Patricia Neely-Dorsey's Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia

Profile Information

Something About Me and My Book:
My name is Patricia Neely-Dorsey. I am from Tupelo,MS. I recently returned home, after living almost 20 yrs in Memphis,TN ,working in the mental health field. In February 2008, I published my first book of poetry entitled "Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia: a life in poems". There are so many negative connotations associated with Mississippi and the south in general. I want to show a flip side of the coin. There is much to love about this much maligned and misunderstood part of our country. Through childhood memories, personal thoughts and dreams I attempt to give a positive glimpse into the southern way of life.
I really want people to get to KNOW Mississippi in a different light and I want to introduce them.
My platform is basically Meeting Mississippi Through Poetry, Prose and The Written Word.
You can purchase the book at www.reeds.ms/books.asp

SOUTHERN LIFE
If you want a glimpse of southern life,
Come close and walk with me;
I'll tell you all the simple things,
That you are sure to see.
You'll see mockingbirds and bumblebees,
Magnolia blossoms and dogwood trees;
Caterpillars on the step,
Wooden porches cleanly swept;
Watermelons on the vine
Strong majestic Georgia pines;
Rocking chairs and front yard swings,
Junebugs flying on a string;
Turnip greens and hot cornbread,
Coleslaw and barbecue;
Fried okra, fried corn, fried green tomatoes,
Fried pies and pickles, too.
There's ice cold tea that's syrupy sweet,
And cool green grass beneath your feet;
Catfish nipping in the lake
And fresh young boys on the make.
You'll see all these things
And much, much more
In a way of life, that I adore

Happy Valentine’s Day! Live More, Laugh Much, Love Often!!!

"I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition."

Patricia, just thought you might want to know that you have a great 2-page write up in the latest issue of CBB Writer's Magazine (http:www.coldcoffee.ning.com/). It features Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia, along with your bio, photo and my review. It's a great article, if I do say so myself! You might want to pick up a few copies for family and friends. Hope you enjoy it!

Thank you. I am the author and the publisher so I threw it myself. It was actually the release party of my first book. I contacted our local restaurant "Japanese" and made arrangements with them. I belong to a Urban Professional Networking group and asked if they would donate a raffle gift, and some self published authors to donate autographed books. It was a nice time, I sent evites to people to cut down on the postage cost. The entire evening was inexpensive less than 200 dollars.
