Divorcing the Devil

I'm thrilled to announce that my third novel, Divorcing the Devil, is now available for pre-sale orders. Pre-sales are a very important way for publishers and buyers to estimate interest in a title, and these days, shelf space is extremely limited, especially with so many talented authors.

So, if you would, please take a moment to order Divorcing the Devil now. Your…

Publishing: How to Find Placement in Independent and Chain Bookstores

It is up to the author to choose a publisher who can produce a product that will attract the attention of bookstore owners.

When making the decision on which book to carry on their shelves, owners focus on the five criteria.

1. A…

The umbrella came in handy...inside the house.

Okay, most of you know me. I’m goofy and so very “sanguine” (never ever worried about details. Instead, I look for any chance to have fun). But, sometimes that’s not a good thing. This past weekend a dear friend and I dashed off to a gorgeous condo on the water near our home in Florida. The purpose was to focus intensely on a ministry called “The Significant Woman” (brand new and awesomely impacting…

Book Clubs, Blubber & Bannock

Last night I had the pleasure of attending a book club meeting in Edmonton. The ladies had selected Whale Song to read. Karen, the host, didn't tell her friends that the author was going to be there until I got there. I thought that was kind of fun. All of the gals were so welcoming.

When they talked about Whale Song, I heard comments like "I couldn't put it down" and "I loved it". It's hard to describe how rewarding it feels to hear these things. But even more, I got the reaction…

10 Essential Questions to Ask Your Target Market

"My target market is everybody." Is this statement true for your business? If so, how is that working for you? My guess would be that it's not working at all. I shudder when a client tells me that their target market is everyone. When you target everyone, it's too hard to focus on anyone and you attract no one.

One of the most terrifying decisions an online business owner makes is the decision to refine and define their target market. Why? Generally…

Book Sales are Up and Independents are Opening

According to the American Booksellers Association, for the fifth consecutive month, retail sales at bookstores exceeded last year's results.

Preliminary figures recently released by the Bureau of the Census show an increase in bookstore sales in November 2007 of 7.5 percent compared to November 2006. More good news is that the American Booksellers Association welcomed 115 new bookstores…
