Today I am so please to have as my guest on the show "Julia Hoban", author of the fantastic novel "WILLOW", which wile produced as a YA novel has been enjoyed, as Julia explains during the show by readers of all ages, not just in the America's but now all over the world.

As always Julia provided a fascinating incite not only to the latest news about her book, but in the art of writing, something that will be of interest and I hope help many inspiring authors.

Not only that, but Julia kindly set up a competition for me to run on my blog, details of which can be found towards the end of this blog..

Also during tonight's entertaining show, we heard about the books success around the world from already being on its second print in Spain, to being launched in Germany, China and Taiwan. The book is also being launched in the UK this month though under a different name, becoming "SCARRED" a name which in many ways describes the book better than Willow"

As part of the pre-launch work in the UK Julia shared with us a wonderful article, she wrote for the The Daily Telegraph, one of the top newspapers in Britain.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/fashion/shoppingandfashion/7369893/The-power-of-a-parasol.html

The show was littered with interesting incites and anecdotes, which was enjoyed by all those who were listening or in the chat room, and is sure to be a much followed up show.

HERE ARE THE CONTEST DETAILS:

"In Willow there are references to several books, all except one of these books actually exist, though some might be not that easy to find online.

QUESTION: What is the one book mentioned in Willow whose name Julia made up?

The contest will close this Friday March 12th, with the winning entry receiving a $25 Barnes and Noble voucher. Entries must be made in the blog comments area on my main site.
My guest today on a book and a chat is one such fascinating person. Author, chat show host, and survivor Lori Finnila.

Though the show and scratched the surface of this fascinating lady, we were able to see in the items that she shared with us, what a life she had lead. From being an aspiring model and doing film work, through being abused in so many different ways, Lori has trodden a path through life that many would think only happen in films or on TV.

Being attacked while in hospital, which lead to her suffering a brain injury to perhaps hearing about the plot to kill JFK Jn, Lori's story is one of suffering a courage.

In her books as well as on her own radio show "Women Empowerment" Lori has with her honesty and courage, been able provide help and encouragement to many dealing in items from "domestic violence, and homelessness to brain injury's"

The show is a very interesting thirty minutes that all should listen to, just to see the strength and fortitude of this fascinating lady.

After realizing that I already had several YA Bloggers booked to appear on the show in January I thought "Why not make the whole month dedicated to YA Literature?".

I contacted several of the top YA Bloggers asking them for their top YA Authors in 2009. Not counting Julia Holban who will be making a return appearance in March, I then contacted about 10 of these writers. I am so pleased to say that every writer who returned my email was only too willing to appear on the show.

The first of these shows is on Saturday when Rhonda Stapleton author of "Stupid Cupid" will be my guest
It has been a year when family issues, medical issues and work issues have overwhelmed the literature, radio and friendship aspects of the past 365 days.

From the very start of the year leading up to my major back surgery until today when my youngest son was back in hospital, there has hardly been a day go by when one of the family was not sick or at the dentist, doctors, doing physiotherapist or at the chiropractor.

So let's forget about that part, let’s look at the good aspects of 2009.

What has 107, 101, 2 and 24 to do with 2009?

"107" that is the total reviews my book "Across the Pond" has received at Amazon since it first came out. I am so totally overwhelmed with the words of support, encouragement and the fact that so many people have enjoyed the book. As many writer guest on my radio show have stated, receiving reviews or an email knowing that a reader has enjoyed your work, makes it all worthwhile!

“101” is the total number of “A Book and a Chat” radio shows I have presented this year. I have had so much fun doing the shows, learnt much and made some great friends. Over the year I’ve had guests from central Europe, Australia and England as well as Canada and the US. I’ve had calls from guests parked on the side of roads, half way up hillsides, in restaurants and in the middle of forests. I can honestly say through all the time, I have enjoyed myself and from the feedback and the requests for return visits so have the people so have my guests.

