Patti J. Smith has just launched a new Mystery/Suspense series: "Grave Obsessions"!

He noticed a strong odor as he moved the curtains to look inside. A vile liquid surged up his throat and spilled out on the grass. He grabbed his cell phone and called…

Like a Snowball Rolling Down Hill

I remember being so naive. My wife, due to a rising career in human resources, wanted me to stay home and write instead of going back to my construction estimating job. Since writing has always been my passion, ditching the work-only-for-the-paycheck model of life for one more fulfilling was a no-brainer.

So I started writing my first book, a half-baked murder mystery from the point of view of the killer. And it was TERRIBLE.

Still, I had this notion that any book written would…

Back to My Roots

There was joy in the Parker household last week because I have started growing eyebrows and a moustache. For new readers to my blog I must explain that this isn’t because I am searching for a new look, but because my chemo sessions finished seven weeks ago and the hair is beginning to return. It’s like the first shoots of spring. Pat is already looking at a long one she can see, but I’ve told her there will be no trimming until I decide. For the moment I’m enjoying the sight of hair and not…

Story behind the story.

People often ask where did you find the time to write a novel. The answer to that question is founded in the fact that life isn't fair.

I think this reality was as daunting to me then as it is to my teenager today. As a young consultant do we ever work less than a 70 hour week? No, because the professional services manager doesn't want to bother the sales team with a change order to extended the scope of work. And as a young consultant we have no clue that the process even exists? At…

Look Beyond The Clouds

For me, sunrises have always been special. They signify the beginning of a new day bringing with it a sense of calm. I use to think it was to help me remember the numerous fishing trips with my grandparents when I was a youth.  As I have grown older, they’ve become a peaceful time to reflect on the prior day, and a time to plan for the day ahead. Never though, until this past year, did I actually take the time to truly understand that these were signs from the Creator, and reminders of his…

Freedom of Religion

Every homeowner knows that one of the most important attributes of a good home is one that has a strong base. Certainly one would not purchase a home that had a weakened or damaged foundation unless they were in the business of fixing/repairing them.

Following the aftermath of a major storm such as an earthquake, flood, or hurricane, one of the most important questions that face a homeowner is damage, especially any done to the walls, floors, or cracks in the…

EXCERPT FROM MY BOOK DAILY REMINDERS

AVAILABLE ON AMAZON.COM(details on free kindle version)

Days after my discharge from the hospital my father told me that I had been at deaths door, and the reason the door was closed was because the Good Lord wasn’t finished with me and that I still had work he needed me to do.

I’ve yet to recognize exactly what work it is that the Lord wanted me to do. I may never know. Perhaps it was becoming a mentor to a couple of teenagers one summer as…

Poem: Empty Places

What is the full depth of my inner soul?

How far does it fall short of infinity,

given the known limits of my being human?

Can all of the crevices, cracks, fissures,

scissures and abyss of the empty places

in my soul be filled when I desire Your Presence

to consume every void of my existence?

While complaining, gossiping, and rage

can grieve Your Holy Spirit, I’m only posing

these questions… to expand my understanding.

I’m thankful that You…
