Something About Me and My Book:
I would like to write an accessible book for readers on the neuroscience of addiction in which I would draw from my own experience of recovery and from five years academic research which has culminated in a PhD studentship which I am currently following. My book would explain how stress/emotional processing and regulation deficits appear to be at the heart of this "emotional disease" from pre-morbid vulnerability and increasingly via initial drug use through to compulsive addictive behaviours. It is maladaptive emotional responding that feeds this compulsive disorder. I have the research all ready to be written up. I also want to write about the neuroscience of recovery and how recovery "works" in terms of altering neuroplasticity in the brain, to show that recover is a reality and how it is achievable.

I have recently joined this site and checking out subject matters (primarily from authors in the UK).  Although I live in New Zealand that is where I was brought up.   Your book sounds very interesting - my own experiences in life have been fed by what I believe to be "compulsive disorders" of others.  Maybe not alcohol or drugs but psychological abuse comes into it.    Perhaps initially you would like to become a friend?
