Growing up poor in the small town of Vicksburg, Miss., Alexander Devereux didn't have much. But there was no lack of remarkable personalities, each of whom left an indelible imprint on his life. Gar Fish & Long Gravy collects the stories, insight, tragedies, and uproarious wit of an unforgettable cast of characters. Meet Granmama Lia', whose hard-won wisdom on life, love--and mistresses--is dispensed to in her kitchen to her beloved grandson, sometimes over Johnny Walker Black. There's Ms. Peaches, who raises chickens in her ramshackle hut yet might be one of the richest people in town. Big Daddy is an imposing hulk, but his massive frame hides a vulnerable past and humiliating secret. Ms. Annie Laurie is a fabulously wealthy white woman who never had children of her own. But her love rains down on young Alexander. And that's just for starters.

Based on real-life experiences, Gar Fish & Long Gravy is about the mistakes we make, the loves we share, and the stories we tell each other that make us who we are. And it is the touching story of a boy who ultimately breaks free of the poverty and abuse of his extended family, yet never forgets the important lessons he learned along the way. As Grandmama said, "If sense were common, everybody would have it."

Hello;
Book Description: How can we have less pain and suffering in our lives? Is it by avoiding or by embracing our feelings?

My book "Emotional Health: The Secret for Freedom from Drama, Trauma, & Pain" is an owners manual describing practical methods to release your physical and emotional chronic pain, suffering, and emotional distress.

This book shows you how to embrace your feelings rather than continually avoiding them. This skill once mastered brings us relief from suffering, for in-stance feeling empowered rather than victimized.

The book shows you how to become more aware of your critical, negative self-talk and how to change it to have more success and happiness rather than having your unconscious sabotage you.

This book shows you how get in touch with your wounded inner child and begin healing that emotional part of you that in the past ran your life with repeating patterns of drama and trauma.

This book shows you how to recognize your codependent patterns in abusive relationships and how to begin recovery by becoming aware of your needs and feelings and expressing them and also by practicing setting healthy personal boundaries.

Finally, this book shows you how to recognize your unconscious shadow the parts of ourselves which we dislike which healed reveal new strengths and creative abilities.

Other books in my genre of health/mind/body explore one area of improving awareness and releasing pain and suffering to improve your physical/emotional health. I, however, give you five areas with stories, techniques, and tips for greater happiness and success.

The Secret for Freedom from Drama, Trauma, & Pain takes you on a journey through the lives of over twelve people who have endured years of physical and emotional suffering. They describe how to release trapped emotions such as anger, depression, and grief from the physical body, as well as chronic physical pain. People also describe healing deep-seated wounds from sexual and mental abuse, as they encounter a growing empowerment for the first time in their lives.

Through reading and using the methods in this book your emotional health will improve, you will gain greater awareness of your emotions and how they affect your thoughts and behaviors. You will learn more about your strengths, as well as your weaknesses and how to turn them into strengths. You will increase your levels of self-esteem and confidence.

You will gain skill in taking charge and managing your emotions in healthier ways. Most important, you will have greater choices to be proactive rather than reactive as you did in the past and suffered at the mercy of emotional dramas. In addition, you gain the ability, as well as understanding to express your feelings and needs easier. You will also have and maintain healthier relationships with better communication, work with less conflict with others, and manage your own conflicts easier.

My purpose is to inspire you to heal and increase your self-awareness and happiness. If you see or feel that this book could benefit people I would appreciate your vote and support.

Dear Author,

The 2010 Chicago Tribune Printer's Row Literary Festival is only eight days away. We have space available for our members. Here is an opportunity to sign and sell your book to more than eighty thousand eager and enthusiastic book lovers and buyers from around the country.

The Author Collective is here for you, the self-published and under-represented book writer. We go to the trade-shows and showcase your product to the people who love to buy books. Self-Publishing...

Here is the truth, the vanity publishing houses charge astronomical rates for their services. A two hundred page book shouldn't cost the author $12.00 to get printed. It also shouldn't sell for $19.95. These companies are building their sale forces and charging their unknowing and unwitting staff members (you the author/customer) to work for them. They promise you that they will place your book in stores and they don't. They also tell you that you are privileged to purchase your own creative license for more than it should retail for, and they ask you to be happy with this arrangement. Well, if you are happy with not making a profit than this is the route to take.

Why as an author would you be so willing to take a forty percent discount from an over-inflated retail price when the bookstores will ask you to give them a fifty percent discount? You can't make money with this formula. A two hundred page novel should cost around $2.95 per copy or less and The Author Collective has helped our members routinely get these kinds of prices.

Many authors get a euphoric sense of pride as they are being taken advantage of by these companies. Ask yourself this question... Does a magazine like Newsweek, Elle, Vanity Fair or Home & Garden, with an average of two hundred full color pages cost its published $9.00 per copy? Of course not! Ask yourself another question... How many wise consumers would buy a 24 page full color comic book for $19.95? Question 3. When is the last time you paid more than $2.00 for a comic book?

Why is it that we are so enthralled with the concept of getting our work published that we cannot see the obvious? People, comic books don't cost twenty dollars! Novels shouldn't cost twenty dollars either. Lower your cost of producing and you can lower the retail cost of your book. This ultimately translates into more sales.

Don't be a SALES PERSON for the vanity publishing companies by purchasing their inflated jobbed-out printing services. Be your own business person and let us help you get your book produced at a cost of between eighty cents and three dollars per copy. THAT'S RIGHT I said eighty cents per copy. Once we help you get this no cost information we will then go to work and sale your book for you. We make money on selling your book which means that you get more sales and "Guess What" you make more money as well.

We attend about forty expos, conventions, tradeshows and conferences to sell books to the retail trade. Our members can attend at no additional cost to help promote their works. Up next week is the Houston Texas National Book festival and then the Book Expo America in New York City. Care to join us?

Take a look at our website and call me with any questions you may have.

My new book, The Great X-Cape offers unique spiritual advice about trusting God in every situation that we face. Through some of the most impossible situations imaginable, I found my calling in life as a writer of Christian and inspirational literature, and I learned that nothing is impossible with God. Faith is a powerful thing that can move any mountain that gets in our way! Nothing is impossible with God!
