Meet Author Mark Glamack Of The Award Winning “Young Adult” Novel “Littluns: And The Book of Darkness.”

Café Spotlight Interview With Author Mark Glamack

Mark Glamack is an animator, businessman, director, producer, writer, and patented inventor. He has worked in every area of the animation industry. Over the last twelve years he has created, written, and developed two motion picture projects and a television series. Also, he invented (Scoreguide) which doubles as a marketing tool that brings commerce to the golfer and the golfer to commerce. It also provides low cost advertising for the Dot-Com market.

Currently Mark is the creator, author, and Illustrator of the novel "Littluns, and The Book Of Darkness” the "Mom's Choice Awards" Gold, winner for 2009, and the "Dove Award" winner for 2010.

From 2000 to 2003, Glamack dedicated full time developing a new means for reversing runaway productions. This new process and invention blends a far-reaching business model with the technology that supports it. When implemented, it will reduce production costs from between one-quarter to one-half or less the costs anywhere in the world. Instead of a company sub-contracting their work overseas, they will be able to contract to a U.S. studio across town. Also, in the not too distant future Internet companies will need low cost, high quality content if they ever hope to compete in a global marketplace.

From his early beginnings at Walt Disney Productions, Glamack experienced a level of quality unprecedented in the industry and the attention to details needed to achieve it. He also worked on the animated classic "The Jungle Book" and animated many of the special effects for the combination live-action/animation "Bed-Knobs and Broomsticks." He also worked on the EPCOT promotional film, animation inserts for "The Wonderful World of Disney," and "The Story of Walt Disney," a Disneyland attraction.

Drafted out of Disney to serve in the Viet Nam War, Glamack spent a year as a medic with the First Air Cavalry Division based thirty miles from the DMZ. Glamack also photographed and directed an ambitious documentary entitled "Is Freedom Just a Word?" He was awarded the Bronze Star. Back home in the United States, Glamack continued his career working on countless projects for Hanna-Barbera, Filmation Associates, Film Roman, HBO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and others. Some of the titles he has animated, directed or produced are: "All Dogs Go To Heaven", "Life with Louie", "He-Man and Shera-Princess of Power", "Oliver Twist" "Bobby's World", "Zazoo - U", "Spawn", "Yogi Bear", "Scooby-Do", "Tom & Jerry", "Dyno-Mutt", "Future Flipper", "G.I. Joe", "A Flintstone Christmas", "Last of the Curlews", the animated inserts for "That's Entertainment II", and many more. Also, the direct to video projects; "Gen 13", "Christmas Classics", "Tom Sawyer", "All Dogs Christmas", and "All Dogs Go To Heaven", In 1999 he was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Special Class-Animated Program for "Life with Louie".

In 2002, Glamack completed his sixth term as Governor for The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. During those years he created the Over One Hour Program Category for animation and the first annual individual achievement awards' categories (Emmy's) for Animators / Background Artists / Background Stylists / Layout Artists / Production Designers / Storyboard Artists / and Voice Over talents. In 1996, he successfully brought the daytime Emmy awards structure for animation consistent with primetime. Appointed by the President as Vice-Chair for the ATAS Activities Committee 1991 - 1992, and later served on the Budget, Awards, and Membership Committees.

Born and raised in Rochester, New York, Glamack attended Art Center College of Design, UCLA, PCC, Sherwood Oaks Experimental College and various animation courses.

Mark Glamack's philosophy includes the belief that future business successes in the entertainment industries will depend largely upon our abilities to compete on a global level through competitive production costs. "Also, we need to positively motivate, educate, enlighten, and inspire through entertaining content with more positive celebration to the human spirit."

Interview:

What makes you proud to be a writer from Los Angeles? With God as my guide and strength, I did what He asked me to do.

What or who inspired you to become a writer? I never really aspired or even wanted to be a writer. I thought that there were far more qualified than I to make a career out of writing. Oh, I have written screenplays and other works, but not in a million years would I have considered becoming an author. And besides, with all that I was already doing, there just wasn't enough time to add any more to my plate....and then God said to me "Write "Littluns." This experience of pure love has changed my life. With many years of fulltime work "Littluns" is now completed in His honor.

When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published? God only said, "Write "Littluns"" but nothing about publishing or marketing. "Littluns" is published and being marketed, but it occurred to me later that He never said anything about publishing or marketing. The point I'm making is what He wants, I want, and would have it no other way.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage? Writing came later in my life with the realization that if I wanted it right I better do it myself.

Do you come up with your title before or after you write the manuscript? The title usually comes through the entire process. Almost immediately I come up with a working title. Usually the title for my screenplays comes quickly as was the case through God for my novel "Littluns." But, "Littluns" developed into possible sequels and my sub-title became an issue because of its dark implications. A difficult choice to make, but after doing so we won the "Mom's Choice Awards" Gold in two categories, and the "Dove Award" which represents the best in family values and entertainment.

Please introduce your genre and why you prefer to write in that genre? Fantasy and Science Fiction provide a means to use my imagination under God.

