We considered the POD route, but decided that for the amount we needed printed, self publishing was going to make more sense, money-wise. What he's writing is basically a textbook - and it'll be the only one of its kind out there for powered parachutes. So, we need the hard-cover, lots of color pictures, kind of book. A lot of help was a book by Peter Bowerman on self-publishing.
Roy's been talking about writing this book since before I met him, which has been 5.5 years ago now. And he's been actually writing it since the season ended last year (late fall). He wound up waiting due to changes the FAA was making in the rules. I'll be so glad when he gets it done & proofed & off to the printer!
Right now our dilemma (besides getting the book finished) is deciding on how to get it printed - we'd like to keep the printing in the US, but the cost is so much higher than from India or China. Did you have that issue, & if so, how did you make your decision? It's a tough one!

Hello Easy Flight,
I totally understand how you feel. I am new to all this social networking and wasn't sure what to expect. My feeling is that we need to do both--share information about ourselves and our books/services/etc. (which is self-promotion) and discuss our trials, tribulations and of course, successes.
I would love to hear how others struggled with writing and overcame whatever to succeed. It took me 10 years to complete my memoir and now it's out there. What have your writing experiences taught you?
My biggest lesson is that this is what I'm supposed to be doing, even if I don't make much money at it. How's that for a concept!

i would suggest not going the self published route. P.O D. is the best value if you do not have a publisher. We can talk tomorrow.

My personal email is christian@christianschaal.com

I will be happy to help you in anyway i can.

Have a good evening.

But, if you need help with something, just ask.

Tell you what...and this is not selfpromotion..I do not need to do that. Go to my website... www.christianschaal.com , look at what is there, and then decide if I am the one to offer you some help. You may use the email link on my contact page to to ask for what you need. If I am able, I will help you. I hear you passion, and I am assuming Roy is either your husband, or an very intimate relationship in some way. I am more than heppy to be supportive.

Thanks! We'll be putting up a picture soon.
Any advice on choosing a printer would be welcome - also marketing. We've got a pretty good plan, but you can't do too much when it comes to publicity. What we need to do is get the word out while it's still being written, so that by the time we print it, people will know it's there. We've got a start on that, with Roy's radio show, but more would be great!
