Dutch author Marcel Heerink earned his PhD from the University of Amsterdam, his thesis being based on a study of acceptance of social robots by older adults. He has since become an internationally renowned academic researcher specializing in using social robots in therapy and education for people with special needs, like children with autism, people with dementia and (long term) hospitalized children.

The Compassionate Guide is a book I wrote, inspired by the surprising experiences and insights I gained with my research on social robots for people with special needs. It explores philosophical and psychological concepts like intelligence, trust, consciousness, truth, emotions, compassion, friendship and especially suspension of disbelief.

What’s the point of being human?
How does one deal with elusive things like trust, fear, being in love, friendship, and a disastrous morning attitude?
How can anyone handle the truth if there are so many different views on it?

If you’re made to be of service to humans, you’ll be facing quite a few challenges, because humans are full of contradictions, they will usually be anything but rational, and horribly arrogant. But fortunately, they’re amazing at dressing things up, they can occasionally be truly compassionate, and they are gifted with a stunning ability called “suspension of disbelief.”

These things are crucial, and this guide will tell you why, by addressing the challenges and possibilities of social robots, with a tasty blend of science and fiction — featuring a romantic, Italian love story; an enigmatic entity called P.; and an endearing, philosophical robot.

Tell us a little about your book.

It’s inspired by the experiences and insights I gained with my research on social robots for people with special needs. The book is written from the robot’s perspective, which makes you realize how illogical we humans are, how difficult it can be to understand us. But also it makes you see how very special we can be.

Laptop or desktop for writing?

Definitely laptop. I can write anywhere. In restaurants, pubs, busses, trains… Lately, I missed a station, though.

What is a movie or TV show that you watched just recently and really enjoyed?

I kind of binge-watched The Good Place. I think it’s brilliant. It presents philosophical concepts and addresses ethical issues in a very appealing way. It almost makes ethical philosophy a sexy thing.

Where can your readers stalk you?

I think the best place is the Goodreads site. I just started a blog on it.

Do you give free ebooks away in exchange for honest reviews?

Yes, I do. In any format. Reviewers can always contact me.

Shannon E. Stewart, MSN, RN, GFNP, CCRN is a December 5th, 2018 graduate from South University’s Family Nurse Practitioner program with over seventeen and one half (17 ½) years of clinical experience in critical care settings as a critical care Registered Nurse and holds CCRN certification. Out of the 3,000,000+ Registered Nurses in the United States, only roughly 2%-3% hold this advanced elite certification, truly making her an authority and subject matter expert in critical care and healthcare in general.

Shannon is also an executive of 2MCH4YA Global Entertainment which houses a successful independent record label and publishing company that has collaborated with industry titans such as The Hype Magazine Editor-in-Chief Jerry Doby, multi-platinum record producer Andrew Lane, multi-platinum song writer and record producer Maurice “The General Starr”, platinum producer Will Baker, Hip Hop Pioneers Lords of The Underground, and many more, as well as producing 2 Amazon Best Selling books.

Shannon is currently growing her brand as an Instagram and social media micro influencer under the branding of Daredevil Bama Gurl and White Coat Woman. She is also a writer and has her first book on pre-order on Amazon.com, called “GRIEF”. Further, she has a children’s book series in development called “Eureka Teaches” which will focus on life lessons for younger audiences. Finally, she is in discussions regarding curating content as an interviewer at major sporting events. Shannon hopes that growing her brand allows her to bring more eyes to pressing issues surrounding caregivers and the disabled since she has been a caregiver in her professional life as well as her personal life with a 100% disabled veteran spouse.

There is one thing in life you can be certain of
If you don't truly understand GRIEF, it will take you down.
5 Lives. 5 Stories. 1 Need...Acceptance.
They won't all make it.

___________________________

What inspired you to start writing, and when?

I have so many stories floating around in my head and I've started and stopped over a dozen. I just never had the desire to just completely finish one until I saw my husband doing the same thing but finishing. He starts and stops stories all the time but he does it when he gets a block and he just moves to where his creativity takes him. That method works for me as well so now it's like an assembly line. Expect to see a lot of productivity from me in writing now.

Tell us a little about your book.

My very first book is a short story called GRIEF. Grief is a short story I have on pre-order on Amazon. I write a different take on the 5 stages of grief that we typically go through multiple times in life. I sensationalize each stage a bit to make it entertaining to keep people’s attention in today’s world but at the end of each of the 5 chapters I add some White Coat Woman education. I also have very sensational 1 minute book trailer to peak the curiosity of people who watch it.

Do you have plans for a new book?

Yes. I have a children’s book series I’m writing called Eureka Teaches. Eureka Teaches is a children’s book series I am writing for a younger audience. My middle name is Eureka, so the character is based on the 7-8 year old me. The lessons in these children’s books will be lessons every kid can relate to with solutions that kids will understand and adults will appreciate. I have some very unique formatting that I’ll be incorporating into the books so stay tuned for that.

Do you have a bucket list?

I have a bucket list that most people might think is unattainable. One day I want to be sitting on the couch being interviewed by Oprah or Ellen and listening to them tell the world to read my books. I also want to be a host of an entertaining show one day and keep the world educated on staying healthy and navigating the healthcare system in this country. Those are some long range bucket list items but I think I can one day make them happen. Some things closer to obtaining is doing some travel to Europe and Japan. Now that I’m a Nurse practitioner, I don’t have more schooling and a lot of free time to start checking off those boxes.

Where can your readers stalk you?

Well, that’s a pretty creepy word. Lol. However, if anyone wants to find me and follow my career here is how you can do that. Connect with me on any of my socials and I will definitely respond.

"A sort of highly-gifted one" because I am a kind of highly-gifted, representative and at the same time singular.

