Epiphany of the Divine

Epiphany used to conjure up images of the three Wise-Men who came from the east to honor the infant Christ as Lord and King. Later, as men and traditions waxed and waned, it came to simply mean a highlight – a sudden and profound understanding. The divine intervention aspect was shrouded by a modern dedication to purely human experiences.

For me, there are no purely…

Marketing Your Books

Indie authors can give themselves the greatest opportunity to sell more books if they create interest long before the book is in print. By giving focus to how you’re going to promote and market your book before it is out there in the world will assist you to plan and organise your marketing campaign for optimal sales.

Usually, self-published authors seek out reliable book reviews and/or endorsements as a means to market their book and persuade readers to buy it. This is a great…

Avenue of the Dead - Brian L. Porter, Author

Avenue of the Dead - Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat; Think With Your Taste Buds, A Book and A Dish

The remaining hours of that first day of the investigation proved as frustrating as they did fruitless for the two detectives.  Little progress was made by any of those involved in the investigation.  A painstaking search…

Writing Memoir and Fiction

Recently, I have been thinking a lot about the demands of writing memoir versus writing fiction, because as you see from my website I do both. Goodreads has a number of authors' discussion groups on this and I have been contributing to them here and there.

Ultimately, my view is that memoir blends into fiction. There is no such thing as pure objectivity. What the author of memoir has to do though - as does the author of fiction - is make sure his or her facts are…

The Dark Man by Stephen E. Crockett

A real page turner.

Can where we live affect the person we become? Do such things as dark forces and evil presences exist, and can they remain patiently at a place for a long time, waiting for…

Teresa's War, by Margaret J Carr

I wrote my first book, an adventure story, at 12 when recovering from a childhood illness. After leaving school I trained in cosmetics and skin care until becoming the chief perfumery and cosmetic buyer for a department store. As a wife and mother I wrote the odd article or short story for magazines but it wasn’t until the 1980’s I returned to writing fulltime and have now completed over twenty fiction novels, ranging from murder mystery series to a teen fantasy trilogy and historical family…

This book has so touched me. I really feel our Heavenly father is trying to talk to me. It's a daily devotional which makes you look at different scriptures, too. Then you can write a small journal entry. What is God trying to tell you? Have you been hearing His still voice? Talk…

The Blessings of Fiat

As a child growing up I had a tendency to get things mixed up.  For a while, I actually thought that “The pursuit of happiness” was one of the Ten Commandments.  It was a revelation to realize that I was not commanded to pursue happiness.  In fact, as I got older and began to read and re-read scripture, I discovered a rather contrary expectation – that God wants us to offer ourselves to Him freely, as He offers Himself freely to us.

I can’t think of a better model for this approach to…
