"Sacrabeus wasn't collecting children for the fun of it. No, he wanted something from them. He had everything that he desired except one thing: more time..." THE SORCERER AND THE DREAMER is very suspenseful, heartfelt, loving and hilarious.

Webster's defines a novelist as a person who writes novels. I didn't see anything about the public market. Some of the best novels in the world will never be read because the writer chooses not to share them. There are those that don't consider self published writers 'real' writers. I'm self published and of course I don't agree with them, but that's the way of the world. Don't get caught up in definitions and classifications. It's just a way to include or exclude, depending which side of the fence you're on.

Really, I don't see what the hang-up is about whether we are 'authors' based on the judegments of who published our novels. Thomas Paine was an author in the American Revolution. And I believe all he wrote was pamphlets.

Hi, I am thrilled to announce that Midnight Revelations - Vol. 1 in The Dark Whispers Series has been named as a finalist in ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year contest for 2008. It was submitted in the Horror/Fiction category and is one of four finalists. Winners will be announced in May at the BEA in New York City. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!

The moment someone buys your book, A.F., you become an author. It doesn't matter if one book is sold or one million.

Sorry-- I should have said "You've put me up there. . ."

Damn arthritic fingers!!

Oh, thanks Milton!
You've up me up there pretty high, buddy! But let me say I make money on royalties for my books---but I didn't say I mad a lot of money!

Still--we all are sticking our necks out and trying to fulfill dreams we've cherished forever. We've taken that big step few people do; we've taken our dreams and are trying to make them become reality.

That alone, my friend, makes us 'authors.'

You're right about two things. A POD company is not concerned about the quality of your work. They make money printing, period. It's up to the writer to develop and determine the quality of his or her work.

It also takes a significant amount of investment, too. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it. Self publishing works for me, but I have many writing friends dedicated to mainstream publishing. Different strokes for different folks. My hope is to be on the same level of Mr. Stateham one day. Royalties to supplement my retirement!

Try booklocker.com. It'll be a tight fit at that price for artwork and all...but it's possible.

I'm far from being out of touch with the self publishing realm. I've been down that route many times and most are willing to publish crap as long as you have the money to pay them for their services. I'm not saying anyone here writes crap, I'm sure that all of your books are wonderful. I just cannot afford the prices most of them stated to me to publish my books. If anyone knows of a really good self publishing service that offers a really nice front cover let me know. No offense meant to anyone here. Anything over $500 is to steep for me.
