Hey Hank, and congratulations on your work. I'm Terry from Chicago, a first time self published author using this site to network, and find out what others are doing to get their work exposed. My book is "Comlok, Eye of the keeper" check out my web page for a brief description. I've sold over 2,000 copies to date. Hope things are going well with your efforts!
Thanks for the complement, and to your question, I utilized contact data bases that I received from friends who would send me blanket e-mails. I would respond to everyone on the list telling them about my book, I realized a penetration rate of 5-10%. Some of the contact list contained over 3000 e-mail addresses, and all I had to do was to send out one blanket e-mail, its proved to be a very effective, and inexpensive marketing tool.
re: space quest games (there were 6 of them in all) - I think they inspired some of the characters in Futurama. They certainly were ahead of their time - I only suggest this because the games may inspire you for your next book. :-)
