In a New England seaside town, 17-year-old Lisa Duncan has an assignment to tour a historic site and write a report about it. She chooses Mirabelle Manor, a 19th-century estate built by a sea captain for his wife. This appeals to Lisa because her brother is currently sailing across the Atlantic aboard a restored clipper. When news arrives that he is lost at sea, Lisa's interest in the manor changes from casual to one of determination in hopes of learning what happened to him.
