In the past the laws only appeared on paper. Clearing land by burning is crime against humanity. No one must be immune from the law. Almost all those fires were started by local farmers and the plantation owners. Licences of errant plantation owners must be revoked and the owners put in jail. Otherwise, the haze will never be resolved.

The Air Quality & Pollution Measurement uses the term PM 2.5 to refer to Particulate Matter (PM) also known as atmospheric aerosol, which are two and a half microns or less. Exposure to PM2.5 even for a short while can be highly hazardous. For some, even for just one hour can result in heart attacks. Those with asthma will worsen if exposed to PM2.5 for a few minutes. PM2.5 enters the lungs. It is the majority of haze particles that are about 0.15 microns in size.

PM stands for particulate matter which is the main air pollutant in the haze. Each of these particles is less than 2.5 microns in size, and is equal to one over thirty of the diameter of a strand of human hair.

These PM 2.5 can travel hundreds of miles away from their source. Those sources are normally the wildfires or the volcanic eruptions. The more PM 2.5 is in the air, the more hazy the atmosphere becomes, and visibility is very much reduced.

When the PSI reading is from 1 to 100, it is normal.

From 101 to 200, it is unhealthy.

From 201 to 300, it is very unhealthy.

From 300 and above, it is hazardous.

It is believed N95 masks can prevent PM 2.5 from getting into your lungs. I have not seen or read the confirmation statements from its manufacturer. My inquiries with two other brands on the market have also not been replied to. Recently, N95 manufacturers confirm their mask can remove up to 95 % of the PM 2.5.

To carry out real and effective changes, the authorities should begin with the pulp and palm oil companies. These companies have the no-burning policies which of course appear only on paper. For example, companies that burn protected forests would get 10 years jail and a fine of up to 15 billion rupiahs. But until today, this law has yet to be carried out.

Each of these companies slash-and-burn several hundred thousand hectares of land per year and they must be brought to court.

The number of hot spots has been increasing in Indonesia year after year and by now it is clear that the Indonesian government is not able to stop it. What can the green activists do?

It is common for farmers to own 5000 hectare plantation in Indonesia. To flatten and clear one hectare of land for cultivation, a farmer will need to pay about US$1500.00.How many of them can afford it? The livelihoods of the farmers are involved. How does the police carry out the enforcement? Burning is the cheapest way. They just have to light up some dried grass or leaves, and the fire will raze on for the next many days.

Indonesia must have the one map policy with clearly marked all forest boundaries and concessions so that culprits cannot deny it is their areas which are burning.

Clear responsibilities for law enforcement officers must also be implemented to avoid confusion regarding whose responsibility it is to nail down the culprits.

Farmers and companies involved in slash-and-burn method to clear the land must be controlled. Fire permits must be regulated to limit a certain acreage burning at any one time so that we don’t have millions of acres burning on the same day.

In Indonesia, during the dry season, it is common to see charred plots of lands, for every few kilometers you travel.

Owners who breach the terms and conditions of their licenses must be fined or put in jail. Unless they are accountable for their greed, they will continue to take the easy way out and the haze will continue every year during the dry season. Do you have a better idea to prevent haze?

Fighting persistent fires in rural areas is not an easy job. Peat fires burn underground and are more difficult to extinguish because large amount of water is needed to put out the ambers. These pockets of peat fires are still igniting hundreds of hectares of burnt out farmland, releasing billowing smoke into the air because the fire fighters cannot reach some of those places.

Offenders in Malaysia face a fine of RM 500 000.00 or a jail term of not more than five years. This law is widely flouted with convictions unheard of.

The main cause is that there is more money in agriculture now than in the past. And fire is the cheapest way to clear your land. It will cost less than 1% of the money you need to spend to employ others to do the clearing, not to mention the cost of machinery involved. If you pay the police and firemen not to touch you, you can also get the job done faster. Within five working days, any parcel of land will be totally clear and you don't have to provide land space to hold the dead trees and leaves.

Some countries want to provide firemen and soldiers to help putting out the fires. The assholes will not allow your soldiers to put out the fire because by then who will remove those heavy timbers and grass? For a big plantation, the labour cost is not less than $7.5 m, assuming the plantation area is 50000 hectares.

Why is the UN keeping quiet at the moment? If this haze is originated from China, I am very sure the UN will treat it differently.

Land Issues in India

Indian farmers discovered they had been cheated, because government officers had taken their farmed land, using powers of eminent domain laid out in India’s colonial-era land acquisition law, at a very cheap price.
Indian farmers discovered they had been cheated, because government officers had taken their farmed land, using powers of eminent domain laid out in India’s colonial-era land acquisition law, at a very cheap price. Then the acquired had been sold to private sectors at 14 times what the farmers received as compensation. The original price had been inflated 14 times. This is definitely an unsavoury sales tactic. The private companies must be allowed to deal directly with the farmers, to prevent this sort of exploitation from happening again.