Everything is told under the psychological aspect, without self-censorship, always with the subjective look of who I was at each moment. I have conceived this book as a long version of the lectures that I give regularly, like in the opening of the "Surdouessence" symposias that I organize. Surdouessence is also an association that I created for the accompaniment of the highly-gifted people.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Alban Bourdy was born October 13th, 1983, near Paris. Diagnosed highly-gifted at the age of six, he will experience a very chaotic school course. At odds with other children as with the societal model, he will devote himself to writing as a main and systematic activity. In 2017, Alban created the association Surdouessence, which deals with facilitating the knowledge and management of to be highly-gifted.
How to Find Treasure in Amsterdam’s Skies — Dakota Classic Airlines Showcases Beauty Not Seen From the Groundtag:thebookmarketingnetwork.com,2018-05-17:523145:BlogPost:7158752018-05-17T16:21:17.000ZEditions Dedicaceshttp://thebookmarketingnetwork.com/profile/EditionsDedicaces

Dakota Classic Airlines (DDA) is a non-profit, dynamic museum with more than 100 volunteers that has matured into a full airline. The main goal of DDA is to stimulate the interest in historic aviation and to make it accessible to the public through exciting flights throughout the year.

Becoming a “Friend of DDA” has a variety of benefits. There are 1,500 Friends of DDA within the Netherlands and abroad who support DDA annually with a donation. In exchange, Friends receive the bi-monthly “Logboek,” an attractive magazine about historic aviation as well as reduced rates on sightseeing flights.

Friends of DDA include enthusiasts across the globe including Suelle Harts, a renowned Gemologist and jeweler who has a keen eye for beauty and history. Inspired by Remembrance Day in the Netherlands, Suelle became fascinated with the DC-3 and the special flights it makes. “Treasures are always found in the most awkward places. They are sometimes found underground and in the deep seas, but are never expected to be found in the air, flying high in the open skies!” Harts said of her experiences in the DC-3.

The history of the Dakota DC-3 planes is rich. First flown in 1935, the DC-3 was the first commercial airplane that was later adapted to military use in WWII. Pilots, both military and civilian, loved the DC-3 because of how easy it was to fly and maintain. This is why the DC-3 remains a favorite among historians and enthusiasts and serves DDA passengers today.

DDA flights begin with a history lesson before embarking on beautiful journeys across the country. Before departure the passengers walk around the plane and the pilot tells the life story of the “Princess Amalia.” Our Royal PBA played an important role in the liberation of the Netherlands during WWII. After the war, this DC-3 became the first official government plane in the Netherlands. You will also hear, among other things, how the elevators work
and how many horsepower the piston engines deliver.

The DC-3 Dakota was once owned by Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld, a passionate aviator and Dutch King after WWII. The beautiful aircraft stole the king’s heart. The legendary plane survived time and splendor and now this historic plane flies exclusively with donors and friends. Will you be among them sometime soon?

Previously, in Huntington Beach California for 17 years and re-located to Oregon in 2013. She is a Certified Health Fitness Specialist, Personal Trainer, Dance & Group Exercise Leader, Fitness & Nutrition, Biomechanics Specialist, AFAA Group Exercise Examiner, BOSU Master Trainer, FiTOUR Pro-Trainer, as well as a Pilates and Yoga Instructor. In November 2017, She published her first book, "The Stroke of an Artist" The Journey of a Fitness Trainer and a Stroke Survivor. Her work and book has been Nationally Recognized. Her second book, "Tipping Toward Balance" A Fitness Trainer's Guide to Stability and Walking, published in March of 2018.

How many books have you written? If more than one, are any a series…or trilogy?

I have written and published two books. “The Stroke of an Artist, The Journey of a Fitness Trainer and a Stroke Survivor was my first book. It published November or 2017. This book, Tipping Toward Balance, published March 2018. They are great companion books of each other.

Tell us a little about your book.

In this book I share eight exercises and the reasons why they have helped clients regain their balance. These particular exercises have helped clients stop tripping and falling and to regain the ability to feel safe in movement again. I also share some short stories of clients who all have various reasons for losing their balance. A range of personal and specific factors may play a role in the body’s balance and walking gait as they become off-kilter. This leaves people feeling unsafe in their movements, which, in turn, causes the walking gait to change and slow down because they feel out of balance or unstable. At this point, individuals may find themselves tripping often and/or falling down. At any age, but often as we get older, the body can become weaker. That can be due to illness, lack of exercise, neurological challenges or a diagnosed condition. In many of these cases, the body begins to move more slowly. You can feel unsafe in everyday movements, even just walking. The center of the body, known as the core, must be built up in strength for the rest of the body to be able to perform movements at their best. Frequently, building core strength is thought to be achievable only when you get down on the floor and do crunches. Many clients with weakness or stability issues do not feel safe getting down to the floor. Consequently, that leaves them thinking it is a lost cause to attempt to strengthen the core muscles. Thankfully, this is not the truth ...

Did you have an editor edit your books?

Yes I did.

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?

I prefer printed books on paper. I don’t like to read off the electronic devices, but I do love audible books. One of my books is in audible too.

Where do you prefer to buy your books?

Anywhere, but I love book stores.

Are you a self- published (Indie) Author?

Yes I self published on create space

Do you ever write in your PJ’s?

Yes always. I write in whatever I am comfortable in.

What are your pet peeves?

My pet peeves are when people interrupt to talk before I am done with a sentence, especially those who like to give advice before I even finish what I am saying they feel they need to offer advice too. They end of advising and conversing in a illusion of what they think I am saying instead of being quiet and listening completely. It annoys me very much.

Pick one - Wine, Chocolate or shoes?

Chocolate with nuts.

Cats or dogs?

I love cats and dogs. I have had them both. At the moment I only have my 1 dog and he is the best.

What is your favorite food and beverage?

I love sushi and sake.

Where can your readers stalk you?

Ha, funny question. I have two websites, www.tracyspersonaltraining.com and www.tracymarkley.com one is my author site the other is my fitness studio site that also includes me as an author. Coming from a medical background, it is no surprise that her novels are based in family medicine. But people love medical matters. So, set against a backdrop of everyday life in a medical centre, add in some good characters, personal dilemmas and a soupcon of romance and hopefully…. what’s not to like?

Out of Practice tells the story of one of the doctors and how she has to cope when her professional and personal lives fall apart simultaneously.

