I think you said you read through all the materials. I don't know if you summitted your name, email, and website where it asks for it.  I am going through my email now and will look for it. You will need to do that to join, but to answer your question more specifically, when someone has a launch of a book, other members of the network can offer to: announce his book on Facebook the day of the launch, post a tweet, host a guest blog for him, post a review, offer a free e-gift which will be advertised on the author's landing page (you will learn what this is if you don't already know), and post notices of the book on any other social networking sites you want to.

All the announcments must be provided by the launching author. We have, for example, a launch widget. If every author posted the widget on his site, that means that book is being advertised on almost 100 websites for a launch. It's massive advertising for a book, but only for a 24-hour period of time. The free e-gifts are the incentive to buy within that time period, which is what helps people to hit best-seller status for that day. As you read in the information, this is a sound marketing tool that is used effectively.

There are marketing people who are charging big bucks to learn this strategy, like in the thousands. We do it for free, and better, because we already have the Network set up for the massive marketing, whereas with everyone else, you have to contact your launch partners to announce your book launch cold turkey.

In addition to the above, on the forum, we share a lot of marketing information, and members help other members when they ask questions. We have some marketing gurus in the network, who are listed in our new author resource page, where if someone wants more professional help, they can receive it for whatever the person is charging, but you can get everything you need to launch a successful campaign for free if you are willing to work hard. As with everything, there is a cost, but not in dollars, just in some good old fashion hard work. But if you want to market your book, it does take effort. Hope this helps.

Even if you don't have a book you are fixing to publish, which not everybody does, you will learn a lot about marketing in general. And there is a comraderie that is unique. You don't have to worry about negative people. One negative comment about anyone on the forum, and that person is immediately removed from the network.  But because of the screening, that has only happened once.  So, hope this helps.

That's great. I'm all for that. I already promote other authors on my blog. In fact, Amanda, I'm waiting for you to pick a topic to post on. :)

Lorilyn, you still have told me what the authors do. Is it hosting each other? Being connected through FB and Twitter? I already do all those and would gladly accept more. If you want to advertise John 3:16, I'll put the widget on my blog.

Shawn, I'm one of those lurkers Lorilyn talked about. I'm learning from the posts of the members and so far, it's been a very valuable place to be. There is a spirit of oneness and sharing. I've been blessed to be a part of it even though I've only been a member for a short while.

Authors can do as little or as much as they want.  But the more they do, the more they will learn for themselves as well as helping others. It does require a spirit of giving. As the old saying goes, those who give the most receive the most. But giving is a choice. There is absolutely no pressure to do anything. Some people are lurkers, some are beginners, some have jumped in and made a splash. But there is a spirit of oneness.

Okay, so it's a collective effort then? I'm all for doing cross promotion and have guest authors on my blog.

I understand and appreciate what your view point and how this came about. What I also looked for was what do the authors have to do? I couldn't find that clearly spelled out.

Beause there is no cost, I can only accept a certain number at one time a three times per year at most. There is a lot of time and effort involved on my part. I have to have time for closed captioning for television (making a living), parenting (I am a single mom), my graduate classes on my Masters in Creative Writing (I am halfway through), writing my novel (due out next year), and I am president of the local Word Weavers Critique Group. Running the John 3:16 Network is a labor of love. I also do a lot of other things for authors, writing reviews, et cetera. I carefully screen those who I admit. And if I admit too many at one time, it's overwhelming from a time standpoint.

Hope this helps. Selling a marketing service -- I have no interest in that.  That is not my passion.

Yes, there's a little bit of mystery and suspense in there. I've really been thinking about getting your book for my daughter ~ she's the one that reads fantasy in our house!