In one incident, India’s Supreme Court ruled that the state’s acquisition of the land was illegal. But the land could not be returned as thousands of families had already paid for flats of the partially completed buildings. The court only increased the compensation to another 64% in the compensation payments, which was still too low, based on the amount of money paid to the corrupt officers by the flat buyers.

India was trying to transform from a rural, agrarian society to an industrialized, urbanized economy. Will the Indian farmers continue to accept widespread compulsory land acquisition? Do they have the chance to refuse?

India inherited the British 1894 Land Acquisition Act, which allowed the state to take private land for public purposes, if owners were fairly compensated. So far India had used this power to take over land for roads, dams, steel mills, power plants, industrial townships, military bases, schools, hospitals etc. Many greedy politicians took bigger tracts than their projects required.

It is common to acquire land from the farmers, rezone it into urban land and sell it at more than 14 times the value, to urban dwellers. India is a country which is most complex to administer. For example, all the Buddhists properties were managed by Hindus. Why are the Buddhists not able to manage their own properties? The state governments will continue to snap up land tracts for new smart cities or industrial zones. When will the farmers get a fair deal?

Greedy people use their power to take private land and sell it to companies at more than ten times the price they paid to the farmers. Rooting out corruption is the best means of solving India’s problems today, and crackdown on graft is the next issue the honest Indians need to look into.

What does it means to be Chinese in the US today with Beijing throwing its weight around. Is it true? The fact is, it is not true. Beijing is not throwing its weight around. Beijing is not militarizing. It is only telling the whole world what it own over 2000 years ago, and this property is still their property today.

These Chinese American are either born in the US or emigrated to the US and are holding US passports. They or their parents must have been disillusioned in their countries of origin, where Industry standards and legal frame works only appear on papers. Our hearts exert a powerful influence over others, because there is a mysterious quality that has a soothing effect on others, if our intentions are pure. This must be the reason why the Chinese are able to settle down peacefully in the countries they emigrated to? Majority of these Chinese Americans have pleasing and amicable manners. They don’t grunt, squeal, and move about on four limbs like a pig when they are not happy with the existing government. They emigrate to obtain better income and more freedom.

About the Chineseness issue, why are non-Chinese saying this issue exists? We have no problem on this subject, at least for most Chinese. The phrase “fresh off the boat” was coined by the snobbish white men more than one hundred years ago. Today, most white American don’t think they are superior to the Chinese anymore. There must be some who still believe so, but those are the people who are actually suffering from inferiority-complex. You find them in every country. They are blinded by their own self-importance, with all thoughts of beating or killing other people, especially other races.

What does it mean to be a Chinese American at this moment when China is growing very fast? Many other races are very jealous of the Chinese. In South East Asia, many politicians still run down the name of the Chinese during political campaign. They tell the native voters if these voters don’t vote for them, the Chinese will take over the country and their new boss will be China. Most of those natives still believe this! Those politicians display despicable cowardice and they are cunning, deceitful conjurers.

With the thorny subject of the South China Sea cropping up, under the eyes of the other races, Beijing has become more abrasive. What Beijing is doing is to build up what was belonging to them over 2000 years ago. Why don’t you bring in your history books to prove the Chinese are wrong? The rationale is no longer there once they prove those islands don’t belong to the Chinese. The Chinese is merely catching up with rivals who have also built airfields and other infrastructure there on their own islets and reefs. The Chinese did not seek territorial expansion or domination. Thus their trade abroad did not lead to wars, conflicts, colonialism or imperialism. But western people were actively controlling and colonizing those countries along their trade routes.

If the law of 350 nautical miles from your shore is applied, then Batam and Johor must belong to Singapore, according to UNCLOS.

Many countries say Beijing has maritime & territorial ambitions, which is not true. Beijing is only protecting what was under Chinese rule for more than 2000 years. Is it wrong to protect your land?

It is indeed not easy to be a Chinese. Even stinky Chinese lunch has an impact on a person’s identity. But why are Chinese restaurants sprouting up in all US cities? There must be more Chinese in the US than Whites? I noticed most of those customers are Whites. They must be the educated Whites?

Recently, when the government of Zabaikalsky Krai, wanted to lease 1000 sq km of remote Siberian territory, idle land bordering China , to Chinese investors, for 49 years, the politicians in Moscow say this would lead to annexation of Russian land by Beijing. The matter sparked unease among Moscow politicians who obviously would not have objected if the investors were from Japan or Korea.

The Chinese are steadfastly firm with their culture, and they can fully integrate with the country they emigrated to. There is no doubt about that. When the Chinese settled down abroad, they did not kill the indigenous people and took the land from them by force. They coexist with indigenous religions and people.