Faith Hope and Clarity tells the story of another of the doctors, an insecure woman who copes with life’s ups and downs by comfort eating and how she finds out who her real friends are.

What is your preferred genre?

My writing is commercial women’s fiction though I’ve had some very good reviews from male readers. From a reading point of view, I enjoy the same genre but also thrillers and detective novels. There is also something special about a book that makes me laugh out loud.

How many books have you written? If more than one, are any a series… or trilogy?

I’ve written a series of five books, Out of Practice and Faith Hope and Clarity are the first two in the series, all based at the same medical centre, with the same characters. I have also written two stand alone novels and am putting the finishing touches to my current novel which is not medical.

Do you have plans for a new book?

My latest novel, which is almost completed is a move away from the medical backdrop. Instead, I’ve set it in a tennis club. Since I retired, I’ve taken up tennis again (after many years) and have stumbled across a wealth of characters who are begging to be written about. This novel started out as a story for my sister, who was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. I sent her an instalment every week, to keep her entertained.

Do you plot or write by the seat of your pants?

Usually I start off with a plot but then the characters take over as they develop. In my current novel, I had no idea whatsoever when I started where it was going to go and it turned into a huge adventure for me.

Did you have an editor edit your books?

I have a wonderful friend, Helen who deserves a very special mention. She proof reads and copy edits part time on a freelance basis and she has been a continual support and help to me since I started writing seriously in about 2007. If you’re reading this Helen, thank you, as always.

Who designed the cover of your book?

Editions Dedicaces – and I was thrilled. I couldn’t have hoped for better.

Do you find yourself intrigued by the cover of a book enough to buy it?

Frequently, with mixed results. I’m sure we’ve all bought books on the strength of the cover and been disappointed sometimes.

Do you ever write in your PJ’s?

It has been known! Occasionally I do have to get up in the middle of the night to write, when I’m at a crucial point in the plot. I’ve also been found writing in my tennis gear but usually it’s jeans and a jumper. It’s also been known for me to have a hot water bottle on my knees in the winter, when I can’t persuade the cat to sit on me and keep me warm…

Cats or dogs?

Both please and also some donkeys and ponies. If push came to shove, then I’d have to say dogs and that’s not because there are four of them gazing at me as I’m writing as it’s nearly their supper time.

How many hours per day do you try to devote to research and writing?

When I’m writing a novel, I like to try to be strict and write every day. At least a thousand words, though of course there are some days when it takes hours to string two sentences together and other days when I can write three thousand words without realising that I’ve done it. Occasionally there are days when it’s impossible to write anything and then it’s best to get up and walk away from it and try again later.

Sleep in or get up early?

I am a lark. This dates back to my doctoring days, I’m sure as I’d have left the house by 0630 every day. Now I still like to get up early. There’s something special about that time of day, especially when it’s light. It’s so peaceful and quiet and there’s nothing like that first cup of tea of the day.

Laptop or desktop for writing?

Laptop every time. It can move to where I want to be. I’ve worn one out and have just bought a fabulous new one.

Where and when do you prefer to do your writing?

My favourite place is at the kitchen table (easy access to the kettle) and I like to write best late mornings and afternoons, once all the routine jobs (housework, shopping, dog walking) are done so I can concentrate

One of your favorite quotes –

Nil illegitimi carborundum – (don’t let the bastards grind you down). My senior partner at work used to say this to me repeatedly when I was having a bad time and getting stressed out. It is, of course, easier said than done.

Here the interview:

_____________________________

What are your pet peeves?

I always prided myself for having rhinoceros tough skin, safeguarding me against absurdity. And yet, if you ran into me and rode the previous rollercoaster, Cast Away: For These Reasons, you probably already know that I am fiercely opinionated and allergic to badly patched arguments. In the face of two major issues that pierce my heart, I am all for the death penalty when it comes to punishing dummies brandishing intellectual sheriff badges who are aiding and abating social and economic injustice. They make my fingers and toes tingle with ire, and I feel compelled to either shrewdly shock someone or emotionally jet away. Foremost, I am elated that my longwinded pieces intersect with numerous self-enslavement abolishment pleas that will ultimately form streams and lakes of insurgences.

Do you have a bucket list?

No. But after exhaling my last breath on this suffocating planet, I plea for thirty three strips of flesh to be torn from my chest then shekkeh. My soul would not rest in peace until my head is served as a feast to five Korowai tribe children, five years of age, while they are being serenated by a blind Danish comedian singing Con Te Partiro, and the ashes of my remains spewed around Cateura, Paraguay.

One of your favorite quotes:

“[…] it is the peculiarity of the human mind that it understands and acts through ideas, because it is very closely tied to the body.” Anton Wilhelm Amo

Do you have plans for a new book?

Well… between traveling to the most socio-politico-economically depressed places on earth, gearing up for the release of Ethosism in November, and campaigning for Donald Trump, I am writing another book, “Insomnia”, that should be coming out in 2019…

Where can your readers stalk you?

I recently started to give away chapters of my previous oeuvres on my author website, Ethosism.com. Like everybody else, Facebook and Twitter accounts. But I do occasionally put away my gadgets and rally against the information obesity that is crippling all of us.

A short presentation of the book:

Fifty Five Shades of Political Economy…. Economic theorists since their inception over 200 years ago, have struggled with the question of how to distribute wealth and continue to come up short. The author is not only criticizing capitalism, but finally has brought to the table, a new thought provoking alternative to the economic cannibalistic system. The author’s unconventional line of attack, will raise your heart rate and make you nauseous. By the middle of the book, you might be searching for a long rope to hang yourself with, thinking that humanity is doomed… but you will be missing out on the spectacular finale. This book is not one more economic liturgy. The author offers a thought provocative remedy to global socio-economic inequality; the rise of Ethosism. – Tara Casimir, Editor.

