The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

So my book, WEALTH VIRTUES has a publication date of 10 August, but actually became available to the world via the Internet around 30 August.

I have, for the last year, created a pretty wide internet presence based on the book; wealth, debt, and Benjamin Franklin's Thirteen Virtues. In fact if you type the words 'Wealth Virtues' into Google, or any search engine, I pretty well dominate the first page and many beyond. So what? Have I sold any books yet? What the heck is the marketing plan? Well, part of the plan was executed via this World Wide Web domination plan thingy. Part two was a big local press release, and part three will happen next week with a major press release to include the Associated Press, Entrepreneur mag, another coating on the Internet...but will I sell any books? Sure - some family and friends bought some either for sympathy, to see if I mentioned them in any way, or just to see if I actually know how to write.

This is only the beginning 10% of my marketing plan. Forty percent I have laid out for myself to be executed soon, and the remaining 50%...well, I guess I'll have to make that up as I go along - call it opportunity, guerilla marketing, or whatever.

Heck, the book is about Wealth and Virtue - two things many seem to be decidedly lacking but deperately want. Really it is about the use of virtuous behavior to attain wealth - a wealth defined in very achievable terms regardless of age, income, hairstyle, etc. Is this moment in time a great envireonment to talk about wealth or what? Oh wait, you're out of work and would prefer to buy food. OK - this book selling about wealth may take a bit longer.

So let's see how my mass market press release will go this week. I still use my own free tools including BiblioScribe.com (please feel free to use it as well), and look forward to being on Oprah sometime before her show ends...probably in the audience waiting for my new free car.

I'll keep you posted.

Jim Ward, Author (finally) of WEALTH VIRTUES, and creator of BiblioScribe.com

Oh yea - to be part of my experiment, please feel free to buy my book by selecting your favorite book boutique at http://www.wealthvirtues.com/. (OK that was pretty gratuitous)

OK...the local press release sent to some local, and for the most part, respectable print media outlets paid off. No the Washington Times didn't call yet, BUT...

In the original post above, I mentioned that I sent out via email, a fairly well constructed, and somewhat articulate press release to include many Maryland and Washington DC publications. I did get a call from a reporter from the local Southern Maryland newspaper consortium who would like to visit, take a few pictures, ask a few questions, then receive a weel deserved free press copy of WEALTH VIRTUES. I am very much looking forward to this. I think Tom Clancy still lives up the road - maybe he has a few pointers. I;ll keep you posted.
I received calls yesterday from two Florida-based marketing companies where one is offering ten 75 second product spots on the ION network, and the other with a 5-7 minute interview on the Lifetime network. Both are at a production cost of $4900.00. So now I am debating to layout $4900.00 additional dollars on a show. The upside is that either program could potentially generate thousands of sales, and quite possibly enought to cover the production costs as well as the travel costs to Florida. The downside is that it won't. Have Any other authors had good success with this marketing venue? The home based business can cover the costs, I just want to know if anyone has had good sales results. I am seariously focused on the upside and willing to take the risk.

Better yet, the response was due to the PRWeb Press release, and the nature of the book's topic (aquiring wealth and control over finances) as something that could be sold by an entertainment packaging and production company to a larger network. This is encouraging.

I'll keep you posted

The local newspaper interview for the book Wealth Virtues went very well. The book was dedicated to my wife who also sat in on the first five minutes of the interview to show the "woman behind the man", though I did my best to provide the real story of "the woman who led the man". I also will be appearing on "The Balancing Act" on the Lifetime Network probably early 2011, though shooting will happen in October or November. I believe that the cost is worth it considering the reusability of the video after the show using viral networking. Meanwhile, people in California are "friending" me on Facebook after reading Wealth Virtues. Good positive signs along with their very positive comments.

The Lesson: Marketing is like investing - you have to be diverse, but willing to take some risk

Well - were going to find out soon how well my appearance on The Balancing Act on the Lifetime Network can prompt folks to be concerned enough about their financial future to buy Wealth Virtues.  The staff and host at O2Media were great, and the host, Danielle Knox was absolutely terrific. She is the type of host who read the book, then called to discuss well before shooting the segment.

The show airs on Lifetime Television on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 7:00am (ET/PT) and 6:00 am (CT).  be sue to tune in.

You can also see previews of my appearance at http://www.WealthVirtues.com.  Everyone said my performance was "organic." I don't know if that means "natural", or if they though I was full of fertelizer.  I am claiming the former!

I believe the trip down to Florida from the DC area and the production costs were well worth it from a book marketing prespective.  Once aired, I also will receive a copy of the segment to further market the book on other venues to include blogs, and video perss releases. PRWeb offers different press release packages to include embedded video releases.

Congratulations on the above. With regards to press releases, there are various press release organizations that can be used and offer free services. One thing that I would suggest is that authors have their press releases professionally written and submitted rather than writing and submitting a press release as a author. Another way to accomplish the same is to have a professional reviewer review the book, adapt the book review and release it as a press release.