In some parts of the world corrupt, evil and aggressive politicians can simply raise any claims for territory which historically was unknown to them. Isn’t this why most of the wars were fought? People simply walked into your territory, forcing the natives inland or killing them. Then after some years, they claimed the territory belonged to them and they wanted independence.

Many of these Chinese in the US are shinning there like the precious jems. Their talents are needed there. The Chinese name for the US is “Beautiful Country”. How many other races call the name of another country “A Beautiful Country” ?

Which brand is recommended? And which make? For this air bed (Model : #67225; 75” X 54” X 8.5”), the pump is not included, though they confirmed there is an attached device which you can simply step on it and lift your foot away, continuously, to inflate it. That attached pump for the unit I was testing was not functioning. It was also stated in their sales literature, that a repair patch was provided. I also did not find that repair patch. If the air bed leaks, is there a repair kit available? How much does it cost? Why is there no warrantee for this air bed? That air bed will definitely need to be inflated every 24 hours. Are you willing to spend time inflating it before you sleep every night?

If you have to work until very late hours and the closest hotel is half hour’s drive away and your home is twice that distance, you might as well sleep in your office. So this air bed is most convenient.

For those active in outdoor activities, they need to buy an air bed with a 12 volts air pump. For the model of the mechanical pump (GIYO, GF63) shown here, it takes 60 minutes to inflate it fully and that duration excludes the time to relax and rejuvenate yourself. For those who wish to take this air bed with them to foreign country, make sure your electric air pump can operate between 110 volts and 240 Volts, so that you don’t need voltage converter.

This air bed I am writing about will definitely need to be inflated again after a night of sleep. You will need to pump for many more minutes the next night when you want to sleep. Don't buy it unless you are willing to do this.

But I have met others who bragged on their fat salary. Club promoters, who pretended to be writers’ society members, were there to bring beautiful women to exclusive parties. Their club attracts big spending clients from among the young global elite, who are willing to spend thousands of dollars on alcohol and women per night.

Those poor ladies are recruited through friends of friends, scouted on the streets, from writers’ societies etc. Gifts and perks like free drinks, housing etc. (no small things for the underpaid fashion workers) are the main baits. The exchange of women’s body for US$1000.00 per night is normal, and it is of course consensual. Women agreed to their own exploitation, because of flattered egos. These girls meet important people at those events, but are they able to leverage anything?

Do you know how the thugs coerce people on the street to work for them? They first ask how much you earn every month. Then they laugh at you saying that is peanut. They pity you. They are trained to emotionally manipulate people, in order to win their trust.

After that they say they have friends at high places who deal with sending small packages to buyers in other countries and their reward is more than ten times what you are earning now. The opportunity is only open now. You must take it or leave it. And then they go on to convince you that it is very safe because you only need to fasten that small package to a piece of rectangular magnet, and stick it under other people’s car. When that car reaches the other country, you go there and collect the package after the driver has left that car. Then you hand it over to the buyer, collect the money, and bank in the balance after deducting your share, to the account of your boss.

My article speaks volumes on this topic and is only the tip of an iceberg. At the moment, they can hoodwink, mislead, and cheat, but for how long?

Craving keeps addicts addicted, so the greed for money also keeps these cheats addicted. Online anonymity enables these cowards to shout as if they are really brave, they post defamatory and insulting remarks everywhere. Hiding behind their pseudonyms these ruthless and tyrannical assholes use the internet to denigrate others and even other religions. We simply ignore them and continue writing.

In China the law punishes the buyers and the traffickers up to ten years in jail. The traffickers pretend to offer cross-border marriages, but actually they are kidnapping the ladies. These ladies are promised of marriage with rich Chinese in big cities, but are later sold to the villagers in rural China, or to the brothels. There are thousands of such cases every year.

Grinding poverty is the main cause. The next one is naiveté. Most of these ladies are recruited from Northern Vietnam. But traffickers are casting the net wider, reaching Southern Vietnam. Charity organizations are active on the Vietnam and China border. But enforcement officers are at times greedy and collaborate with the traffickers for a cut of the return. So how do you investigate and prosecute those cases? In some countries, the only difference between the police and gangsters is that the police are licensed to carry guns.

How do you empower these young ladies so that they will not want to take the risks? Perhaps we can teach them to read and write, and also to learn a skill which they can use to earn a living. These skills must be short courses which last not more than six months. How many courses can you offer? How do you motivate these young ladies so that they will have the urge to learn and move on with their own feet? These people are living on the mountains and they are illiterate. They still believe the daughter can have a better life as the wife of a rich Chinese and can send home some money every month.

Recently, more than 100 Vietnamese brides, after marrying Chinese bachelors, vanished and an organized ring must be behind all these. Buying wives from Vietnam has become very common for Chinese living in the rural areas of China. This trade in overseas brides is becoming very common. But the mass disappearance has become a concern.