These stories, parables and anecdotes are either counter-intuitive or logically inconsistent and, in that respect, thought provoking. Some are humorous, yet insightful. Some ask an unanswerable question, others will converge to an unforeseen and surprising outcome. Each title tends to be unpredictable and has a somewhat satisfying, and in some senses edifying, conclusion. In short, they are ideal entertainment for reflective readers looking to enrich their perspective on life.

The stories in Only Fate Is Written are primarily independent, though some are sufficiently related to be treated as thematic. Those delving into the pages of Only Fate Is Written will feel the inescapable hand of fate as it influences all man's activities.

Following a successful career in strategic research/technology and administration, I began to parallel academic authorship with writing popular science and biographical articles for various technical and innovation magazines.

Apart from a fascination with inventors, inventions and new technologies I also enjoy writing 'off the beaten track' fiction, particularly when it leaves the reader slightly breathless. My first four novels were well received with my fifth title, "The Odessa Bride", at the time of writing getting near to completion. My publication record covers 11 Books (academic, fiction and humour) under various names and pseudonyms along with 68 research papers and umpteen popular science and innovation articles.

A branch of the enterprise was formed on April 1 2014 in the State of Delaware, in the form of a Limited Liability Company. The purpose of this new entity is to develop and expand the scope of activities of the publishing house and providing significant expansion into a market with several million people.

Today we take you back to meet a person who has become the spokesman for the publishing house since its creation in Delaware. Joey Perez is an actor and a producer of great talent. He played in theater. He also starred in films and in many commercials in the United States, for companies such as Toyota, Volkswagon, Six Flags and more. He was also the spokesman of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide. But that’s not all! Mr. Perez is a businessman, as he created two new companies: Audio Dollar and Webby Cloud. So, we invite you to read this very interesting interview with Joey Perez:

Hello Joey. You are a professional actor. You have done over 20 national commercials for companies such as Feed the Pig, Six Flags, Volkswagon and Mcdonald’s. Can you talk about that?

It’s my pleasure Guy, first thank you very much for giving me the chance to work with your publishing company, I have to say its been great. I’ve been an actor for most of my life, and I’ve done a lot of national, international commercial and industrial work. So over the years I’ve attended thousands of auditions and casting calls. I started my journing to becoming an actor because I was interested in policitics at a young age believe it or not and I thought one way for people to get to know me, is through doing some movies and tv. Like the Ronald Regan and Arnold Schwarzenegger route, but I’m more involved now with philanthropic activities and that makes me happy. I try to mix things between acting and philanthropy. I also doing some creative work tied into ecommerce businesses.

You also acted in several films and TV shows. Can you tell us about that experience?

I’ve done a lot of short films, and have done a few films growing up but my experience is limited because I was always focused on school, but my favorite film I worked on is The Limey directed by Steven Soderbergh. He directed the oceans 11 movies, Contagion. I also worked with Terence Stamp and Luis Guzman on that film, great guys. When I first met Terence he was a cool guy and I didn’t know he was the original General Zod from Superman with Christopher Reeves. After I realized that, he was all excited to talk to me about that film. It was funny, because He was telling me during the set, where he points the shotgun to his chest and fires it, well the blank on the shotguns actually blew his chest hair off, and they had to glue fake chest hair throughout the rest of the movie. I thought that was funny. After I become an adult I focus on booking more commercial work to make sure I had somewhat of a steady income as an actor. That is how I was able to do a lot of commercial work. I plan to move more towards films and theater now that I’m older.

I was told that you also played in the drama “Murder With Malice” (Sinergia Theater) and “Toro apestoso” (Nosotros Theater). What was the experience for you?

Murder With Malice was a theatre play and it was one of my first plays I did and it taught me a lot about acting and at the time I was in Beverly Hills Studios Acting school too. Nosotros was a great place too, a lot of fellow Latino actors doing great skits. I had a great experience with both theaters and I learned a lot about the acting craft there. I also did bi-lingual version of the plays both in Spanish and English. That was fun and pretty intense because I had double the lines to memorize and its pretty interesting because I remember it was a little different between the version, I don’t know how to describe it but some parts were funny in Spanish and in English they were serious and the crowed reacted differently. Great experience…

You are a member of “Associated Actors & Artists of America” and “Producers Guild of America”. Does it gives you something more in your career?

Oh yes definately, you see when you start working on bigger projects in an acting career, Screen Actors Guild invites you to join their union, when you work on projects that are “SAG” certified meaning the production company that is hiring the cast promise to pay you on an actor scale, so everytime it shows on TV or in the movies or on netflix or whatever, you get your fair share of residuals, I mean this is only a small part of what the union is good for, they are helpful when it comes to keeping the workplace fair and support aspiriting actors. The same concept applies to the Producers Guild of America, I’m part of the New Media Division that focuses on the internet video production stuff. The PGA is great because they always invite me to different mixers, events, private screeners or events in which we and other producers can get together with some of the biggest and successful producers in the industry. They really help out aspiring producers and support the big famous ones too.

Not only are you an actor, you are also a producer. Can you tell us about your work as a producer?

Sure, one of the things I love to do is help people online get industrial and advertisement videos, so I produce those types of videos. On the indie side, I have a couple of projects, one entitled Delayed Diagnosis, I can’t release too many details of the film, its on IMDB but its not updated, there were some problems with the film and I have to re-cast because of time constraints with some of the production crew and cast, I also ran out of the budget but hopefully I’ll finish it hopefully in a couple of years. I’m also working on a documentary project about aspergers and autism in which I’ve already filmed about 25% of it, it takes a look at the lives of people who are clinically diagnosed and the things families have figured out to make sure their loved ones suffering from these mental disibilities have a fulfilling live. The documentary is unique in the way it presents itself, we take a close look at “out of the box” care giving techniques that are unique. I hope this documentary can inspire other families with simliar sitatuions that deal with their loved ones.

You have already met the actor Mel Gibson and his girlfriend Nadia Lanfranconi on her birthday party. What was the purpose of this meeting?