“2” is the number of top ten books for 2009 that “Across the Pond” has appeared on during December, I am so shocked. As anybody knows who has listened to me chatting on the radio either as a host or a guest, I don’t class myself as a writer, I am know literary genius, just a humble story teller.

Locations of top ten mentions:

“24” is a number I’m not quite so proud of. It the meager number of chapters I have managed to write for the follow up to “Across the Pond” a book called “Across the Pond and Back Again”. This would be even less if it was not for the support, encouragement and almost bullying (I need it) I have received from a couple of readers whom I am now proud to call friends. Finally though I seem to be getting back into the stride of things and home to get the book written over the next few months.

My final blog of 2009 tomorrow I’ll be sharing with you all an event I will be running through January, that is my YA RADIO MONTH.

Last Christmas had been so special, a family sharing their Christmas joy, watching children open presents, seeing the happiness on their smiling faces. Sharing a stolen kiss under the mistletoe with the one you loved.

The day had been even more special knowing that at any moment the deployment would happen and you’d have to leave the ones you love and head for a land far away where sand replaced snow, and the nearest thing to Christmas decorations were the socks somebody had hung on a small cut-down palm tree that stood forlornly in the corner of the barracks room.

It was strange to realize that the first Christmas had taken place in a land much like the one they were now stationed in. Despite the dangers that confronted them every day the country still had its beauty. You could almost imagine seeing three camels following one of the stars that twinkled in the clear black sky, which could just be made out through the slit, blast protecting windows.

Sighing, the soldier picked up a magazine carelessly dropped by one of the platoon members, and started to read how many years before a war had been briefly stopped by Christmas.

On Christmas Eve in December 1914 one of the most unusual events in military history took place on the Western front. On the night of Dec. 24 the weather abruptly became cold, freezing the water and slush of the trenches in which the men bunkered. On the German side, soldiers began lighting candles. British sentries reported to commanding officers there seemed to be small lights raised on poles or bayonets.

Although these lanterns clearly illuminated German troops, making them vulnerable to being shot, the British held their fire. Even more amazing, British officers saw through their binoculars that some enemy troops were holding Christmas trees over their heads with lighted candles in their branches. The message was clear: Germans, who celebrated Christmas on the eve of Dec. 24, were extending holiday greetings to their enemies.

Within moments of that sighting, the British began hearing a few German soldiers singing the Christmas carol "Silent Night". It was soon picked up all along the German line as other soldiers joined in harmonizing.

One by one, British and German soldiers began laying down their weapons to venture into no-man's-land, a small patch of bombed-out earth between the two sides. So many soldiers on both sides ventured out that superior officers were prevented from objecting. There was an undeclared truce and peace had broken out.

That night, former enemy soldiers sat around a common campfire. They exchanged small gifts from their meager belongings - chocolate bars, buttons, badges and small tins of processed beef. Men who only hours earlier had been shooting to kill were now sharing Christmas festivities and showing each other family snapshots

The soldier put down the magazine, and lay back on the bed, still thinking of the previous Christmas, until an order barked into the barracks told that it was time for the night patrol.

Taking out a slightly tattered picture from their fatigues pocket, a small tear crept into the eye of the soldier. It showed a smiling husband and wife and two young children, gathered around a Christmas tree, the lights reflecting in the eyes of each member of the family.

Sighing once more, the soldier carefully pushed the photo back into their pocket, before reaching into a bag under their bed. Looking once more at the discarded magazine, they pulled out a dozen bars of chocolate and stuffed them into a side trouser pocket.

Corporal Fanning might be many thousands of miles away from her family, but as a mother, she may still be able to bring a brief smile and moment of happiness to some children in a war torn country this special time of year.

THE FINAL STAR (2006)

She stopped what she was doing and took a step back, looking at her handy work. The tree sparkled with multi-colored lights reflecting on the numerous ornaments that dotted around the tree. It would do.