Like in other parts of the world, kidnapping and trafficking of girls and young ladies is common in Asia. There have been cases which the kidnapper pretended to be the husband of the lady and dragged her off by force with no one willing to help as the public thought it was a family affair. Even the police guys simply watched and did nothing. He could be the crony of the kidnapper. If you face such incident in Asia, simply dent any car on your way or damage any expensive item around you. Better still, if you can find any hard object, throw it at any of those glass windows. The owner will stop you to demand compensation, and the kidnapper will run away.

They may have impaired kidney, anemia, severe stomachache, muscle weakness, and brain damage.

It has been confirmed that children whose blood stream contain five times or more than their healthy peers are less intelligent, with lower IQs. They may have impaired kidney, anemia, severe stomachache, muscle weakness, and brain damage. The extent of damage depends on how long they have been breathing in lead-contaminated air, and consumed lead-contaminated water and food. Other sources of lead dust are from industrial paints, gasoline, and lead oxide fumes.

For both children and adults, lead poisoning impairs brain function, making them irritable, and affecting the ability to concentrate and remember. People who live near manganese, zinc and lead smelters were found to have as much as 499 micrograms of lead per litre of blood; the normal safe limit must not exceed 100 micrograms. For adults, it causes high blood pressure, infertility, impotence, nerve disorders, muscle and joint pain. An adult in advanced country would not normally have more than 20 micrograms of lead per litre of blood.

Continuous exposure to lead for more than a few weeks may result in nerve damage, inhibiting electrical signals and slowing the transmission of oxygen to the brain, resulting in lower intelligence, irreversible learning disabilities, behaviour problems, and mental retardation.

In many parts of the world, flat bastard files are used to sharpen choppers, knives etc. The teeth of these bastard files are grooved diagonally in both directions. They remove metal rapidly and are very convenient and effective for sharpening tools. Unfortunately, the metal surface of these files are hardened with cyanide, which is a deadly poison. With cyanide in your blood stream, your body is unable to use oxygen, and life cannot be sustained.

In many food courts, the cooks use these files to sharpen their knife. So there is a chance that you will consume some portion of the poison, though the amount may not be critical at the moment. Other chances of cyanide ingestion are from household fires, when rubber, plastics or silks are burn.

The symptoms of cyanide poisoning are: general weakness, confusion, bizarre behaviour, excessive sleepiness, comma, shortness of breath, headache, dizziness, and seizures. If the ingestion is acute, the onset is immediate and it affects the heart, causing sudden collapse. The heart beats will be extremely fast or extremely slow.

If a casualty has some of the above symptoms, seek medical treatment immediately.

The latest case on dead after consuming food I heard was a four-year-old-boy who died after eating tainted food. So the inspection of food establishment s must be done more thoroughly and those officers must be independent hygiene inspectors. Do they know the food handlers are using bastard files at the eateries?

Vegetables packed in the farm are sent directly to the food stall owners. These owners do not wash the vegetable before chopping and cooking them. This is another serious issue.

All those cheats use bullying antics towards aggrieved buyers, and if you are in a country which is corrupt, there is nothing you can do to have your money back, because those thugs have friends at high places. Economic corruption and political thuggery are most common in those countries.

On the whole, Singapore has a very good reputation. But there are still cases of swindling going on. Recently, China warned its citizens of electronic scams in Singapore. Whether buyers have a legitimate case in seeking refunds or exchanges in Singapore is not very clear. We do have a Small claims tribunal. But you need to pay for that service and there is no guarantee you will have the money back, assuming that you stay in Singapore long enough for your claim to be heard. Some people give up and don’t bother with civil recourse, because of more money and time factors.

The police don’t want to spend limited resources chasing after small things. Perhaps the higher authorities will make it mandatory for the police one day. The police must be encouraged to take over when there is evidence of wrong doing.

Some retailers agreed to give refund to aggrieved consumers, on papers. They can refuse to follow the terms of the agreements; those papers they signed are only for display purposes.

I was also told it was costly and ineffective measures to hand over the case to Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE).

Fly-by-night companies will operate under a different name the next morning. The government must send out a strong deterrent message, or

more powers must be appended to (CASE)? Do you have an informed group of buyers who understand their rights and responsibilities?

How do tourists seek recourse if they are here for only one or two days? It will be more effective if a tourist who comes across a dishonest deal, can refer that case to the police directly.

In Australia, a company which infringed the consumer protection law can be fined up to A$1.1 million, and for an individual retailer, up to A$220 000.00. Does your country have this law? In Australia and the US, this law applies to the brick-and-mortar shops as well as the digital ones.

Oil pollution disrupts sea and shore life for thousands of miles in Asia. The beautiful coral reefs and mangroves, once existed at those areas are gone. Didn’t they have a chance to exist too?

A healthy earth will surely result in more healthy humans. How many more years do we have to wait to see some concrete projects being put into practice?

The use of green engineering techniques can help to save marine environment, and also to protect against invasive species and provide buffer against adverse events.

