Future is now

As I watch the price of ereaders drop, I feel the excitement of a bright future for indie authors much the way musicians must have felt when the first Sony Walkman came into existence (I know I’m showing my age). Readers can now take thousands of books with them anywhere they go; on vacation, in a plane, in a car. And now with Nook and Kindle introducing the backlight, people can read in bed while their significant other sleeps with the lights out. Just a few short years ago, seeing someone…

My Centerville Iowa Road Trip

A week ago last Friday was cool, sunny and spring like - the perfect day to go for a day long outing. My husband and I picked up my aunt in Belle Plaine, Iowa and went on a two hour drive south of us to Centerville, Iowa to visit another aunt. We haven’t made that trip nearly often enough in the last few years. Two hours passes fast when we’re talking all the way. My husband has a running game with my aunt about who sees the first deer and turkeys along the road. He usually spots one first…

True Love Never Dies: A Review of First Love, by Violeta Barrett

First Love, by Violeta Barrett is a well-written, heart-felt and honest memoir, one that reminds us that “true love never dies.”

The author opens her heart and candidly shares with readers how she fell in love with her tour guide in Mexico during a holiday back in 1956. Not only that,  but she also shares with us the 76 love letters that kept their…

You Are A Divine Being

You are not who you think you are. You are not that face you see in the mirror every morning. You are not someone’s child, or someone’s parent, or partner or friend. You are not the physical body you admire or criticize when you take a shower, or when you get dressed.

Neither are you the profile description on your social networking page, or your high school diploma, your driver’s license, or your title at work. You are not defined by your career, or the things you own, or the family…

Becoming the character

I’m very happy with my new cover for PULP. I’ve contacted my editor and formatter, so the process is underway for my eighth novel to be published electronically. It’s been a long, twenty-year road to get these books complete but now that I’m nearing the end of my backlist of previously written novels, I can now concentrate on future projects, namely my latest, IMAGINATION. It’s been seven months of work and I’m about seventy percent complete. The book is written and the characters and plot…

Poem: Joyful, Patient and Faithful

Lord, keep me ever mindful and joyful,

knowing that You are the True source of my hope.

With Your daily mercies, renew my spirit

with a resolute perspective, based on The Word.

Lord, remind me to always be patient,

since my pain pales in comparison to any…

of the afflictions suffered by You

on my behalf during Your crucifixion at Calvary.

Lord, teach me to be faithful in prayer.

I…

Poem: God Ordained Trials

Learn from Apostle Paul’s and Job’s life lessons,

for faith’s gold will be tested and purified;

tribulations are faced by God’s daughters and sons,

but only through Christ - can one be justified.

The troubles of the day will eventually find us;

but will you be prepared by the principles of Love?

Remember the divine words of the Lord Christ Jesus

and draw strength from His righteous Kingdom above.

The rain falls on both the Just and Unjust;

so…

Editing & Graphics & Pre-marketing

Working with a wonderful editor; the process not as grueling as anticipated...that's a relief!

Beginning to work through the cover graphics; off to a bit of a shaky start likely attributable to me inability to articulate the concept in my mind.  However, I'm communicating better and expect progress soon.

Pre-marketing efforts well underway...fortunate in that my target market is readily identifiable.  Writing two blogs a week; fortunately they have been picked up by two notable…

Strange Story

 Strange story

Some years ago I was invited to speak at a church meeting.  My theme was ‘getting involved’, Pauline was with me and she also spoke along similar lines, emphasising the need for people who call themselves Christian to ‘get their hands dirty’ and care for God’s world.  James 1:27 (NIV) tells us, ‘religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and keep oneself from being…

Quetzalcoatl Bestowes Blessing of the New Age

“…the New Ager felt Quetzalcoatl’s energy soaking into his pores—an energy stripped from the surface of Venus and transported to him on the rays of sunshine. He rejoiced in the glow, in the feeling of the Venus Transit.”  -excerpt from EFFIGY

Back then

It was announced that Amazon.com has acquired Avalon books. While this move by Amazon proves that the digital publishing revolution is gaining strength, it hits me personally for two reasons. One, I think it will give new respect to indie writers who are publishing through Amazon, and two, I almost had a publishing deal with Avalon many years back. Well, kinda. It was for my novel, FROSTPROOF and it was a very exciting time. The internet had just begun to develop into the huge creature it…