She had only decided to put the tree up at the last moment, for her this Christmas was an empty shell of what it had been in the past. Her only daughter was three thousand miles across a stormy ocean with her family. Sure she would get the phone call, or if she remembered how to get the thing to work, a web cam session on the computer. The computer was something her husband had bought them so they would be able to keep in contact with their daughter.

Last Christmas he had spent hours teaching her how to use the computer to enable them to see and talk to their daughter and their grandchildren. It was almost like he was showing her because he knew… he knew that the next Christmas, he would not be there to create the link.

Just four months previous, she had suddenly found herself alone. One morning he had simply just not woken up. She never imagined life without her husband, but over the last months it was something she'd had to deal with.

Now being Christmas it was even harder.

She wiped away a tear that had leaked from her eye, and took a final look at the tree.

There was only one thing missing, the final star.

Every Christmas, the star had always been the final item on the tree, placed there by the two of them, as if to underline that they were ready for Christmas. This year when she had unpacked the Christmas decorations, she'd found the star broken, like her heart.

She sat sipping her coffee, looking at the tree; it looked so empty without the star. Just like her life was without her husband.

Sitting on the table beside her sat a pile of cards. She just had not been able to open the festive greetings when so many had been addressed to Mr and Mrs Johnstone. Picking the first one from the pile, she opened it and read the words inside. It was too much. Tears she'd held back for months streamed down her face. She dropped the letter and buried her face in her hands.

Why had he been taken away from her? What did she have to celebrate this Christmas?

Leaving the pile of letters unopened, she made her way to a lonely bed to cry herself to sleep.

It seemed she had only just gone to sleep when loud knocking on the front door woke her up. She looked across at the clock through heavy red rimmed eyes. It was ten past ten, who would be calling at this time of the night. The knocking came again.

"Hold on, I'm coming." She shouted pulling her dressing gown round her as she descended the stairs to the front door. A small face was pressed up against the glass. Carol singers, this late at night???

She opened the door and was nearly bowled over as two young children jumped at her, wrapping their arms around her.

"Merry Christmas Grandma."
"Merry Christmas Mum" came the voice of her daughter Rosemary and her husband, as they moved into the light from the hallway.

"What…. How… Why didn't you tell me…?"

Words were lost as fresh tears spilled down her face as her daughter hugged her close.

"Mum, we sent a letter. In the Christmas card? "

She looked back at the pile of cards, still unopened on the table.

Still in a state of shock, she led the family into the living room.

While her husband took the cases and the children up to the bedrooms, Rosemary sat with her Mom.

"You did know we were coming didn't you Mom?"

"I did not get around… I could not…" tears once more. "Mom, we could not let you spend Christmas alone, or any other Christmas for that matter."

"I don't understand…."

"Mom… After Christmas, we'll start planning for you to come back and stay with us."

Further conversation was stopped by two children filled with the love of the excitement of the trip, the love of their grandmother and the joy of Christmas came running down the stairs.

"Grandma, Grandma" they both shouted. "We've brought you a special Christmas present. Dad says you can open it early."

Eager little hands thrust a package at her.
"But… I can't."

Rosemary put her hand on her mother's, as her husband came and stood behind the two children, eyes wide as saucers with excitement.

"Mom, please, the children bought this with their own money, it means a lot to them."

Slowly she opened the package. Under the wrappings of tissue paper, she carefully removed a bright shining star.

Rosemary took the star, and with help from her husband placed it on the top of the Christmas tree.

Hugging her grandchildren to her, she looked at the star glittering at the top of tree. The final star was in place. Now she could celebrate Christmas.
Last Friday I was invited to an event at a school about seventy miles away. The school had previously contacted me re donating one of my books "of which we've heard great things" as a fund raising for their school.

Being always willing to help with such donations for any charity or event I was only too pleased to send them a signed hard back copy of "Across the Pond". Following this and some further emails passing in the night, I was invited along to the event. Then I could actually sign it then and there for the person who had one the item in the auction.

The school was only about seventy miles away but traveling in the rush hour in what was left of hurricane Ike when it arrive in CT (mainly rain) was not the most pleasant of journeys.

When I arrived at the school there were about seventy items ranging from "power saws" and "golf lessons" to a "free pass for homework" and being "principal for a day" in the "silent auction". I am pleased to say my book managed to get at least three bids as well.

After the silent auction came the real auction, I was amazed that such a small school had so many brilliant items for auction. These ranged from a week in a vacation home for ten (went for $1300)through items like "2 round trip tickets anywhere in US that United flies" (went for $550). In amongst all these there was one item I would have liked to have won, in fact it was the final item of the auction
"Zhu Zhu pets".

For those who do not know these are the "must have... can't get" items for this Christmas. rubbing my hands and counting what money I thought I might manage for this item, also thinking it was last item and people had already spent a fortune (to me anyway) on the other items I thought I had a chance to get this "Giant Hamster fun house and four pets" as a real treat for my children.

Was I wrong!!!!

The bidding went way pas the top end of my spending scale, in the end the item sold for $375. So it looks like an overnight queuing outside some of the stores for Black Friday is my only hope.

At the end of the day, no I did not sell any books, nor did I win any auction items.
But I had fun, I made contacts for possible future signings and I had a good time.
Children had been bribed with promises of things to come and were sleeping, or trying to sleep. A young girl sat resting her head on the legs of her sleeping Grandfather. Too excited to sleep, filled with the joys of Christmas, eyes as bright as the lights that twinkled on the tree.

The Grandfather opened his eyes and gave the girl a wink, "You ok love?" he whispered She smiled at the old man, "Yes, Grandfather" she said "I just can't seem to rest" .

The old man patted his lap, "Come here sweetheart and I'll tell you a story" .

Quickly she climbed on her Grandfather lap and nestled into the old man's warm arms. She smiled up at him, "Grandfather, tell me a story of a Christmas when you were a boy" .

A slow smile spread across the old mans face, followed by a flash of pain that filled his eyes with tears for a brief moment. The child did not see the look just snuggled down further, ready to listen to the old mans story.

I must have been just around 8, not much older than you. It was a Christmas like you see on Christmas cards, snow was all around, and for some reason people seemed to be more full of the Christmas spirit than normal. I had been looking forward so much to Christmas. Every day I had rushed home from school and down to the toy shop at the end of the street. There in the front window was a magnificent toy fort full of shiny soldiers.

Each day I pressed my face against the window, checking it was still there, until I knew every soldier, as if they were my own personal friends. I had dragged my parents to the shop on any chance I could, making it no secret just what I wanted for Christmas this year. Each time I got the "Just wait and see." But I couldn't wait, each day I went and checked that the fort was still there, and each day it was. As Christmas grew nearer, I noticed a look of worry on my parent's faces, I did not really understand what was going on. I heard talk of wars and battles, and soldiers seemed to fill the streets. But the only ones I was interested in where in the shop window.

Then one day I ran as normal to the toy shop, but the window was empty, the fort had gone. I ran home with tears streaming down my face, why had this happened? What had I done wrong? I ran sobbing into the house, my Mother came rushing out of the kitchen at hearing me, hands covered with flower from the cake baking. She hugged me, to her as I told her between sobs of the disappearance of the fort. She hugged me again a smile playing round her lips.

I looked past her, and for the first time caught site of my Father. He was dressed in Khaki, a uniform, as a soldier. I did not understand, and he hugged me to him, and tried to explain he had to go away for a while. He laughed and told me he would be back in a week or two. But the look on my Mother's face made me for a moment think something different. Before she too came and hugged me, her face full of smiles.

Two days later my Father went away, before he left he took me to one side.

"Son" he said "I have had a word with Santa Claus, and I think your Christmas will be just fine" .

The next days leading up to Christmas I could hardly sleep. The Christmas Eve came and I did not want to miss a thing, and I could not sleep just as you my Granddaughter. My Mother came and read to me a letter from my Father, and hugged me until my eyes though in the end closed and I slept. I woke in the morning And there it was at the foot of my bed, the Fort, with all the soldiers I knew so well, looking even better than it had done in the shop.

The Grandfather looked down, at the now sleeping girl on his lap. He sighed, glad he did not have to go on with the story. How would a young child like he had been understand about a black bordered telegram he had found his sobbing Mother holding. When he went to tell her about his present. I could not explain to her what it felt like to know his Father would not be coming home.

The Fort had remained untouched and un-played with in his room, until his Mother finally gave it to a friend. He had cried for a week, and that Christmas never happened as far as he was concerned.

He looked again at his sleeping Granddaughter, and gave her a hug. Thank goodness such a thing would never happen again in her lifetime he thought.

She stirred and looked up at him with half closed eyes. "I love you Grandfather" she said.

And an old man cried.
Her Majesty planted the first of four thousand trees on the park site and met workers involved in the project. She walked along a section of what will be the 100-meter track and went to the top of the stands to view the work on the main stadium. Unlike some countries leaders the Queen at a sprightly 83 did not use fashionable transport. Instead her majesty, who will be also be celebrating 60 years on the throne when the Olympics open, traveled to the top of the stadium in a builder's lift, or as one official called it a "shabby cage".

While the Queen made no complaints about the trip, there was plenty to "beef" about at one of her castles. Two Yeoman Warders or "Beef Eaters" from the Tower of London were suspended and a third is under investigation over charges of bullying Moira Cameron, who two years ago became the first female beefeater in the tower's 1,000-year history.

The term Beefeater most comes from the original Wardens' payment in rations that included beef, as well as mutton and veal. Feeding beef to elite troops to make them strong is good nutrition planning for one's army. This may also be connected to the etymology of the word "beefy" meaning strong and large, since the general public would have been unable to afford beef as a regular part of their diet. Retiring as a Yeoman Warder and continuing to eat beef rations would have been seen as a generous reward in a society that may not otherwise have cared for their aging population.

Yeoman Warders began guarding the Tower of London in 1485; today there are 35 Yeomen Warders and one Chief Warder. All warders are retired from the Armed Forces of Commonwealth realms and must be former senior non-commissioned officers with at least 22 years of service.

The Tower of London said in a statement: "We can confirm that three Yeoman Warders are under investigation in response to allegations of harassment. Two have been suspended. We take such allegations very seriously and our formal harassment policy makes it clear that this is totally unacceptable."

It said an investigation was already under way and should conclude within two to three weeks. "Meanwhile, the Tower of London is a close-knit community and, understandably, this is a difficult time for us all."

PAYA, Bringing (More) YA to PA, is an initiative started by book bloggers Harmony and Yan with help from Tenner author and PA librarian, Josh Berk, in response to dramatic Pennsylvania state budget cuts that have reduced library funding by more than 25%.

Since I grew up in Pennsylvania, this struck a chord with me. Plus, I think it is absolutely amazing and impressive that Harmony, a just-turned 15 year old, and Yan, a 17 year old student, have taken this kind of initiative and done such an incredible job organizing a website, book drive, and auction, with plans for an annual Philadelphia YA Book Festival beginning summer 2010. Oh, and that’s in addition to their regular book blogging and schoolwork.

The show explains how PAYA came about, and what it is doing to help schools and library's in PA. Share the knowledge of how three young people have taken on the responsibility to help Young Adult Readers in Pennsylvania and how you to can help PAYA.

After all as Kat one of the dial in guests commented.

"Everybody should be able to read a book no matter what state or country they live in."

Evolution Of A Sad Woman is a story that works on multiple levels; beneath the surface of a murder mystery lies the heart of a tale of the incomparable, enduring power of true love. As equally integral parts of her past, each of Kizzy’s five heirs managed to carve out their own special places in her heart, and, thus, subsequently plays a unique role in solving the mystery of her fate. By highlighting the genuine, heartfelt nature of their bonds, author Gale Laure helps the reader reach a higher appreciation of the emotional intricacy of her tale, and, ultimately, of love itself.

