Something About Me and My Book:
My memoir, Breaking the Code-A Daughter's Journey, is based on my experience after my father gave me more than 400 pages of letters he wrote to his foks during WWII. The focus of the book is on the father-daughter relationship but it also has elements of interest to military buffs, such as Katakana code, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the loss of a comrade/friend and the guilt a survivor carries for the rest of their life.

The book is complete and I am now engrossed in the editing process. I am also almost finished with the proposal. I believe that if you want to do or be something, you must become a student of it. To that end, I am currently a student of the book publishing business. My most recent focus is building a platform and marketing.

I am also a freelance writer. I have a myspace page and a blog. Very happy to have found this site, and look forward to getting to know those in this community better.

Welcome to my page!

I'm glad you're here. If you want to know more about my book, visit my myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/karenlalaniz *. There you will find a site completely dedicated to my book, Breaking the Code-A Daughter's Journey. A photo slideshow of me and my father is displayed there as well as other information you may be interested in.

If you want to hear my voice as a writer (oh come on...you know you do) - go to my blog at http://karenlalaniz.blogspot.com * . On my blog, Write Now-Because it's Later than you Think, I post entries (like a journal) on a range of subjects, but it is always related (though sometimes quite loosely) to the fact that I am a writer. I am a sometimes quirky, often humerous (I am told), thoughtful and rarely serious person who sees a life lesson in every little thing that ordinary people walk-by, experience and step-over (or in) every day. I believe that we all have the potential to evolve and become the person we were born to be. It takes courage to become who you are, and I'm trying my darndest to be couragous.

Come and see what's going on in my life. Stop by and say hi. Mention that you came to my blog by way of the Book Marketing Network and I will send you a check for $100...OK...OK...that's not true. But I will love it if you visit me. And I will love it $100 worth...at least. And that feeling you get for making me so very happy is...well...PRICELESS! So pretty much, what you get for making me happy...is worth like billions of dollars. (ha!) And you're welcome by the way.

But seriously- Life is good. Pass it on!

Back from the conference, and a week at the beach and a miriad of other summer fun. And now I'm back to work-freelancing, book-writing, book editing, finding an agent...and on and on. Glad to be back to a schedule. I love autumn, don't you?

And btw, what a treasure to have those letters from your father. That is kinda how the idea for my book came about. I started it just writing it for my kids as a keepsake and more and more people got interested in it.

I generally write Bible study guides but I don't really see this as a "christian" book. However, the theme does arise in a few of the chapters since it is about the most important things I have learned, but I try extraordinarily hard not to be preachy in this book. I do that in other places.

Thanks Karen. Great question! If you scroll down you can actually read the entire rough draft.

The short answer is it is a book about the forty most important things I have learned in my forty years on planet Earth.

Thanks!

Sounds like a wonderful book. Glad to see you're preserving your father's place in history and the family side of that history right along with it.