Why are development and conservation not able to co-exist? Impacts of silt during dredging and construction works have already destroyed many of the native marine species.

Dead water causing odours and become rife with micro-algal growth and infectious agents were taking place in Sungai Miri, in Sarawak.

Are you able to produce a range of geographic locations where considerable variety of living organisms in the seas and rivers have been destroyed?

Many oil companies manipulated water samples to hide industrial solvent. They documented falsified samples concealing the presence and the actual levels of contaminants.

I am telling you how to avoid the environmental liabilities many of which may carry civil or criminal penalties in future as the governments of the countries you are working in become more and more transparent every day.

In most countries, the effluent that is drained into public places, drains, rivers, seas etc. must not contain more than 15 ppm of oil. It is very expensive to stick to this target. But the resulting fines would definitely be more expensive.

Your company may be able to get away with it at the moment because of the existing corrupt governments. But how do you make sure the next government will be just as corrupt? Don’t you think an incorruptible government may be elected next? By then, the fines will be many times more expensive than the expenses you have to spend on treating the effluent properly before dumping it into the sea.

Shouldn’t the governments reward people who come forward to report abused cases?

According to a Smithsonian Institution report, in 1995 alone, 363 million gallons of used oils ended up in the oceans as run-off from land, municipal or industrial areas. In a polluted river, the water is smelly and discoloured. When oil enters a slow moving river, it forms a rainbow-coloured film over the surface. This layer prevents oxygen from entering the water, killing the animals in the river. Even birds are affected. The feathers of water birds can be contaminated and when they preen, the oil enters the gut, thus killing them.

It does not take a specialist to confirm a biologically dead river. Just stand at the river mouth, facing the sea. Can you see trees or creatures three hundred meters from your left and right?

In September 2007, 378 000 volunteers from Ocean Conservancy, scoured 33 000 miles of shorelines and collected 6 million pounds of debris, from Bahrain to Bangladesh, and in 45 U.S. States, from Southern California to Maine. Why didn't they include South-East Asia in the project?

If you are one of those who blindly believe marriages are arranged in Heaven, please read on. This article will save you lots of money and pains. In Singapore alone, from January to June this year (2014), there were 82 reported cases of love scams, involved $3.1 million being walloped by the cheats . In 2013, there were 22 documented cases, involving $1.7 million. Are you one of the victims?

These cheats set up the traps by sweet-talking their victims daily. They are actually working full time on these projects. When they noticed the women have some liking on them, they pretended to be sick, or having issues with the laws, and thus needed money to solve the problems. The money issue cropped up suddenly and those who felt they cannot lose the catch would begin to remit money to them.

Another trick is telling the victim he has dispatched expensive gifts to her and that she must pay cash to release those parcels which have been detained by the Customs. They even mailed those custom papers to the potential victim. Other cheats use business ventures, and promising the victim the position of CEO, directors, etcetera.

Those ventures would be too good to be ignored. The return of the investment would be around 50% of the capital they cough up. The local banks offer less than 2% interest per annum. The next trap is the promise of marriage. And after the agreed marriage, the tall, dark and handsome guy suddenly fell ill and his accounts have been locked by the banks for some reason. His mother or father suddenly needed thousands of dollars in order to have the operation done in a hospital.

The greedy and stupid woman would even borrow money to remit it to him. Wake up ladies. You need to weave some alertness into your daily life. There must be suitable partner around you if you care to look around? Why must the good fish be found only abroad? Do you still believe the potable water abroad tastes sweeter? Perhaps like they say: familiarity breeds contempt?

There are of course also many women cheating the men on the Internet. But these are other matters and must be presented on different occasions.

I have also received many letters offering marriages from rich widows, and also from ladies whose parents have passed away abroad and they needed my assistance to have their parents’ property released in this part of the world.

People who develop obsessive craving, fierce longings, and burning ambitions that can never be satisfied are always frustrated by longing and wanting. This sleazy and cunning guy had been cheating, deceiving, and swindling others.

The following is a true story:

This old lady owned a piece of land. Her name was clearly stated on the land title. One greedy guy, Basil Ah Lau, thought he could have that piece of land at a very cheap price. He invited the husband of the lady for a cup of coffee and talked about the old good days. The chat went on and finally the land issue cropped up. Ah Lau said he wished to buy that piece of land, at a price of 25% above the market rate. The husband Mr. Ah Chey was very impressed and interested but he had no right to sell the land. An installment payment scheme was brought up. Ah Chey would receive the payment on the day the land title was converted to the name of Basil Ah Lau. Legally, this could be done only after the final payment had been paid up. But this Basil thought the lady was not educated. So he convinced Ah Chey to bring the wife to the District Office. The old couple went there accompanied by Basil.

