For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

Have you done a video for your book? Did you do it yourself or hire someone, or did you publisher do it for you? Did you bring the topic up to your publisher or publicist? Is there a company or freelancer you would recommend? Have you seen it help your sales at all? How important do you think videos are for book promotion on the internet?

I haven't yet read Allison's book (though everything she does is great_ but I thought this was a great example of a trailer that was simple yet classy. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1137420550265&ref=mf
If you want to do something simple, fast, and relatively cheap, I recommend animoto.com - You don't have a lot of control over how it moves your photos around, but you can keep remixing until you are satisfied. I've done a couple videos with them so far and plan to do more. These aren't book trailers, but other promotional videos. I am exporting this to You Tube soon but you can try my link here. It's the video for Invisible Illness Awareness Week.
I created my own book trailer using Powerpoint and getting free animated gifs off the internet. Then we purchased a royalty-free performance of a Beethoven piece from Sounddogs.com and $50 software to convert the Powerpoint to a .mov and/or mp4 format. I decided to do it myself after seeing a sample from my publisher which I was not impressed with. I have gotten quite a few compliments on the trailer from people on other social networks. I don't know if it helped my sales yet but since the cost was minimal it can't hurt. It is posted on YouTube, Facebook, Myspace and many other ning networks.

I think using video to promote your books is a great idea, but I'm also interested in how well it has worked for authors. Unless you're creating your own video (or photo montage) it can get really expensive.

I just finished my promo book trailer:
