BEING YOUR OWN PUBLISHER
Yeah, yeah, there's new tech parameters and a paradigm shift and all that.
But the important thing is that there are (and always have been) alternatives to writing something then trying to sell the rights to a publishing company. This group is to explore these areas of self-owned publishing biz.
Some writers have niche books, some have special needs (like texts for their seminars), some are just too entrepreneurial to sell of their own inspirations. And some just want to see something in print.
There is a spectrum these days, from big publishers through the new, small POD publishers, to using publishing services like lulu.com or iuniverse, to printing yourself and selling online, to release of downloadable mp3 "podcasts" or pdf manuals.
If you have expertise, experience, or questions in this area, don't be shy about posting them here. It's a rapidly expanding field and nobody knows everything about it, but lots of us are learning enough to do what we want to do and successfully get it across the counter.

It is nice to see so many authors joining here:) I am trying to post on here. Lately I have been posting information that can help authors increase their sales on Authors Den. Also, I have created an amazon store. If you would like for me to add your book. I am happy to. It needs to be available on Amazon. Yes, your Amazon blog posts do show up on search engines. Do a search for your blog post titles (use quotation marks for better accuracy) on Google, Yahoo!, and Live Search and you'll find them.

I have a blog on Amazon, but I have no idea about its impact. Does anyone here know whether Amazon blogs show up on search engines? If not, that's a problem, for if both an author and a book are unknown, I wonder how readers will find their Amazon blog.

Thanks, Malcolm. I keep plugging along. I'm getting ready to start blogging on amazon. I have three other blogs that focus on different topics, but someone told me that blogging on amazon is an essential promotional tool. I'd love to hear the thoughts of others on this.

Hi Malcolm, Baker & Taylor and amazon are user friendly, so I've listed with them. Amazon also decided to list Fatal Encryption on amazon.co.uk and amazon.ca as well, which is great except that they don't carry the reviews over, so you have to relist them yourself. I haven't attempted B&N, and as a Canadian author writing a Canadian book, I'm not sure I will. I didn't try Ingram with Fatal Encryption, but I did a few years back with Taxed to Death. There was some glitch as I recall, but honestly, I haven't checked this out lately either. My colleagues and I are facing obstacles with attempts to list our books on the Chapters chain up here -- even their online store apparently insists that we have a distributor which isn't cost effective for me. If any self-published author, who doesn't have a distributor, has had success listing their books on Chapters or Indigo.ca, please let me know!
