A Personalized Relationship for a Perfect Prescription

Pharmacogenomics or personalized medicine is based on the concept of using an individual’s genetic profile to determine the best treatment regimen for them. This is facilitated by a prediction of the benefits that individual is likely to obtain from that particular regimen. This prediction takes into account the potential side effects of the treatment as well. Conventional drugs are tested on large population groups from which the average response is reported and recorded. Personalized…

Finding reviews, sales and publicity.

January 17, 2015

I’m in the process of re-publishing seven of my titles which up until now have been published under the name of Acclaimed Books Ltd. The reason is simple: I want to manage my own titles now that me and my wife have settled back in UK. One of the problems with changing the name of the publisher — in this case from AB.c to Michael Parker — is that any reviews accumulated can be lost unless you keep the same ISBN number and don’t change the edition number. I learned the…

Subscription Services for Self-Published Authors

Originally posted on Publishing...and Other Forms of Insanity.

Subscription services are often overlooked by self-published authors. The reason for the oversight is simple: authors tend to focus on sales rather than borrows. There aren't many…

The Way of ThoseThugs

When little kids are bragging about their almighty fathers, I don’t want to be involved. But I have met others who bragged on their fat salary. Club promoters, who pretended to be writers’ society members, were there to bring beautiful women to exclusive parties. Their club attracts big spending clients from among the young global elite, who are willing to spend thousands of…

Poem: Continue to Be Still

O Lord, it’s morning; I’m here,

seeking Your face and guidance;

hear the echoing words of my heart;

they’re not some human contrivance

to guilt You into honoring Your Word;

I know that you’re not a lying Man,

with false, hollow promises that tease.

Living my life with these empty hands

raised unto You alone, I ache and yearn

for the sound, of Your quiet voice-

that gently soothes my Christian soul.

Despite today’s harshness, I…

Garbage Mountain

I used to be a “neat freak” – maybe not on the level of antiseptic obsession – but I’ve always I liked order over chaos.  As time and kids have molded me – I have learned to accept a certain level of untidiness. But garbage still bothers me. Garbage is that stuff that is completely unusable – even by the slugs and ants of the world.  When nature’s cleaners can’t handle the mess we’ve made – we’re in trouble.

We live in the countryside so we have a few alternatives that city…

Book Review: ‘The Blackwell Family Secret: The Guardians of Sin’ by Jonathan L. Ferrara

The Blackwell Family Secret: The Guardians of Sin is book 1 in Jonathan L. Ferrara’s YA urban fantasy series. I must say this was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and I can’t wait to read the sequel.

After his parents are killed by a demon, sixteen-year-old Nicholas Blackwell is put under the protection of the Vatican and sent to a boarding school surrounded by a deep…

Hiding Behind Our Bodies

I recently read an excerpt from a famous person’s blog which stated that she had never been comfortable with her body and had resorted to plastic surgery to make herself more attractive.  I don’t name the celebrity simply because the story is all to familiar.  I know of countless individuals who aren’t famous and feel the need to “change” something to make themselves more attractive. Is that a problem?  The cosmetic industry might not think so. Nor any industry built around our insecurities…