Written in a style all will enjoy, while this is Gale's first book it will certainly not be her last.

From having to re-write her novel when her computer crashed to saving her second book from the jaws of a hurricane. Stop by and listen to the fun thirty minutes as we discuss items virtual book tours, to where Kizzy the books female character might have developed from.

Since the last time I wrote about reaching the magic "100" I have received a five star and two four star reviews. Here are a few snippets of what the reviews say...

"...a cute love story. Highly recommended for teens."

"Ahhh, young love! This book reminded me of what it was like to fall in love. The young characters were so sweet, I wanted to meet them. This is an easy read and definitely worth your time."

"This is a great read for tweens and teens - and the rest of us who still love YA fiction. There is romance, adventure, misunderstandings and even a big bully you can watch get his comeuppance! Fred comes from England and stays with Brit and her family in America while his parents go to Australia. While he's there, he and Brit fall in love.

Brit and Fred are funny and endearing. I admit it took me a few pages to really get into the story, but when I did, I couldn't stop reading! It's also fun to watch Fred work out all the differences between the languages of the two countries. All in all, Across the Pond is an enchanting story of first love."

RADIO NEWS:

While my own "Book and Chat" radio shows are going from strength to strength I have appeared as a guest recently on these shows.

BOOK SALES:

I managed to sell over twenty copies of my book in the couple of days I was at the Big E, not a huge amount, but more than I expected. I am also working with Barnes and Noble and Borders to have copies on the shelves, though you can already order it for them, it now being distributed by Ingrams.

An E-Book PDF file of the book is now available check out the book web site for more details

I have also been asked to a couple of events to talk or be on authors panels.

Camden Council in North London has apologized after a woman was refused the loan of a pair of scissors in a library because she might "stab a member of staff".

Lorna Watts, 26, a self-employed dressmaker, was turned down at "Holborn Library" in central London.

She said: "It's ridiculous - public libraries are supposed to be supportive of small businesses."

A spokeswoman for Camden Council, which runs the library, has apologized and said it would investigate the incident.

Ms Watts, said: "I asked why I couldn't borrow a pair of scissors and she said, 'they are sharp, you might stab me'.

"I then asked to borrow a guillotine to cut up my leaflets but she refused again - because she said I could hit her over the head with it!"

She added: "It's absurd - there are plenty of heavy books I could have hit her with if I wanted to."

"I hardly look very threatening - it's really sad she could not make a commonsense judgement."

This lady then visited another three libraries in North London only to have her request rejected in each of them.

A government Health and Safety Executive said there was no policy in place on lending sharp implements.

"People know their own workplaces and must carry out their own risk assessments", she said.

"But we do ask workplaces to take a common sense approach.

"This could be a case of someone misinterpreting the rules."

A Camden Council spokeswoman said: "We are sorry we have not reached our usual high standards. We will investigate fully as soon as possible."

So hand out the plastic scissors, take away the sharp pencils, and hide all the heavy books. It would seem at least in one part on London library's are dangerous places.

I wonder what would have happened if she'd have asked for a "glue gun"?
I have over the last two weeks spent many hours at the Big E, the North England Fair that runs for four weeks in Springfield MA, as one of the CAPA (Connecticut Authors and Publishers) trying to sell their creations in the Connecticut building.

It is my first time at the event let alone selling my book, and I learned several lessons over the period.

If you do not know, "The Big E" is a huge event with upwards of 150,000 people a day vising the various building, stall, events over the four week period. While the top visitations are over the weekends, even the days I was there between 60-80,000 attended.

As normal at such large state fair, there are a wide range of places to visit and items to see, food stores of every shape and kind from the cheeseburgers in a doughnut, to bacon covered chocolate. From giant jacket potatoes to beer from each state in New England. You can ride an elephant, get a cartoon picture of you even purchase some Sham Wows. Basically anything and everything.

So, what did I learn?

