Remember when all anyone talked about was Feng Shui? It seems to have died down a little, but we were just remded of these great emails we used to get in our inbox from a Feng Shui expert. In hindsight we realize they have something in common with The Cure.

It's almost unheard of these days in publishing for an author to get a high five-figure book advance, let alone six figures.
It's difficult even to get any literary agent to take on your book, let alone one of the top literary agents in the country.
Yet one author managed to do both.
On Thursday, I'm going to grill this author, Noah St. John, on how he did this.
And YOU also get a chance to…

I signed up for a short story writing class with "Gotham Writers" in Manhattan which will begin in mid-April, so I've decided to begin flexing my short story writing muscles.
I began writing a new story yesterday and it's been tough going. I'm really just getting back into writing after a long hiatus. I've been thinking increasingly about it over the past year based on the work I'm doing with a friend - I'm helping him edit his novel.
Meanwhile, I've been 'successfully'…

As I finished writing a colleague privately, I realized this may be helpful for some of you. Forgive me for all the self-promotion as I shared my ideas and comparisons. When people explain things to me I like something tangible to look at!

O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! (Psalm 8:9)
Your name should be feared and reverenced by all who breath your name is more than words.
For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone. Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. (Psalm 86:10-11)
For what other name could men call on in times of distress to bring them comfort? Only your…

Talk about diminishing venues to speak and sign, difficulty getting book sales and name recognition makes me wonder--how far out of the box are you willing to think?
I live in a small town, pop. 23,000 (Lemoore). Ten miles away is a larger town (Hanford). Forty miles away is the Big City (Fresno).
I lived in the Big City over 25 years and was never able to get a signing or even a book launch. The local newspaper ignores local authors in favor of canned wire reviews of…
