What Makes for a Persuasive Title I Grant Proposal?

Writing a successful grant proposal for Title 1, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act is about as difficult as keeping a handle on all of its “also known as” names. Instead of remembering, Education for the Disadvantaged-Grants to Local Education Agencies or Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged or Title 1 ESEA, most educators just keep it simple, calling it, Title 1. The purpose of Title 1 is to provide financial assistance to states and their various…

Christmas Already?

It's never too early to start planning for the holidays, right?

I had to get a head start on this one. December 10, 2016 will be the 5th anniversary of Authors in the Park and we will be celebrating in style with the "Christmas Book-tacular"

What is Authors in the Park (AIP)?

It's a local event for local authors. Basically, its a way to promote the little guys (like me). Past events have featured local authors, new break-out writers,…

Letters from the Civil War: Felix Voltz (May 20, 1865) http://bit.ly/1QlnV3q

Felix Voltz was 18 years old (possibly younger) when he ran away from home on January 30, 1865 to enlist (to his family's dismay). He mustered out with the company on July 1, 1865, at Arlington Heights, Virginia, and served as a drummer in the 187th Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry for five months.

Felix wrote letters to his family in Elmira, New York, which describes the rigors of Union Army life from February through June 1865. The letters are held in the Special Collections… Continue

Puppies and Projects

April 16th. 2016

Two things happened this weekend which will help to re-order my life. Did I say ‘help’? We picked up our eight week old puppy, Tuppence, today and we are now experiencing a minor, soon to be major, disruption. At the moment she is fast asleep in a cardboard box. No, we didn’t force her to go in the box; she chose to do this herself despite the lovely soft bed we bought, the blankets in her cage where we thought she would feel safe, and the lap my…

Blow your mind freebie!

When I first began writing IMAGINATION, I envisioned a book which would propel readers beyond the norm and into realms where the utterly unbelievable was possible. I wanted to blow their minds! Fascinated by the physical and psychological endurance experienced by POW’s during times of war, I knew prolonged periods of isolation and injury invoked defense mechanisms of the mind. Part of this defense is to escape inside one’s own thoughts and memories. Tiniest details of imaginary worlds become…

The Peaks and Valleys of Life

Life is filled with peaks and valleys. It is filled with ups and downs. Good times and bad times. Whether you are dealing with physical or mental pain, there are times when you can joke around and laugh despite everything, and there are times when you simply feel like crying and you just had enough of it. Life will not always be on the upswing. So, enjoy the peaks whenever you can, and learn to appreciate them. During down times, you should also remember that those dark days would…