Oh yes, haha, when I mentioned that to you I was referring to the documentary and one of the actresses that worked on a segment in the documentary, I just came back from her Birthday party and I have to say she shines no matter where she is at, she is a very talented and bright young lady. She helped very much with the first segment of the documentary with a genetlemen who had aspergers and was stuck in a situation where he needed someone to help him, Nadia offered to help this disabled man. She played a fictional character in a real documentary. I can’t say too much of the documentary but when you see it, you will understand and it will surprise the viewers. While I was at her birthday party I met Mr. Gibson and him and I spoke about aspergers and what medical breakthroughs have been achieved. I’m a fan of his work as well and to my surprise he happened to be there and happen to be Nadia’s boyfriend. He is actually working on some projects in the silmiar genre so we shared a bit of helpful information and he made some suggestions to help in my documentary. Nadia and Mr. Gibson are very involved with helping the disabled community and the progress to find cures for some of these mental dieases. I was very honored to have met him there, and I can’t say enough that Nadia did a great job in the documentary and truly changed the life of a disbled man but that’s all I can say for now, you have to wait until I finish it.

You told me once that you have a movie project that can be distributed on the web. Can you talk about that?

I can’t talk too much about distribution or media platforms that I plan to do business with because I’m still working out those deals but I can tell you that on some of my smaller projects, I plan on self-distribution and I hope to be able to book my films directly into movie theaters sometime in the future. The internet has made a lot of aspiring filmmakers into well known artists because it connects the filmmakers directly to the public. I believe its also a ripe market for start up producers like me who wish to build a one of a kind distribution platform that is innovative for example like what youtube is doing with their 360 videos. You can actually simulate a movie enviroment you just can’t move but you can turn left, right up or down, imagine if someone made a movie like that, in the movie theaters. Image when you go to the movie theaters and you not only have 1 screen in front of you but 4 all around you, and you can actually turn your head and see the virtual enviroment of that movie… the first place that type of technology is going to show up at, is the internet. If you have an idea, the internet is a place where you can innovate and be one step ahead of the bigger guys who already have a monopoly on media communcations and distribution.

That is one of my goals in the entertainment industry is to cut out the middle man as much as I can because networks, studios and all those who hold a great deal of what you can call power or what not sometimes have to make limited decisions on the things they distribute to the public. The major studio and networks are great when you want something of high budget produced that cost millions and needs a big production crew and studio sets or sound stages but some independents like myself don’t really need those kinds of things or a big studio set to film on. All we need is the brain power and the internet. That is something that amazes me and I’m already doing it myself and I don’t plan on stopping.

For about a year, you are the spokesperson for the publishing house Editions Dedicaces LLC. What pleasure do you have to present books and authors?

Its been a great adventure becoming a spokesperson for Editions Dedicaces LLC. I’ve got to say one of the coolest publishing houses around. Every story I read about either is very inspiring or actually gives me a point of view on something that makes me think about things differently, and that is something I definately like. The founder, Guy Boulianne has been a great director and the scripts are written beautifully. When I present the books through the promotional videos, I can feel it captives the audience for sure. I can see this publishing house is ahead of the game too with the way they market and reach out for public exposure. Having been a business marketing major, I can tell that a lot of work goes into building all the pieces together to get the book read. It’s been a pleasure being a spokesperson for the authors and their wonderful fictional and non-fictional literature.

Are you a person who reads a lot of books? If so, what genre interests you the most? Would you prefer to read books in print or digital format?

I wish I could say I read a lot of books that I would like to indulge in but unfortunately, the only books I actually read are study books and self motiviation or help books at this time. A lot of what I do I do myself or have to instruct a team of young people who are still learning the trade so a lot of my time is given to making sure things are running smoothly or if needed micromanage my team. I always prefer to read in digital format because I believe in saving a life of a tree here or there. Haha. Its true. As I get older, my heart I guess is starting to soften up a bit. I started rasing chickens and have had these two beautiful chickens Betsy and Barbie, you know, to get some organic eggs every now and then and see how it is to have chickens as pets, and I’m starting to feel sorry for eating chicken now. I hope in the future we don’t use trees to make paper, so I opt in for digital all the time. I have a few PDF and ebook readers and I upgrade to the latest ones whenever I can. I love tablets, I have to thank Steve Jobs for perfecting the end user experience that makes it easier for me to use tablets.

You have dual Mexican and US citizenship. You already told me that you want to use the fame and fortune to run for the presidency of the United States or Mexico. Is this is a serious project?

It was and I like to still talk about it haha, especially if I had a few beers, maybe when I’m 85 I’ll run.. haha. I always like to be the first in somethings or like to be a trend setter, so I thought heck, why not try to run two countries, and I would probably be the first person in the world and go down in history as a man who did just that… I am Latino and my mom is from Tijuana and my dad from Hidalgo. From what I understand it isn’t illegal either to technical, I can if I want to. Both contries recognize the dual citizenship. Ask me 20 years from now again, maybe i’ll be more serious about it but for now, its part of a dream.

You currently have two enterprise projects: Audio Dollar and Webby Cloud. What are the objectives of these two companies?

Yes, along with the entertainment industry I plan to establish e-commerce businesses in vertical markets in which I work in and know. Audiodollar.com is great because it ties into my video advertisement and creative production work, its a place where anyone especially those people who do youtube videos, can get royalty free background music for their videos. When I started doing videos way back in the day, late 90’s actually, it was really hard to find background music because as you know you have to pay licenses most of the time for music and every time you play the music you have to pay royalities. Actually its more complicated then that, you actually have to have a system in place to track those plays too, so its not only the music that costs you but the actual logitics, systems you have to set up to make sure you pay the fair share of music royalities to the music artists. Audiodollar.com lets you just sign up, log in, and browse the music you want and need and only pay $1 dollar one time and it comes with unlimited license useage, meaning you can use it as many times as you want and on any of your projects. Artists can sign up too and sell their music for $1 dollar, bands for example can record some of their practice music and just upload it to the site and make money too, so they can make a few extra dollars on their music.