There were four authors signing at the CAPA book store at any one time, each author had about two foot six of table space (see picture), with hundreds if not thousands of people passing you buy during the day. The Big E is an event for all ages and many family's with young children of all ages visit. This will mean that there is a market for young childrens books, being purchased by grandparents and parents.

It really helps if you have an author selling such books signing next to you.

I mentioned "passing by" this will happen unless something is done to attract this flowing traffic into your booth.

An eye catching cover, a prop etc anything to attract the attention.

I was at least able to do something to help stop the flow and bring the people into our area.

Using my voice and English accent I was able to almost act as a "fair ground barker", asking the public to "roll up, roll up etc..." actually it was more like. "All books by Connecticut authors, over 90 authors represented come inside, have a look around.".

I can't say it helped my book, but it certainly "I think" helped bring people into the booth and made sales for many of the other authros.

Have a hand out that gives your book details, how to contact you etc.

It might not bring sales, but several libraries, book stores, teachers etc visit and might pick you up to appear at a school or library. (We actually had two librarians there last Friday who spent over $400 on books)

Be willing to talk to people.

Have a chat, even if it's not about your book. As with salesmen, you get a few people around an others stop to see what's going on.
Just think of the "rubber necking" that goes on when there is a car accident.

Make sure people know what your book is about.

A lot of people take one look at a cover and think they know what the book is about. I learned very quickly people thought "Across the Pond" was about baseball, which is just a small part. So the second time I went I had a board with headline snippets that stated more that the book was for "all ages" etc.

While I did not sell a huge amount, I did sell some, also made several contacts and had fun.

To me the latter is the real thing. Writing is not my livelihood it is a hobby, and even with all the costs involved let's face it... it's still cheaper than playing golf.

So Tips:

Make Sure you are noticed.
Say hello to anybody who will listen.
Be willing to chat about your book and anything else.
Make sure you have literature to hand out even if people don't purchase your book.
It helps if you are able to take credit cards.
Enjoy yourself.

And finally, ware comfortable shoes, clothes and some throat sweets... Beleive me standing for 6-9 hrs takes it out of you.

This enables a writer to visits all parts of the world without leaving their desk. In the case of my virtual tour without leaving my sick bed.

Of all the companies I have known the best and one of the most reasonable virtual tours is with "Pump Up Your Book Promotion". A great group of ladies who go that extra mile to help an author promote their book.

http://virtualbooktours.wordpress.com

Now after months of negotiations, badgering and down right blackmail I managed to get two of the founders of "Pump Up Your Book Promotion" or "PUYB" as it is easier to type, one my radio show tomorrow.

So many authors, have not only passed through the tours of PUYB many like myself staying friends with the group even after the tour is over, that the show has had to be extended to one hour. Also it looks like being to much for one person, so my fellow radio show host, writer and friend "Kim Smith" is co-hosting with me.

Join me tomorrow on "A BOOK AND TWO CHATS" as we talk to these ladies about their lives, writing, PUYB, and the special "Twelve days of Christmas tour."

"A BOOK AND TWO CHATS" - Tuesday 7pm EST http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Across-the-Pond

It will be fun!
Many people have been have used and in many cases abused by one of the the many company's set up by Robert M. Fletcher, who over a period of time...

"Over time, Fletcher used over ten names for publishing operations under the umbrella of the AEG Publishing Group. Basically, Fletcher and LAG were running a fraud by charging fees for all services while falsely giving hope to the authors that Fletcher and LAG would find a publisher for their book."

AEG has been one of the most well known, but the names have been changed even though the net results of being in many cases scammed have stayed the same. I hear today that the state of Florida is now seeking action against this person/group who some say was raking in over $600K a month without doing a fraction of what they stated they would.

"Writers who have had trouble with Robert M. Fletcher or any of the above-named businesses can still contact the office of the Florida Attorney General, regardless of their place or country of residence, or the date of their involvement."

