Yeah, yeah, there's new tech parameters and a paradigm shift and all that.

But the important thing is that there are (and always have been) alternatives to writing something then trying to sell the rights to a publishing company. This group is to explore these areas of self-owned publishing biz.

Some writers have niche books, some have special needs (like texts for their seminars), some are just too entrepreneurial to sell of their own inspirations. And some just want to see something in print.

There is a spectrum these days, from big publishers through the new, small POD publishers, to using publishing services like or iuniverse, to printing yourself and selling online, to release of downloadable mp3 "podcasts" or pdf manuals.

If you have expertise, experience, or questions in this area, don't be shy about posting them here. It's a rapidly expanding field and nobody knows everything about it, but lots of us are learning enough to do what we want to do and successfully get it across the counter.

Hello everyone! It's good to see some great comments regarding iUniverse. I am publishing my first book, Afterthoughts, now through them. It's due to be released in September, so far I have been very impressed. If you would like to know more, please visit my website at I am looking forward to getting to know you all as well. Congratulations to everyone on the board on your accomplishments so far. Just to get to the point of being able to publish is a great accomplishment. To believe enough in yourself, yet another. Kuddos to everyone and good luck.

Hello all,

I'm with Lynda, what is a widget? Is there anyone out there that can answer this question for us?

As for converting a book to an e-book, amazon does it and calls it a kindle book. Not sure if that is the same thing, but apparently you can do it online.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and am looking forward to having a community with which to discuss self publishing. I recently published my first novel, The Pastor's Inferno, and need some help getting focused in my marketing efforts. I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with you.

I have self published 3 p-books and am currently trying to convert them into e-books.
Any suggestions from the most secure software out there from those who have gone the e-book route?

Hello to everyone. I want to invite you to my debut official author site I am happy to join this group and eager to learn about your self-publishing promotional ideas that were most successful for you. My book will be published this summer (June, 2008). I need help with finding Book Reviewers who will review self-published books.

Lorraine, I'm sure you must have some 'tips' for 1st time authors. Congrats on being considered for a movie!

Hi, I'm new to this group and I'm interested in what everyone has to say, especially since I have six books printed by several different POD's. So far, my experience has been wonderful and my books are selling. I also have one book that is being shopped by a major movie studio to make it into a big screen movie.

I wanted to say hello to everyone and extend a welcome to visit We are a new publishing company, seeking nothing ever from the author except their hard work and a solid, personal relationship that could lead us both into more prosperity in the future of the writing world.

We handle everything, so let us know your thoughts or be able to answer your questions???

Nancy, is it a sequel?

Thanks for the invite. I self published my first book. I found an editor and someone to do the cover through Ecademy. The editor recommended someone to do layout and a friend recommmended a printer. That just left me all the co-ordination to do, plus ISBN numbers etc. It was all pretty stressful, but having done it once doing it again would be pretty easy. However, I still have to sell enough copies to justify a second book. That seems to be the tricky bit.
