Growing with Joe is the story of a courageous woman who has been forced to deal with the diagnosis of CP with her young son. In it the author describes her fears and feelings of this disorder from denial to anger to acceptance. The reader can easily see how this affected not just the author but her entire family. Every day was a struggle with trying to get her son to be as normal as possible and finally coming to terms with his speciality no matter what and being the best parent she…

Big time! Let me tell you how. I just got a call from my daughter-in-law. She and my son are miserably sick (probably the yucky bug that’s on the prowl).
"Do you think we can come over so you can watch the baby?"
When my daughter asked that question, my heart just about jumped through my throat with delight. (That’s a symptom of a being first time grandmother). Of course I agreed.
And once I hung up the phone, my mind went to fast mode: re-arranging my plans for the…

In a recent Publisher’s Weekly article, the notion of writers reviewing one another’s books, or supporting each other was dealt with as a negative thing. So when the good folks at
Murder by 4 asked me to do a guest blog, I knew I had to write a counter piece on the value of writers supporting one another. The crux of the blog is that “without the support and community of like-minded authors, there’s…

My website www.michellekane.com is finally back up! Just an FYI if anyone is looking for a web designer/host do not use the company Boston Dedicated. The owner is a shady con artist who tried to extort money from me and shut down my site because I didn't pay him an exorbitant amount of $$$ to buy my domain name from him...my own name!
After many frustrating months and not paying one cent to an extortionist, I now own my domain name and my site is back up! yay me! Maybe nice guys don't…

I never considered myself a gambler. I've never played cards for money, never placed a bet, never bought a lottery ticket (except to support some school project, considering the money spent as a donation). So, what do I do? I take the biggest gamble in my life - start a publishing company. It's not a subsidy company or a authors-pay-for-umpteen-million-copies-up-front company. We pay royalties and edit everything and expect high quality books.
If I could get some gamblers to take a…

After a five-year $27 million study, the IJC (International Joint Commission), governing body of the St Lawrence Seaway, which extends from Montreal as far west as the Welland Canal connecting Lakes Ontario and Erie, will next month propose changes in the the rate of discharge from Lake Ontario.
Three possible courses of action are seen: leave things pretty much the same; increase the overall volume of outflow; or tweak the current program. A fourth possibility, reduce total outflow,…

You expose yourself little by little with words.
I'm not talking about sex scenes, either. Even without conscious effort, a writer's unique take on the world comes out in our stories. There is no hiding. It'll happen even if you try not to let it.
So if you want a writing career, the sooner you get used to the idea that you're going to put yourself out there for folk to slice and dice, the better off you'll be. To that end, let me suggest one of the best ways to get used…