Webbycloud.com is the first solar powered cloud company that offers you a private personal cloud storage for just $5 dollars for life. Its simple and there are no monthly fees, I specifically want a lot of artists to use it because you can access your files from any device over the internet. You also save the enviroment everytime you upload because our servers are powered by solar power with a power line back up from the electrical company. As of this article’s publication date, we have 600 happy customers who are using Webbycloud.com for their storage needs, most are clients who store their video advertisements. As of this moment, its invite only to join Webbycloud and we try our best to provide the best security for a remote cloud storage system. Every account is setup by hand, meaning a person sets it up, and has its seperate URL and log in, we don’t use one single login database, that improves security. My team and I are also working on a device called the “Cloud Vault” which will work like a bank system that holds your money at the bank but this will be your data. I can’t release too many details because there are actually devices we are building that will be patented network devices that increase security measures to give 99.9% security of data stored on one of our servers. I also recently purchased 5 acres of land in Barstow, California to be the new home of the solar power farm for Webbycloud.com, nothing but server buildngs, solar panels and back up system connected to the electrical power grid company.

What is your biggest dream for your future?

My biggest dream is to become like John Conner and fight with the human resistence againts the artificual intellegence robot terminator overlords… no I’m just kidding, I love that movie. I really dream about… I would have to say is to watch my children grow up and build a successful future for themselves and see my great great grandchildren and tell them how when I was a kid we would watch flat television in a big wooden box, had to drive your own car and ate unlimited amounts of sugar and candy without breaking the law.

Guy Boulianne founded his own internet-based book publisher, Editions Dedicaces, which makes extensive use of the latest publishing technology and social media, including Paper.li. He’s also marketing his own eBook reader. He talked to us about how he runs a thriving publishing company in the age of the eBook.

Tell us about Editions Dedicaces

We are a company incorporated in Canada (now in Delaware, USA) and we have just a few shareholders. We do not ask authors to pay us to publish their book, but we do ask them to <del>buy 15 copies</del> that they can sell.

84% of our books are in French, 6% in English. We print on demand, which prevents financial losses from unsold books. Our books are mainly sold in online stores like Amazon, eBay and Abebooks, but we also get orders from European and Canadian stores. We pay royalties annually (or bi-annually) to authors.

What is different about Editions Dedicaces?

We use the internet and social networks with the power to make us known worldwide. We’ve had manuscripts from many countries, including France, Algeria, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, the Republic of Congo, Argentina, the US and Canada.

We’re also the first publishing house to market its own eBook reader. But there’s more: the reader includes 75 original books published by us (worth over $750), 25 public domain books, 25 audio books, 15 music files (MP3) and 10 videos. It also includes a book of 120 recipes illustrated in color, a leather case, and The Legend of Wallapaco, text and audio formats!

There’s been quite a lot of interest in the eReader at book fairs, like in Montreal recently, and on TV: “Salut bonjour!” (Quebec, Canada) Rêves et cris (France) and Filmed in Utah (US). <del>We are currently in discussions with the Government of the Republic of Congo to buy them for young students</del>.

How are you putting the Internet to work for you?

All manuscripts are sent in via an online form on our website and our communication is based on VoIP telephony and fax. Our services are accessible via mobile devices at www.dedicaces.tel. We also provide free phone numbers for people to call us no matter where they are on the planet!

What devices can people read your books on?

Multiple devices, including iPad, iPhone, iPod, and Android devices and smartphones. Our eBooks can be purchased on different platforms such as Amazon Kindle, Payloadz, Smashwords (US), Actilib, Youscribe (France) and Kobo (Canada). In fact, we just signed a contract with the Spanish company Bestsharer making our eBooks available for loan on the platform 24symbols.com.

How do you market the books?

We use many social networks to advertise our products and services, as well as offline advertising.

We also appear every week on Filmed in Utah, which has a total audience of 290,000 in Utah, South Idaho and parts of Colorado and Wyoming. The videos go on the Filmed in Utah Youtube Channel, which has had over 270,000 visitors. Each episode has now been seen nearly 6,000 times … only on the internet!

And we have been featured in dozens of newspaper articles in Europe, Africa, the US and Canada.

We are working hard to publicize Editions Dedicaces internationally, and therefore the authors we publish.

How are you using social media?

Our official blog is automatically broadcast on our various Facebook pages via the online service NetworkedBlogs. Then, we schedule each message in our SocialOomph account, to be broadcast once a week for a few weeks on various social networks like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

SocialOomph allows us to significantly increase our readers and followers. During the last 30 days, our Twitter followers increased by 6%, which is not negligible. It also allows us to analyze our market through very detailed statistics.

We also use our RSS feed to broadcast our news on dozens of websites, as well as Youtube to share our many videos.

What marketing do you do offline?

Book fairs in Canada and France, including 4 consecutive years at the Paris book fair, the Montreal book fair and Expozine, also in Montreal. It’s the largest trade show dedicated to small publishers in North America.

Tell us about some of your social media successes

In 2011, we created our own social network through Ning.com. It’s called “Bottin international des professionnels du livre” (International Directory of the Book Trade). It brings together the different groups in the publishing industry: authors, publishers, printers, literary agents, photographers, illustrators, distributors… The goal is to create a comprehensive directory to be published in paper and digital format.

Members can post their information, create their blog, post their photos and videos, create and join groups and forums, announce their events and chat with other members. It’s growing day by day.

How does your Paper.li paper fit in to your strategy?

We use SocialOomph to publish our Journal automatically twice a day. Our 6,750 followers receive an alert via Twitter, which brings us a daily readership without us doing anything else. Automation is very important for us because it removes a significant overload of work.

Additional to that, because the Journal disseminates the most important information from Twitter on our topic, it brings an undeniable prestige and loyal readers.

What advice do you have for other smaller businesses on using Paper.li?

The editor must use all the resources offered. Give the paper a name and description reflecting the company, add a link to the website and a background image that characterizes it. Curate content from the best contacts. This will make people want to read it regularly and come back to it often.

It’s also a good idea to integrate the paper on your website, as we have, which will attract more readers.

When everyone thought him dead, he reappears four years later in his fortress... but another lord had replaced him. Can you tell us which is in your opinion the main interest of the e-book and the reading tablets ?