At the land office, the lady was asked if it was true she wanted to sell the piece of land. She confirmed it, and produced the land title for conversion, and asked for the payment on the spot. Basil did not have the lump sum on the spot. He had only few hundred dollars, which was only for the first payment. It would take him 60 months to complete the full payment.

The old lady said: “No transfer of name unless the lump sum is paid now ”.

The transaction could not be done. The couple and the cheat left the office.

Ah Lau told the couple not to sell the land to others except to him. Suspicions simmered for some time. He promised to raise the lump sum but was not able to do so.

The old lady thought that price was good if it was true. So she approached a multimillionaire and asked if he wanted to buy a piece of land for investment. That guy said he did not wish to, buy recommended her a person who might be interested. That lady went to see Ah Toh, who was actually interested.

The price was agreed and the lady said “One hand money and one hand land title”. It was not a problem for Ah Toh. He went to the bank and took out the cash. They went to the land office and the land title was handed over to the officer who processed it on the same day.

When Basil heard about the transaction, he was very jealous and went round the town spreading rumours about Ah Toh, telling others that the old lady was deceived.

The truth was that if that lady allowed Basil to have his name on the land title, with just one of the 60 installments, the whole piece of land would belong to Basil and the best lawyer on this planet could not help.

people can provide a clear and measurable benefit to the country. Does your society provide any benefit for the members? The tipping point is whether there is a better one to join elsewhere. With some callous and boastful guys, there will be lots of hot air. Don’t let them exploit you.

This attachment is Page 1 of Singapore Society of Writers magazine, when Mr. Kutty was the President. After his demise about ten years ago, Don, an Indian said he was the President. Later on, again, without any election, Maurice (a Chinese) took over as President. If you are a member of this society, please contact me via email as we need to find out why the Society of Singapore Writers (SSW) suddenly vanished. According to Mr. Kutty, there was still over $30,000.00 in the account of that society.

According to the Singapore Laws, when any non-profit organization needs to be closed up, the assets of that organization must be donated to a charity organization. The members cannot simply distribute the money, and other assets, among themselves and close up the organization. Moreover, when an organization sends its representatives to a bank to withdraw its fund, the bank officers will not know whether those officers are the genuine ones or the elected ones. The officer simply checks the names and the signatures and then release the fund. For an organization to be wrapped up, a general meeting must be held and majority of the members must agree to the intention by casting votes.

Regarding the report on SSW, there are many questions to raise:

1) When was the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) held?

2) How did Don become a President of the Society?

3) Later on, Maurice claimed himself to be the President. Was he an elected President?

4) Where are the documented records of the society now?

5) Can we have a list of all the office-bearers, if there is one?

6) Who are the existing internal auditors?

7) Who are the existing external auditors?

8) What happened to all the assets of SSW?

Another means of cheating:

There were several cases of sellers cheating the buyers at a shopping mall in Singapore. One of the cases involved a buyer who bought a hand-phone, and after paying almost 1000 US dollars, he was told to pay another over 1000 US dollars for the warranty of that phone. And the purchase could not be cancelled to have the money refunded. One guy turned to social media to rally help for that tourist, is that wrong? If he were to report to the Consumer Association, that case would take a long time to be resolved. Some authorities seem unable or unwilling to resolve the issues brought to them. Dubious business practices must be penalized. Since management cannot evict tenants, or force landlords to blacklist unethical businesses, the existing laws need to be corrected. We publish information. What others do is not our business, though we may receive lots of phone harassment at times.

Legally guilt must be conclusively proven before punishment is meted out. How many months will that be? Who will pay for the expenses for the tourists to come back and stand as witness?

There were many others who came forward to say it was wrong to publicize the cheating case on the internet. The anonymous rabble-rousers, are citizens hiding behind fictitious profiles. They support errant retailers because they are their cronies. We have to pluck up the legal loopholes that allow rogue businesses to continue operating and regain the public trust.

This greed which seizes them tenaciously, is embedded in their subconscious part of the mind, for so long that their stubbornness and tenacity grow stronger every day. Even if they have accumulated 1 000000 tons of gold in the Swiss Bank, they would still be not satisfied and would not be happy if they have not cheated or swindled for just one day. It is indeed more thuggery than anything else. The overseas Chinese are squeezed in these countries.

Those evil racists want to close down all Chinese schools. The Chinese cannot buy any land from the natives, and licenses for business are limited because the racists want more than 90% of the business to be under their own race.

The Chinese have they ways and means to make a living.

Please read how a poor Chinese earned a living. He started from a humble beginning. At the seashore, he had to compete with other buyers, because the fishermen could sell their catch to anybody. The fish he bought would be taken to the fish market and sold at a profit. So he coughed out some money to buy one outboard motor, a wooden boat and handed them over to those Malays who could be trusted. When those fishermen returned in the afternoon, they could only sell the catch to him. He built up his business from scratch, without help from the government.

