This ship is a leftover from WWI. Her hull is made of steel cable and concrete, instead of steel plates. She was one 14 experimental concrete vessels due to metal shortages. She was brought to Seacliff State Park near Santa Cruz. The moment I got to see it in person I fell in love with the idea of using it as part of a story. It appears in my 2nd novel "The Ship" and plays a large part in the story. Which just goes to show how exploring your own setting where you live, can lead to great story ideas.