Guy Boulianne: The main advantage of the digital book is its affordable price. In general, the digital book is always less than its paperback version. On the contrary, it’s true certain publishers sell their digital books at the same price as their paperbacks, sometimes even more expensive! At Editions Dedicaces, we have always thought that is an absurdity, taking into account the very low cost of production and distribution of these dematerialized publications. On our part, we sell our digital books at half the price of their paperback version, while giving a proportionate share to the authors.

The other advantage of the digital book is its lightness and mobility. Myself, I consider the paperback as being a heavy object. I prefer to read in bed with an e-book reader than a book of 450 pages! The tablet (or the e-book reader) allows you to put in its library many books, which is very convenient when traveling. This is a definite advantage.

TR: Do you see, however drawbacks of the e-book itself ? For example, certain people complain that the publishing software doesn’t include illustrations or doesn’t provide a good presentation of the text… What do you think?

GB: Most e-book readers allow the reading of color images, or at least in black and white. So I see no problem at this level. Regarding the layout of the book, you have to pick the right software to accomplish this task. For a publisher or an author, it’s possible to create well accepted digital books using the free software Calibre. There are also publishing services offered by professionals. Obviously, this all depends on the budget you want to allocate to one’s publications.

Everything is going pretty well for Editions Dedicaces, as our digital books are accepted by most major platforms such as Kindle (Amazon), iBookstore (Apple), Kobo (Rakuten) and Nook (Barnes & Noble).

TR: Some people think the digital book will « replace » the paperback. What do you think ?

GB: Personally, I never thought the digital book will one day replace the paperback. Several people fear its disappearance, with the arrival of the digital books, but from what I know, this is still not the case! People are too attached to the book-object for it to disappear overnight. Myself, I still buy paper books. I love the paper book, even though I often prefer to read with my digital device, due to its lightness. The digital book is the complement of the paper book. Neither one nor the other will disappear.

TR: As general director of the Editions Dedicaces, you created an e-book reader on which you have published several of your authors. For what purpose did you do it?

GB: We have been looking for a long time for a new way to promote our author’s books. After having thought of several projects, the idea came to us to launch our own e-book reader. We never thought to compete with the big players like Apple, Samsung, Amazon, PocketBook, Bookeen or other companies. The only thing we wanted was to make an original product to help us promote our authors. Therefore, we have been, and are still the only publisher with its own digital book reader.

We began with an e-book reader model, monochrome no-touch screen. Thereafter we marketed our current tablet with a color touch screen. People seem to enjoy it because some customers have returned to buy a second or a third device. To date, we have sold a hundred units. It’s not much, but at least we made it and we’re very proud. Several newspapers, television channels and radio stations spoke of our e-book reader. It was even featured on TV5 Monde, which made us known internationally.

TR: You live in Montreal (Quebec, Canada) and you have a branch in the United States. Do you think the digital book sells better in American than in France ? Why ?

GB: Indeed, we have created in the United States - not a branch - but an independent company with the same name: Editions Dedicaces LLC (www.dedicaces.us). We have already published several books in English, written by authors of different countries, like the United States, England, Ireland, Serbia, Sweden and Australia. To date, we see no difference regarding the sale of digital books. I believe that everything is equal.

That said, the digital book is very important because it multiplies the sources of revenue. Often, more digital books are sold than paperbacks. So it is a market not to be neglected!

TR: Do you have other personal remarks to make, as a reader, author and / or publisher of eBooks and eReaders Tablets?

GB: LesNumeriques.com wrote that sales of e-readers doubled in France now with an estimated installed base of 500 000 pieces (in 2013); that's what the GfK study revealed, announcing 2 million downloads, an increase in revenue of 80%, representing 0.6% of the total book market. This share of digital books could reach 3% in 2015. If the offer is still insufficient, it will also grow: Le Monde recalled that "More than 90% of the 646 titles in the literary season 2012 were available in digital version at the same time in hard copy, and concomitantly". So the digital book is here to stay... just like the paper book!

Thank you very much, Guy BOULIANNE, for participating in this interview.

The extraordinary story is a previous unrecorded, and unconfirmed, story of bravery during WW2.

It’s 1942. A small peasant farm, in the mountainous region of Nazi occupied Austria. On it lived a man, his wife and two daughters seven and five years old. Their life was relatively unaffected by the war, even if a Nazi garrison was close to the tiny village in the Tyrol. That was until the night a terrified family of Hungarian Jews, desperate to escape across the border, hid in a barn on the property and suddenly the family was in great danger. It was Teresa, their seven year old, who led the refugees to safety under the very noses of the Germans.

His perception of the war is drawn from mid-level combat, and prepares the reader to reflect on the psychological and spiritual aspects regarding the fragmentation of self relative to veterans from any war – especially relevant to the wars fought in Iraq and Afghanistan where soldiers have faced IEDs daily.

I’ve read hundreds of books about that war and written several more, but the one thing that most often eludes these stories, my own included, is the terrifying sense of anticipation that every soldier carries through every day and then brings home to live with for the rest of his life, should he be so lucky. To feel that every second in a war zone holds the origin of your oblivion and to realize once you leave that you are living on time borrowed from corpses is emotionally exhausting and almost impossible to put into words. And yet, Gary McGinnis has managed to do just that with grace and lyricism and great honesty. His book Good for One Ride is a small book in terms of pages, but it is a huge story. If you read it, you will understand the scourge of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that curses combat veterans forever. This is an important work and only enhances the Vietnam War literature that has come before.”

This book explores the tragic ending of the last of the Moghuls. Three hundred and eleven years of Moghul rule with eighteen emperors in between separate Bahadur Shah Zafar from the first Moghul emperor of India during the history of the great Moghuls.

He was virtually a prisoner in his own palace in Delhi, subsisting on pension from British East India Company. When native soldiers rebelled against the British, Zafar was accused of Mutiny. To which he exclaimed, how can an emperor mutiny against his own subjects? When finally British succeeded in quelling the rebellion, Zafar’s two sons and a grandson were brutally murdered by Captain Hodson. The emperor’s crown jewels were confiscated, he was exiled to Rangoon, Burma.