Now I read that the company has once again changed their name and are now calling themselves to "Strategic Book Group"

A good place to start checking for any information like this is a site called "Writer-Beware"
BEWARE MOVING HOUSE

Friends of ours went to move into their newly purchase house this last weekend only to find it was cordoned off as a crime scene. It seems the previous owners had one hell of a leaving party that ended up with a person having an eye taken out. They could not even leave their fully loaded Uhaul on the property until today as the state troupers were still investigating the scene of the crime.

As they say on all the good cop shows... "Be Careful... It's dangerous out there"
Bringing the prospects of many more films involving the more than 5,000 characters, I got to pondering over how you change a book into a film, or even get a book looked at to become a film.

As several people have remarked in my reviews the Across the Pond would make a great film, I would even suggest the next “High School Musical” perhaps Zach Efron, now’s he finished making "17 Again", could polish up his English accent and play Fred?

Both Disney and Hallmark have been mentioned as possible people who might be interested and I’ve had a couple of emails asking about film rites, but where do I go from here.

Authors need to supply authentic Hollywood-style book “coverage" of their books, as well as provide Hollywood studios, production companies, networks, agencies, and producers access to this coverage.

Coverage means a 1 to 3 page report including synopsis of the book, and comments that would include a perspective of the plot/characters/theme as well as the adaptability of the work into a screenplay, analysis of marketability, and other pertinent comments. This report is used by studios, production companies, networks, etc. to evaluate new books and screenplays they're considering acquiring for production.

So I guess my next step is to contact people/companies who can supply this service.

After that… well you never know.

“High School Musical - Across the Pond”

My mind is making up songs as I write.

Just imagine the leaving scene, the whole cast doing a “Leaving on a Jet Plane” number all around the airport as the two have to say goodbye… complete with flash backs.
Listen to my Book and a Chat with Heather Cariou author of a wonderful book... "SIXTYFIVE ROSES: A Sister's Memoir"

During the show heather shares with us, some of her early life, and how her sister Pam was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of four and given only a short time to live.

She promised to die with her, but as Pam fought the limits of her prognosis, she instead taught me how to live. “Sixtyfive Roses” is the way Pam pronounced the disease that altered the lives of my siblings and parents, who in turn helped alter the community’s response to the disease by founding the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. With the help of the Foundation, research, and new treatments, the fight to save Pam lasted for years, ending with her death at the age of 26.

As a last wish Pam asked Heather to give up her acting and go back to her first love of writing. It took Heather 20 years to learn and then to write this wonderful book about not just about her sister, but also about how we all can face life's challenges.

The time went by way to quickly for such a wonderful story, and we will I'm sure have a follow up show where we can learn more about this fascinating lady Heather Cariou and her book "SIXTYFIVE ROSES: A Sister's Memoir"
Normally it starts at 11:00 and I check about ten minutes before to make sure connections, microphone phone etc is working correctly. The you as the host dial into Blogtalk radio, set up your switchboard and wait for your guest or anybody else who wants to chat to arrive.

This morning however, when you attempted to open the switchboard you received an error message. I attempted to get to the switchboard, but no matter what I attempted this part of Blogtalk was not working. That meant that though my guest dialed in I was unable to see her or open a microphone for her to join the chat show. I could not control, open, play the music nothing. I even sang the closing music...

So I tried to chat for the thirty minutes about my guest, my book "Across the Pond" and YA Blogging. I had no idea what was going on and after, I could not even check or listen to the show.

Finally seven hours later the problem was fixed. I knew this as suddenly I received a message from my guest saying she was there.

The show is also finally now available for people to listen to.

So check the show out, listen as I try to cover 30 minutes about my planned guest, my book, reviews, have my rant about YA bloggers and even sing the closing music.

Give it a lsiten and let me know what you think
Alycia's being called the "Queen of the Yuffies (Young, Urban, Failures)"- a group defined as 'those with talents and ambition who reject the yuppie mentality of corporate jobs, rat races and anything that could compromise their ultimate goals- the word 'failure' is ironic because they don't fail at anything they want, they simply do not waste time on things they are not passionate about.
