Something About Me and My Book:
Native New Yorker, Poet, Author, Novelist. While primarily I'm a poet which work that's appeared in numerous publications, I've also two books in print. They are...

"Manhood The Longest Moan,"

This is a tale of youthful ambition, of four cats on a mission to be nothing less than stars. Ty is a writer who pines for nothing more than the lyrics of Real Love. David is a mad talented dancer who spends to many nights performing his dance with lust. Browny is a black and bruised singer who yearns for the kiss of celebrity. Face is an actor whose role it is to emote the biggest of lies. Together, in the mean and rhythmic streets of New York City , they seek their fame, fortune and prize. Some want to know of love's ultimate sigh, and some find the rainbow. All find unexpected surprises in a story about dreams, lust, and the meaning friendship, the test of disease, and the definition of trust.

In a twenty year span, who among them is destined for true greatness?

From the Publisher
"Ross delivers a story that is sharp, juicy, wicked, and unapologetically brazen." -- James Earl Hardy, author of the bestselling B-Boy Blues series

"Manhood: The Longest Moan pulses with extraordinary rhythm and seethes with unrelenting passion and pain. Mr. Ross has poetically penned the perfect novel!" --Lee Hayes, Bestselling author of Passion Marks & A Deeper Blue

"The Moanin' After":

This is a story of David Richmond, a lost dancer struggling to reclaim his equilibrium after his core rhythm has been taken away by loneliness, disease and the death of his best friend. It is a look at his journey from promiscuous party animal to a sober, mentally stable adult by way of analysis.

This is also a deep, wistful, brave and harrowing account of a handful of New Yorkers: Bliss Santana, a beautiful actress and single mother, living with HIV, Faison "Browny" Brown, a failed singer determined to grab that brass ring at any cost... and finally there is Kindred. Is he the personification of a pure and untouched soul, or is he just a figment of David's imagination?

The Moanin' After is a tale about ghosts and intrigue, hope, greed, ambition, and mystery. Most of all, it is an unapologetic look at urban life, its joys and pitfalls, where secrets are revealed and love is tested to see if it is indeed as David Richmond proclaims, "a verb!" THE MOANIN' AFTER is all this, and so much more.

Both novels are published by Q-Boro/Urban Books.

How To Succeed In Writing When Spike Lee Doesn't Call

In the last few years, I’ve found myself answering this one question countless times:

“So, how do I get published?”

Seriously, without exaggeration, I must have answered this same question for 6 or 7 hungry-starving-struggling-artist-writer-poet-type people just within the last week. In each instance, I’d take time out of a busy day to explain it, in detail. Then, it finally dawned on me that maybe I needed write it all down, save it, and simply go back to the file… Continue

Minds . . .

Small minds talk about people
Average minds discuss places and things
Exceptional minds speak of ideas
. . . but dreamers determine the course of mankind !

awesome is but a word

Photobucket

awesome is but a word
but i will use it anyway
to describe your friendship
is all that i can say

you read my soul and lift me up
my offerings from my heart
my sacred place where i kept you
from the very start

for friendships are the magic
friendships are the smiles
friendships do endure
no matter the many miles

so i thank you for your kindness
and i give this word to you
my Brotha you’re simply awesome
and i’m blessed that i met you

My Brotha . . .

perhaps . . .

by slight of pen
or slight of mind
our spirits seek
what they seek to find

an errant thought
oft’ uncovers treasure
that perhaps begets
another’s pleasure

so . . .

put the pen to pad
and let your soul ramble
iambic or not
‘tis the Father’s preamble

for between the lines
and the quiet spoken
there is a magic
that heals the broken

for it may be in you
i hope it is me
for i await the word
to teach me to “BE”

. . . . perhaps!