What was your inspiration, spark or light bulb moment that inspired you to write the book that you are seeking promotion for? While in the process of funding any one or all of my six developed projects, God came to me and said, "Write Littluns." "Of all people, why me," I asked myself. I had never aspired to become an author and never in a million years would I have ever considered becoming one. Although I have written scripts and other works, I always believed that there were far better qualified people to write a book than I. Also, those six projects that mean a lot to me took over a decade to develop and doing anything else just didn't make any sense - at least not to me. But, God was asking me to do this. Never before had I had such an experience of pure love and needless to say, I shelved all those other project and have worked on "Littluns" full-time ever since.

What has been your most rewarding experience with your writing process? As I began writing my novel, I wanted to give readers a very different reading experience, something that never existed before on multiple levels. After being published, I'm humbled by all the great awards and reviews "Littluns" has received. Although our marketing efforts have a lot to be desired and we remain mostly obscured from view, I'm confident that it's only a matter of time when people will discover "Littluns".

Have you had a negative experience in your writing career? If so please explain how it could have been avoided? Spiritual warfare with evil constantly trying to stop me has been and continues to be the most negative of experiences. Trusting in God is the only answer. It took three years (Full time) to write and create all the 63 color illustrations in the book; then publishing and have been marketing-to-sales ever since. To date "Littluns" has been mostly ignored with cold shoulders by just about everyone who hasn't read the book.

What has been your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey? My most rewarding experience has been readers' responses and reviews which you can read at http://www.littlunsblog.com

Have you had a negative experience in your publishing journey? If so please explain how it could have been avoided? The most negative experience is not being able to find and connect with readers. That will change when God is ready to make it so.

What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors? Follow your bliss, believe in yourself, and never ever give up. Most importantly, realize that with God anything is possible.

Who is your favorite author and why? God! He gave us the Bible so that we could live the best life possible.

Is there anything else that you would like to share with us? That God was with me through every grueling negative deterrent that tried relentlessly to stop me from writing "Littluns." With all the great awards won and reviews received, that I couldn't have paid for, I was completely at a loss to understand how there could be so few sales, except for not having any marketing and advertising budget. More importantly, God said "Write "Littluns." He didn't say publish, or market, or anything else, that in the world of man, would be the natural and logical next step - which I did. After He asked me to write "Littluns" I asked Him, "But Lord, you want me to do this when few can see the value in all my other good projects?" And He said to me, "Now you know how I feel." Well, the rest is now history.

That was then, with more miracles in my life than anyone would believe to enable me to continue with His work through me. Although the spiritual warfare I've experienced has tried to stop me at all cost from the beginning, I did what He asked me to do and all praise goes to God.

I thank God every day for all the gifts and abilities, and support He's given me and that He asked me, of all people, to write "Littluns." What's most exciting is the knowledge that whatever He had, and has in mind for "Littluns," it will be perfect, even if He only wanted me to write it for Him and/or those who need to hear what God is saying to a world gone wrong, and in contrast, the knowledge in faith that "...thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven," for all to experience now and forever.

Soon afterward the beast was released once again. To now complete his purpose while entering the realm of the living, along with the necessity of possessing the body of a human host, it becomes necessary for the Evil One to place most of his more dark powers into his newly created Book of Darkness because no living-being could possess those evil words and survive. A little about “Littluns”:

"Littluns" is about a choice we must all make in our lives for The Light or the darkness.

Littluns means “little people who live within.” From the very secret and hidden inner crater walls of Powder Mountain to their homes and businesses built into the environment and community of Hollow Hills, Littluns symbolize all that is good and true. Littluns measure about three feet in height, give or take a few inches, and are usually well rounded in appearance, due to their insatiable appetites and the many social events that provide good reasons for good eating. They have very large ears, three fingers and a thumb, and furry feet with thick soles, eliminating the need for socks and shoes.

Every Littlun is taught, from a very young age, that stealing is wrong and no Littlun would even consider such an act, and telling any lie would not even occur to them. It just wouldn’t be Littlun.

The end of days begins when five Littluns journey down from their secret mountaintop homeland on what should be a cautious, but pleasant ‘Scavenger Hunt’ outing.

…but nothing will ever be the same.

Imagine innocence of Light, the meek and good among us being unexpectedly consumed into a void of darkness.

Imagine a world gone wrong as darkness overwhelms the Light - offering little hope in a world gone wrong.

Imagine circumstances beyond your control from which your life will inexplicably never ever be the same.

Imagine being stripped of your identity with no past, present, or future while wandering misplaced with a tortured disability and terrifying existence, all within an empty space of nothingness.

What could you do - where would you go - how might you survive – can there be any hope in hopelessness? Imagine being in such a dark place and how you might find ANY truth, peace, love, hope, joy, enlightenment, and your heart’s desire in the face of such adversity?

“Littluns” becomes a personal journey and experience that can be found within the 411 pages of “Littluns AND THE BOOK OF DARKNESS” stirring every emotion. It is a place where one can find inspirational reason and fortitude to celebrate the hope and uncompromising determination of the human spirit.

And then there’s the matter of our ‘Breaking all the Rules’ on the road to publishing “Littluns.” But that’s another story.
