51 Ways to Blog as a Novelist

We all know that blogging is one of the best ways to get attention in today's Internet world. A blog is a godsend to your website, bringing it traffic, fans, and more. But you have to post regularly.

Stuck for what to blog about? Here are some tips for novelists, but the same tips can apply to writers of nonfiction, memoirs, children's books, business books, and more.

  1. Review other novels, especially from other lesser-known novelists.
  2. Write a blog post using the voice of one of your main characters.
  3. Have that main character tell some side stories not included in the novel.
  4. Write about the setting - time and/or place. Use some of the research you did to ensure that your novel was accurate.
  5. Invite your readers to review your book. Feature their testimonials on your blog.
  6. Interview some of your readers: via Q&A text or via an Internet radio show or via a teleseminar.
  7. Podcast your book, one section at a time.
  8. Write about trends in your genre.
  9. Write about your favorite novelists, especially those that write in your genre. Include their photos and a sampling of their books.

When Angels Lie is now published by Mythica as an Ebook. This is more than a Romance. The story is set in the Anglican Church undergoing massive change, much of it controversial. There is no other book like it.
"Gladys Hobson weaves all the elements together masterfully, leaving the reader with a sense of wonder and awe."

Over a week ago I reported Awakening Love was creeping up Mobipocket's bestsellers list for Stonehedge Publixhing. Now it has reached number one!
It is the current Mobipocket Bestseller for Stonehedge Publishing. And yet it still has not a reader review posted there! Of course, one or two would be welcome but it shows I have been wrong about the dire need for them to sell the book! Two reader reviews are on the Powell's Books site but I have no idea yet how sales are going there. (or elsewhere).

I would like to hear of the sales experiences of others.

Authors:
I'm looking for Authors of ebooks (and books in other formats) of the following subjects: New Age, spiritual, ecological, psychology, medicine, world topics, gardening, sustainable living, how to-s, alternative, and the like to list and sell on my site. This makes for a good way to market your books. My site is about these things, I do artwork so I'd like matching books.
www.jilljj.com is my home page, I will send you links to other pertinent pages and documents and details upon contacting me by email.
This is no risk for authors as I am not charging a fee to list you on my site, just a percentage when your book sells. The more authors and books, the more the more of you network and promote, the more easily search engines will find you, and the more books will sell.....................I worked as a cost estimator for a while at a publishing company, so I know the publishers probably offer crumbs. I offer authors a quadruple that percentage in return for pointing to my site.........so jump in and contact me if you are an author of above. I will not reply to authors of subjects outside of the above area though.

I was wondering why Thalia Leigh was banned? Does anyone know? I've read some of her work. She's a very talented writer. I know she writes erotica, but I was curious why she got banned.

I am pleased to say that Awakening Love is creeping up nicely on Mobipocket's Stonehedge Publishing best sellers list. And it hasn't even a reader review/star rating there. (But has a couple of good ones on Powell's Books web site.) I find this sort of thing very interesting and would like to know what is getting the sales moving. A lot of people visit my publishing site where free chapters are — is that it? Or the result of its top ten position in the Romance section of the Predators and Editors Readers' Poll? Intriguing! What do other authors find as regards helping Ebook sales? (I am aware about printed books) Or do they just happen?