His sad poetry during his nominal reign till his death in exile is still sung and recited in all parts of India and Pakistan.

Expozine has been Montreal’s acclaimed small press, comics and zine fair for 11 years now, and every year seems to expand its horizons. The humongous room full of tables rented by independent authors and publishers attracts thousands of avid readers and culture consumers every year – partially for its food counter, which always offers yummy fare. Aside from the latest publications by indie publishers in both English and French, including Conundrum Press, Drawn + Quarterly, Encre Noire and the Howl Arts Collective, you’ll also find paper art works (from posters to calendars) by local artists like Billy Mavreas, Graham Hall and Nadia Moss. Here’s a chance to expand your collection AND your mind.

The Salon du Livre de Montréal is like Expozine’s big French brother – it’s giant, 37 years old and unites hundred of established publishers at the mega-huge Place Bonaventure. Dedicated exclusively to French-language publications, it spans six days and boasts famous guest speakers, including, this year, the great playwright and novelist Michel Tremblay (a fixture), Michel Marc Bouchard and, from France, Katherine Pancol. Go from booth to booth to explore the latest and greatest in French writing, or participate in some of the extra programming, including animated live interviews and roundtables, at partner spaces including L’Agora, Espace Archambault and the Place Confort TD. And while you’re shopping for yourself, why not buy an extra copy to slip into the Lecture en cadeau box? The charity distributed donated books to kids aged 0 to 12 who couldn’t otherwise afford them.

Just had an annoying and stressful day in the office and you’re desperately looking for something to relax your nerves and make you find the joy of laughter. There is nothing on TV and you are too tired to go out for a beer or a glass of something. What do you do in such cases, when the antidote for your increased stress would be a good dose of good humor?

The answer is that you should read this book. It is a cute story about a journalist, struggling by all means to do his job at the highest standards. The funniest part in it is that, even dough he does everything humanly possible, he rarely manages to be real professional and most often fells into a skin of a hilarious character. The story does not have only jokes and humor. Dramatic turn overs also can be found, as the book has quite a complex story line, but our hero always will enjoy a happy ending no matter what.

The best feature of this book is that it has a very light writing style, easy to be comprehended, even after a stressful day at work, thus it is great even if it is read in the evening. The author is giving the impression that the book was written in the most relaxed way possible, while enjoying a morning coffee in the back yard, wearing only a robe and some slippers. This is why this book is an easy lecture by anyone that needs a little break for all the commotion of a busy day. From the very beginning, the main character, going be the name of Media Guy, manages to make a funny scene, masquerading a dance with singing in a town club.

By the way the author describes him, it is obvious that this guy, no matter what situation he will be in, will always manage to pull the laughter of the audience or the curiosity of the by passers. He is the typical loser that wants to get successfully through life, but always manages to stumble in the most hilarious way, tangle things up but is capable of getting out of any trouble in the end.

The books style can be sensed even from the very beginning that it is apart from any other books you even read. The author, Aleksandar Krzavac, native from the former soviet Yugoslavia, born in Belgrade, imprinted his unique eastern European style over the entire book. Living on a time when communists were ruling your society, one needed a lot of humor, kept deep in his veins, to pass every drawback of this type of society. This humor help the author be a great writer and consecrated him in the writing world with his one of a kind satirical and funny style. This book does not elude his humorous style, bringing smiles on the faces of reader right from the very first chapter.

The truth is that we need books of this kind, we need to be pulled out from this gray and too serious society by an artist, throughout his books. Although, no matter how funny the story of this character is, this situations can easily be found in real life too, as this type of characters can be found in any activity domain, trying to make a name in the business branch but being baffled by intricate happenings, just like life does not want them to succeed. Without a doubt, this is a book that needs to be enjoyed, alongside a glass of cold beer or good wine, for the sake of our nervous system.

Even if you never felt the need of finding out about how other people live and how their life is going on, this book may rise in you an interest you never knew you had. It is based only of real facts and real characters, but compared to a history book, “The Story about Rene” gives a more intimate storyaboutreneinsight of things. Details and aspects which no historian could tell better than the person who lived and witnessed them.

The book reflects an aspect very sensitive for him, this being the story of his mother. A fact that is even more disturbing is that this book has been written from fugitive memories and based more on telling of relatives about his mother. The author’s lack on memories about his mother is because she left, due to a tumultuous marriage with his father, to England. He never had a chance of seeing her again until full-grown up and upon finding her in England. Only after she passed away, the author felt the need to tell the world her story, the legacy of his family and how things happened back then.

A special flair is given to the book because the action takes place in Kalapaluwawa, a small village near Colombo, in Sri Lanka. As the place suggests it, the families in this geographical area have very different customs compared to the family type we are used to. Even if it was a Portuguese and then an English colony, life in Sri Lanka kept some of its unique ways of doing things. Through his book, the authors give a full insight of what a family meant there. The challenges that appear in every family, how they choose to deal with them and how it was to grow in a family with only your father, brothers and some close relatives.

The book starts in a very interesting manner, managing to capture the reader’s attention by presenting the customs of that place, a bit of history and how families were being composed. The author also chose to add to the style in which he wrote special words, used only by that community, adding up to the close up feeling. This way, making sure that every reader will feel exactly how things used to go by, back in those times and in that particular area. There are very few books that manage to redeem, with details so beautifully placed, the inner life of a certain community.

Of course, besides all these aspects, the author is also trying to put together the image of this mother. Why she left, what were her reasons, how her trip to England might have been? He tried to answer these questions, and many more, with the help of his mother’s relatives, which provided a great deal of information as support for the creation of this book. Where gaps filled in the story, the author admitted having let in some fantastic scenarios, as he imagines, with mentioning the fact that a reader will be announced when and how much will this happen. Thus, keeping the true nature of this book, based exclusively on real facts of real characters. So, this book represents a good rate of a reality that took place in different times and different places.
