Something About Me and My Book:: It all began with a crazy, beautiful idea : to share songs from every country in the world, and to give people something to read, as well as to listen to. At that time I was running a music blog which had picked up over 3 million hits, but this was way more ambitious than anything I had done before. While continuing to work full-time as a civil servant in Liverpool I spent five years collecting songs, and researching and writing about 200 countries. My 4 volume book series Around the World in 575 Songs was published in Autumn 2018.

This is a guide to the music and cultural history of 200 countries, packed with fascinating stories about some of those musicians who've breathed new life into dying musical traditions. As a bonus, it comes with a website, where you're never more than a couple of clicks away from listening to music from any country in the world.

This is a project that's been five years in the making. I'm the author, I live near Liverpool, and this is my first publication. I collected traditionally based music from every country in the world - from countries large and small, from Kazakhstan to Kiribati - streamed the selected songs on a website, and wrote a book based around the songs chosen.

The book has now been published in four volumes (1 Europe, 2 Africa, 3 Asia & Oceania, 4 Americas). Each volume contains an introductory section, and then one chapter for each country.
The books are aimed at anyone with a passion for exploring other cultures. Chapter by chapter, I try to demonstrate that every country is special, and worthy of attention.
