The Obama administration is very upset that radio superstar and conservative giant Rush Limbaugh took several days of headlines away from the president while they were vacation in the same state. It was leaked that Obama's people have initiated a poll to determine what medical emergency the president could claim for himself in order to regain the news headlines from Hawaii and elicit the most voter sympathy. Early reports are the medical conditions under consideration are; stubbed toe,…

A Promise Kept by Elise Crawford begins with a chapter called Ground Zero. Crawford uses vivid description, peppered with actual news clips, photos, and details from witnesses, emergency crews and survivors to tell the story of Seattle Metro bus operator, Mark McLaughlin, who was shot and killed by a transit rider on November 27, 1998. Crawford details how Mark wrestled the man for control and how the 72 foot bus, along with 32…

20 YEARS IN SWITZERLAND
The weekend of the 9th May 2008 saw the Partying, celebrating, thanksgiving and just great fun as the Tamil churches in Switzerland celebrated their 20 years existence.
From very small beginning 20 years previously, as refugees began to enter Switzerland away from the continuing war in Sri Lanka. By this time there was already a church operating in France, so they need to celebrate too.
Pauline and Adrian reminisced about those small…

Word Stems
When we say we are writers, what do we mean? For that matter what are words? We may say they are a collection of letters grouped in cohesive form that convey a meaning.
But, that only tells us the obvious.
Letters and the words that result from the use of them are more. They are guttural outcries, grunts and groans - controlled inhalations / exhalations of life-sustaining air manipulated by the throat, tongue and lips that we have all agreed…

I finally picked up Eliza Earsman's Days of Elijah (Revised): A True Story and began reading, not knowing at all what to expect. The author is a storyteller, and a good one at that.
I was quickly drawn into the pages and could follow along because I have studied some of her themes in the past. Her work is fascinating and dark, at times.
It is a good read and a quick read. Eliza Earsman helps the reader along by providing a glossary and, if anything, leaves readers wanting…

Did you get the answer to this question immediately? Horace said, “Life is largely a matter of expectations.” Expectations have a lot to do with the one thing you can control.
There is one thing in life you have absolute control over: Your attitude.
An excellent quote to remember is, “Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional” (Bruce Schneider, Founder/Director of iPEC). A fact of life is that pain visits all of us at one time or another. What we choose to do with it…

There was an interesting article in the local daily, The Post Star, Glens Falls, NY.
The story was about a book store in southern VT, The Northshire Bookstore, Manchester.
Supposedly, this is one of Stephen King's favorite independents.
Anyway, the store is now into POD publishing with a unit called The Espresso Book Machine.
I checked them out and their prices are higher than I pay at Lulu but I mention it because it certainly points out how POD is becoming a major…

This is late news. However, my thriller, River Bones, received an Honorable Mention in the Mystery/Thriller category of the 2009 Eric Hoffer Book Awards. Though I wished it could have gone higher, as all writers wish, just making it into the top 10% of all books submitted is a real achievement. That is, River Bones beat out all romance, sci-fi, fantasy, and other genre of books in the Commercial Fiction category. I'm happy. I'm on the right track with my writing.

Advertisers know the best way to promote a product is through word of mouth, so it becomes their--our challenge as authors to find ways to foster that word of mouth process. Since my first novel,
MISSING, was released in October, I've learned one of the best ways to do this is to establish connections with people. When I say "connections," I don't mean we need to try to rub shoulders--or…
