Poem: Come, See This Man

It started out, as an ordinary day,

with a daily trip… to the local well;

without much expectation, I met a Man

from a small town, located in Israel.

Come, see this Man…

Well, I must admit, He was the first

to observe me as a Child of Abraham;

knocking down my personal defenses

was Christ, the Son of the Great I Am.

Come, see this Man…

He spoke with both grace and intimacy,

and soon I was fully revealed before Him;

He demonstrated…

Poem: Comfort Zone

O my Lord, long ago I accepted the idea

of being open and accepting of change.

My resistance was ultimately futile, when…

Salvation caused my life to be rearranged.

For my perspective was spiritually altered

and my heart was subtly humbled by You;

when ready, I sought after Your Kingdom,

knowing that I would remain in Your view.

Know that there can be joy in serving others,

which is complemented with learning opportunities;

depths of…

Okay results

Well, the bookgorilla promotion for SILENT INVASION didn’t go as well as it had for DROP OUT, but I still got down to the 5,000 rank on Amazon. I’ve come to believe that the majority of book buyers who purchase a book because of an ad on a website are older readers compared to the middle-grade/YA readers. I’ve always done fairly well on promotions for my thrillers, but my other genres seem to mostly sell by word-of-word.

Top 5 Online Resources for Science Fiction Writers

Of all the fiction genres, sci-fi – aka speculative fiction - stands as the one least likely to inspire a casual encounter. Sci-fi buffs are die-hards. That’s because sci-fi authors are required not just to do world-building, but to do universe-building. That’s real escapism.

Traditionally, a background in science has been virtually mandatory for…

Military Horror/Thriller: KHOST, by Vincent Hobbes

I was doubtful when I picked up Khost for review. I’d never read a military horror novel before, though I’ve always been a big fan of the first two Alien movies. The Alien movies are military science fiction, so I thought that perhaps the two genres would be similar. They were.

Well, as it turned out, I had no reason to be…

Dead Man Talking - T. M. Simmons, Author

Dead Man Talking – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat; Think With Your Taste Buds; A Book and A Dish
A second later Katy continued with a resigned sigh, “He says his death was a murder, but not deliberate murder. That he can’t find eternal rest until the deed is exposed.” That got to me. The ghost must have known it…

The Ups and Downs of My Book World

Life is full of little surprises, and none of us are immune to them. My last post included a piece about a young, lady writer I joining Acclaimed Books and hoping to publish a collection of quotes that made people happy. I had passed on a recollection of something that had made me happy and included in that was a reference to my church here in Torrevieja. I subsequently learned that any reference to God, church or religion of any sort was not welcome, and would be edited out of any quotes…

Book Reviews...

When you go to a purchase site for books, are the reviews important to you?

Is the review what determines whether or not you will buy a book?

Does it seem like all the reviewers lately are just friends of the author who have left reviews?

All of these are important questions when asking yourself if it is important to promote your book via book reviews.  Amazon seems to be the place where most of the reviews are…

You're a Small Business With One Product . . . Your Book

Think of your book as a product that has to be sold. Think of yourself as an entrepreneur with one product. Then think of others who are good at their craft and modify your sentence using any of the following choices.

"I had no clue that when you become an Author, (quilter, carpenter, musician, massage therapist,lawyer, hair stylist, artist) you have to be a marketing expert." Every entrepreneur has to be a marketing expert or you will not sell any of…

To not write - BookGorilla results

I’m back from vacation and for the first time that I can remember I got absolutely no writing done. I always vacation in the Florida Keys and I always spend many hours sitting by the water creating, but this time I didn’t. Why?

I used to be obsessed with hitting the big-time with my books. I dreamed that I’d be that one percent of one percent of writers who actually earn a living from their craft. I spent years sitting inside writing when the…