Whatever he could sell on that day, he made the profit. For the leftover, he had the scales and all the organs in the stomach removed, covered the fish with salt and dried them in the hot sun on the following day. It took two days for the dried fish to be acceptable by the shopkeepers, to market those dried fish in their shops. The dried fish were exported to Singapore and Hong Kong. Then one day the shopkeeper complained that those dried fish were not able to remain in good condition for more than one year.

So this guy had to think of a way to prepare better ones in order not to lose the buyers. He consulted a student, because this student was outstanding in his studies. After some research, that student told the fishmonger to dry the fish on a wooden platform, built several feet from the ground. It was indeed a perfect method because the buyers from Singapore and Hong Kong had no more complaint. Even the Five-Star

Hotels used his dried fish as one of the ingredients for their dishes.

Then, this guy had to think of a way to earn more money. He knew the Australian Armed Forces dumped many lorries and jeeps into the sea before they went home to Australia. The jerrycans and some ammunitions which were hidden in the forests were untouched. He employed some guys to remove the jerry cans. The whole project was kept a secret because should the police find out he could be charged as a communist and be executed.

Many of his employees were good divers. They went out to the sea, lowered metal hooks at one end of the manila rope on the seabed to hook on the vehicle. At the upper end of the rope, they forced a jerrycan into the water and fastened that can when it was submerged in the water. This process was done until the vehicle had been partially raised from the seabed. They pulled the vehicle to the shore, put it on the wheels and simply pushed the vehicle out of the water. A vehicle salvaged in this manner was allowed to be registered with the existing government. They dismantled the vehicle and serviced it properly and it was running on the road, with certification from the government.

I was told they successfully salvaged one jeep, and more than ten military lorries. This guy started a construction company and eventually became a multimillionaire.

There is no need to be jealous of other races. If you wish to be rich, just work hard like the Chinese do.

you don’t have to spit on…

When you go on board a lonely club

It’s like going to a biggest buffet

ever held in Singapura

There are hundreds of delicious courses

from all over the world

Please take your plate and choose the delicacies

you so dearly love

Whatever you find repulsive

you don’t have to spit on them

Just enjoy eating what you want

and then go off quietly

But be thankful to those who made

this occasion possible

In some parts of the world,

you don’t enjoy this sort of peace

Your two balls can be blown off

at any time of the day

Do I need to elaborate?

You may hang on and look around

for the potential partner

you always wish right inside your heart

Find an excuse, talk to her

pull out your business card and offer it to her

It doesn’t matter if she leaves it

on the table or dumps it

into the closest dustbin

because by then you would have

learned something new

In Singapura, we men are still the hunters!

In the process of hunting,

in this jungle of love

It’s natural a few would be injured

We’re very lucky

the casualty rate is still negligible.

But the wounds are extremely painful

maybe more painful than

a broken head, arm or leg ?

The weak ones killed themselves.

the somehow stronger ones still go mad

the cowards never fall in love !

because they’re forever kiasu.

The above was the comment from the

***

The truth was

there were working ghosts

on board the rig.

Each worker on board has a brass left at the entrance

to the rig

But there were more brasses than workers!

The poor French paid for the workers who did not

turn up to work!

***

For some reason,

the client kept quiet for some time

A day came when the client could not

tolerate it any more

Each day two officers were stationed

at the entrance and exit

The contractors were paid for only

the number of workers who came in to work

***

This hurt the swindler intensely

He could not stand it any more

He blamed the China-men

For stealing the expensive valves,

the cheap piping gaskets, the bolts and nuts,

the paper cups, sugar, coffee

toilet papers, and so on.

Many China-men were removed from the rig

His own brothers were recruited

This time there was no more China-men

to be the scapegoats,

The company engineers had to work

for the projects which had been paid

to the main contractor,

The main con saved millions of dollars

Those engineers who refused

would be terminated

because he had a big brother in

the HR

The truth was revealed

The big brother had to leave

the manager too had to leave

***

So my friends

Beware, your enemies

may come from the most unexpected corner

Among your own brothers!

***

The same trick was done somewhere else

This time a few workers were given

Many cards to scan

They scanned on-behalf

of those who were working in other companies

Company A paid for these working Ghosts

The taking from these Ghosts would be shared

Among the managers, superintendents etc

***

Some employers thought they were smart

They placed machines that scanned the

little fingers

of the workers when they came in to work

and when they knock off for the day

Not knowing that Mr. A can come in

to scan the finger in the morning

goes to work for another company

on temporary basis

and return to scan his

little finger again

at 10.00 pm !

***

You may move to

the next company and continue your

fantastic tricks

How many times can you move?

How long can you cheat?

Isn’t honesty still

the best policy ?

