Welcome to my blog!

Hello everyone, my name is Nicole Sloan. I am a new writer. I am in the process of writing my first fantasy novel. I am so excited.  I always dreamed of writing but just never sat down and wrote. So I am beginning my journey now. I really hope to meet new people and make new friends.  I hope everyone is having a great weekend.  Thanks for reading, :)

The sacrifice

Spring is here and once again the oncoming nice weather will test my resolve to finish my latest novel. I find it especially difficult to keep focus when it’s a beautiful, sunny seventy-degree day outside. But as an artist I must ignore the temptation to enjoy the outside. When I am working on a first draft (as I’m doing now) I find that I can only concentrate on creating original material when I’m sitting at my desk. Something about that particular space and mindset unlocks my…

Poem: Steps of Faith

Have you begun an exciting, new journey,

from stepping in a new direction of faith?

Have you found your way out of the wilderness?

Remember your covering of Christ’s righteousness.

For you’ve been given ample opportunities…

to find your identity within His Kingdom.

Have you figured out by logic and reason,

how to enjoy spiritual fruits of a new season?

The secret is to spend quality time with The Word

and feed your…

The 2 Biggest Reasons to Self Publish Your Novel —From a Writer's Perspective

As a both a full time and a just-for-a-hobby writer, I find the entire of concept of self publishing most intriguing. I wouldn't say I'm the kind of writer that can stay committed to writing a novel for a year or more. I'm the type that's quite happy churning out several blogs and magazine content every day, while adding precious paragraphs to a novel I've been trying to write for a year whenever I feel the…

Olivia's Gift - Nancy Carabio Belanger, Author

Olivia’s Gift – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat; Think With Your Taste Buds; A Book and A Dish
“He set before me a book of nature; I understood how all the flowers He has created are beautiful, how the splendor of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not take away from the perfume of the little violet or the…

Haven’t You Gone the Ebook Way Yet?

Which book did you read lately? ‘Is it a paperback or a hardback?,’ is the question you usually ask. But, this trend is outdated. Most people prefer reading an ebook nowadays.

Though the era of actual books hasn’t died out completely and will never do so, ebooks have gained much prominence in people’s lives today. Ebooks are electronic (usually word or PDF) versions of actual paper books. The content is the same. The look is the same, but the feel is different. You don’t have to turn…

Birthday Boy

It’s a special day today because it’s my birthday: 72 years old and (hopefully) still going strong. Birthdays are special to youngsters but the wonder disappears as you get older. Then as you reach the autumn of your years they become important again. Perhaps it means I’m like a kid because it’s my day today. We have some friends coming round this afternoon for a chat, a drink and to bring me a little gift. When we were younger our friends would probably have met me down the pub and we would…

Lunch with David Brin

Prima Donnas? Not!

At various times in my life, I've had occasion to deal with people famous in their fields, either writers or musicians, and I've been struck by how down-to-earth, helpful, and friendly they are. They're the sort of people, interesting and interested, whom you want to know better.…

Taking pause

As a prolific writer, I find it hard to take even one day off of working on my craft. In my mind, a day spent not writing is an unfinished day, as if I’d skipped exercising or went to bed without having dinner. But every now and then the unpredictability of life pops in and you have to take time to pause.

This happened to me recently as a family member was suddenly admitted to the hospital. After a long, unproductive week of experiencing torturous writer’s block, I had…
