As a writer, words interest me. I came across one yesterday on one of the author forums I use. The word is “Pantser”. No, me neither. Anyway, the word appeared in response to a post about the author Lee Child declaring that he doesn’t plan his books; they just happen. Whatever sentence he writes, he isn’t sure how the next line will develop, something like that. Sounds like fun, but I don’t believe it is strictly true; Lee Child has a wealth of…

Born on February 13, 1847, Hamilton Wetherby was just 15 years old when he mustered into the US army on August 20, 1862, and became a drummer boy for the 111 Regiment, New York State Volunteers, Company C. Like many other young boys who seek to join the army, Hamilton lied about his age so he can serve with his brothers and cousins. Hamilton was promoted to private before he was killed in action on May 6, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia. He was originally buried at Cook’s…

Nine letters that Thomas wrote during the Civil War were preserved and sent to Bowling Green State University. The letters dating between April 8, 1862 and April 3, 1864 were written to the Vance family by Thomas while he was serving with Company I, 69th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
Below are Thomas’ letters dated September 28, 1863 – April 3, 1864. The September 28, 1863 letter was written after the Battle of Chickamauga (the 69th was primarily employed as a train guard during battle as…

This book is just such compelling reading, I just could not put it down.
We all have been victims of haughty secretaries, the ones who guard their boss better than the most highly trained Rottweiler. Treat him like he is God, and they are the handmaiden honoured to be in his presence – when he needs something.
Perhaps you have been there, got the tee-shirt as…

What do you think of when you hear the words second hand goods. When I read those words, I thought of days gone by when clothes were hand me downs from child to child in a family. These days maybe second hand goods are the same as someone's junk is someone else's treasures like the items found at a garage sale or a yard sale. How about Thrift Shops that sell gently used clothing? All that logic seemed reasonable to me.
While researching about the Amish I found the mention of second…

I’m late this week, simply because of too much to do. Went to a wedding on Saturday, which interfered with my usual Saturday treat of watching football. Sunday was a visit from our grand-daughter, Gemma (lovely), and then a trip across to see our puppy, Tuppence. Such a busy life I lead! Blogging took a back seat for a while. I have kept an eye on my book sales and rankings, and can now see the tail end of the BookBub promotion results. I’m really…

When each of us, reach another,
a soul can be eternally saved;
the path has been laid out and
you must be courageously brave!
Are you willing to die to self?
Can you access the mind of Christ?
Do others see that you live for Him?
Do you have… His everlasting Life?
Better than a sermon on your lips,
is a contented spirit of humility;
in Life’s brokenness, you can shine
with His Light and vulnerability.
Christianity isn’t for…

Know what an opportunity looks like? Most people don’t. Opportunities often come and go without us knowing. The problem is, we don’t immediately see opportunities for what they are. There are no blatant signs telling us “Hey! Big opportunity here!” We have to discern it ourselves. To be able to see an opportunity when it comes makes a big difference in the path we take in life. http://bit.ly/1Rykc7M
