have a printer do it or do it yourself? Outside printers can print on more types of paper including the heavy stock than you can at home.
4. Put enough info on the bookmark so that it can be used as a marketing tool. That means website, and anything you feel conformable revealing.
5. You can't get your entire book cover on the bookmark, so pick the most eye catching part of the cover.

I do all my work on Photoshop which makes changing things much easier.

Hi Rosalie.

There's a pic of the result attached.

1. I started with my book cover image.

2. Chose size 200mm x 55mm (that was the standard cheapest price for the online printers I chose.

3. Used paint.net (available free on line) - more functional than MS paint.

4. I got creative (can't tell you where that came from).

5. Uploaded the image to the printer. 2 day turnaround. 1000 bookmarks $62 (that's about $90 US).

Tips

When I send out review copies, I include a few in each copy. I leave them at libraries and other places.

I scaled the image up and printed on photo paper - it makes a great tall narrow poster.

Good luck!