***

Envy and rancor are destroying you every day

Coupled with greed,

the money you cheat

won’t be enough to buy the medicines

you shall need !

cheating your company

by cooking noodles in the engineering office

and charge two hours O/T

or sweet talk about passports to heaven

at MRTs, Bus Stops and the Malls

so that more people come to your place

dropping in lots of gold coins

for you to siphon half of them

The priest knows nothing of it

He doesn’t want to be seen counting the coins

You won’t be a quitter

You can still remit portions of your earning to Posb Bank

Find faults, with them, even if these people

the sky is white

He even insulted me for hanging

red silk on my windows

He said white would be more appropriate!

Do you still want to argue with this five year old bugger?

Listen to the sermon of the kiasu

which he had repeated thousands of times

in anticipation that the fools will be dropping in

and thus the gold coins too will be rolling in

for him to visit Geylang and Keong Saik

His gods which are almighty

must be deaf and dumb

Why did they allow

four planes to cause

much damages in the U.S.?

The third plane didn’t hit the nuclear plant

The Ta Pei Kong at Pennsylvania must be great

for risking his life

to save the plant

Why didn’t Osama attack Shanghai?

Blame it on the kiasus

It’s the best Chinese restaurant in the city

There’ll be 800 people having breakfasts

all at the same time

This restaurant doesn’t accept credit card

suddenly you have no money to pay

They said: OK, you pay the service charge of $60

in addition to the food you had consumed

Some foreigners also were presented with

dishes they never ordered

Please don’t laugh

they charge these to the bill!

You may reject these

if you have not yet eaten them

or you are sure your first date

won’t misunderstand your rejection

What ever you reject

they bring them back to the kitchen

The next guy will be given the same disk

after they have been warmed

I was unlucky to sit next table to this strange guy

he put a folded copy of the morning post

on the chair before he sat down

The last guy left this chair less than ten seconds ago

This strange creature believes

whatever diseases the last guy has

will be transmitted to him

if he sits on the chair when it’s still warm

He also took another chair

for his right foot

After the meal he opened

his big mouth to remove the food

sticking between his poorly aligned teeth

Mind you, he could prise out the food particle

with a bamboo toothpick and let the food

shoot four to five feet

in front of him

I quickly covered my Chinese tea with my

cotton handkerchief

Should I tell this guy that he shouldn’t step on two boats?

that he must put his two hands over his mouth

when he wants to cough?

I ignored him

because in this city

fists fighting is still very common

Why waste time with this sort of people

when many of the degree holders in my country

are just the same?

This place was also extremely noisy

which is very common

when Japanese, Chinese or Indians are there

Is it our culture to talk so loud

that all the 800 people in the hall must know

we are there?

You eat with chop sticks

The electorate will always base their choice on emotion. The race, religions and social standing carry more weight than anything else. I am talking about the average guy on the street, which is where the majority of them are found. As we can see, during the past 62 years, politicians from many parts of the world were able to win one election after another even though the governments they came out with were corrupt, evil and inefficient. It is an open secret that many of these politicians each has billions of dollars hidden in Swiss Banks.

The unfulfilled promises of the former election manifestos were never to be taken care of again. The worse thing is that these corrupt, evil and ferocious politicians could simply point the crooked finger to accuse another race and win lots and lots of votes from his own race. The best examples are politicians who point the fingers to USA, China etc for the problems under their own nose. They could simply say our religion is at stake and therefore they must win the election. The ostensible goal of these politicians is to clean up corruption within their own government but this is just another show to win the voters over.

In a world where greed, hatred and delusion exist, it is indeed very easy to create political hay. Who is there to censure these corrupt politicians? In many countries, the judges are there at the pleasure of the Prime Ministers. One neurotic even suggested that crude oil must be used as weapons to fight the foreign powers, not realizing that these foreigners can also use the potatoes to fight back. Can we drink the crude oils?

Does your government provide a clear and measurable benefit to the country? Tension is flaring in Tibet and Xinjiang and the people are also protesting. Are you sure the integrationists are not involved? These integrationists want to install a god-fearing regime? Hate crime became family affair of these politicians. Political schism is common and they emotionally manipulate other races. They are also good in inciting bigotry. They possess great talent for corruption and racial segregation.

Why is corruption so prevalent? Why are they having multiple wives? They must be sex obsessed. We are tired of their loud and ferocious squawking. I have great respect for people who eat, sleep, and speak little.

What is so deer and true to you may be like the contents of the cesspit to others. You may be just like a worm wriggling in a cesspool and on the excrement. Whatever are attractive and delightful to the flies and filth-eating insects, are of no interest to us. Drawn by the smell, they scramble for their delicacies.

Many of those so interested to convert others are also involved cases of cheating, deceiving, and swindling. A true religion is like a tree with its roots, branches, and leaves well-nourished. It will sooner or later bear fruits.

Craving keeps addicts addicted and the madness for money and power keeps these politicians intoxicated. Don’t allow yourselves to be abused and brainwashed by these sleazy politicians.

Ancient Religion?
