Dark Obsessions” is a gritty, hard-edged crime/thriller...After being hired by a seductive Italian Countess to discreetly track down the missing daughter of a U.S. Senator, PI Nick Pompilio soon discovers that a seemingly simple missing persons case develops into something much more dangerous.
Imposed into ‘voluntary’ retirement for excessive violence, ex-cop turned private investigator, Nick Pompilio answers only to his own set of rules. After being hired by a seductive Italian Countess to discreetly track down the missing daughter of a U.S. Senator, a seemingly simple missing persons case develops into something much more dangerous. And when a mysterious blackmailer emerges with secrets buried in the Senator’s past, Nick’s talent, along with his loyalty is put to the test. As he becomes entangled within the case, Nick also finds himself contending with a dangerous assassin, a pair of ruthless bank robbers and a Mafia Kingpin (who just happens to be his own father)…each of whom are vying for one million dollars worth of ransom diamonds. Now, as Nick is obsessively determined to rescue the troubled young woman, he must confront the demons dredged up from his own dark past.
Excerpt:
Nick staggers into the club, looking a mess and holding his left arm. Heather spots him and hurries over to him.
“Nicky,” she says with concern. “What happened? Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’m okay,” he answers slowly. “Just a little trouble with a case I’m on.”
Nick looks abstractedly around the club for the Senator, but cannot seem to locate him.
“Did you happen to see the gentleman who was sitting at that table?” Nick asks her, pointing out the Senator’s empty table.
Heather shakes her head negatively. “Let’s ask Paul…he’s the Maitre d’…he knows everything that goes on here.”
Heather catches the attention of the Maitre d’ and beckons him over. He smiles kindly, as she introduces him to Nick.
“Paul,” Heather inquires. “Did you see the man sitting at that table, near the stage?”
Paul looks and nods yes. “You mean Senator Killington?”
“Yes, that’s right,” Nick says anxiously. “Did you happen to see where he went to?”
“He left a few minutes ago,” Paul informs them.
“He left the club?” Nick inquires. “Alone?”
“No, there was another gentleman with the Senator,” Paul answers. “He left the club with Mr. Andrioli.”
“Vincent Andrioli!” Nick says with surprise. “The mobster?”
“Well, I don’t really put those types of labels on people,” Paul states. “But…I do believe that we are talking about the same person.”
Nick stands mute, shaking his head in disbelief. Heather thanks Paul, who smiles servitorly and goes back about his business.
“Is everything alright, Nicky?”
“What the hell have I gotten myself into?” Nick mutters while scratching his fingers through his beard.
Heather puts her arm around him, in a tenderly caring manner. “Do you need something for that arm?”
“Tequila,” Nick says definitively, looking her squarely in the eyes.
