Something About Me and My Book:
Well, I have over a dozen books, but the latest release is the second edition of "Irma Quarterdeck Reports" reissued by Far Horizons publishing company. It's a collection of funny anecdotes about Ralph Quarterdeck and his wife Irma who gets her husband out of mishaps aboard their sailboat. It's a feminist book intended to empower women boaters, too often relegatred to cook and first mate when they are the real brains of the outfit. Far Horizons sells it for $19.95 in bookstores. My other books are in both ebookk and POD formats, but I have recorded most for the blind and offer themn as audiobooks. A couple are at audible.com.

Royalties anyone?

It's been a couple of years since I signed that contract with the publisher of Irma Quarterdeck and I am yet to see a penny of royalties, not even a report of no sales.SO much for all that hard work in revising for the second edition. At least the first publisher paid a nice advance that financed a trip to Florida. The new publisher payments wouldn't buy a local bus ticket downtown.

I now have 19 books still in print and frankly I do best with www.lulu.com the on line printer. No middle man, no vendors, just me and my printer, and no bookstores. tra la.

I sincerely appreciate your comments. I have done a little revision on Chapter one, namely deleting the Prologue and addint the bit about the town's legend into Chapter 1 itself.

I didn't have any trouble getting onto my site - just takes too long, really, but it did open up. Somewhere I read about a free place to set up a website but I have misplaced the info. Being free, it may or may not be worth the effort.

Writring a book is easy, selling it is tough. I sometimes get discouraged, for the only way I can make anything at this is to direct readers to buy books from the publishers, not from me. That kind of process demands some effort on the part of the reader, though it is quicker and easier to go on line from home or office and place an order than it does to get to a bookstore, browse for a book, find it, and make the purchase. But browsing in bookstores, like searching library stakcs, is an adventure in itself. You can read about my stuff at www.hu.mtu.edu/~hlsachs
