I’ve heard the expression that every author finds his or her own voice after they’ve written for awhile. I’ve never been sure what my voice is though I’ve hoped it might become one that make readers think of me when they read a book I didn’t write. I suspect it would be hard for any author to liken his own work to another. So if I had to choose an author that I write similar to I wouldn’t know how to do it. That’s why it was fun to try out a site G.H. Monroe told me about on Facebook in his…

Isn't it amazing ?! My books seem to be selling quite well, so it really doesn't matter, but I find it extraordinary that not one of my SEVEN brothers and sisters or EIGHTEEN cousins have bought a copy of any of my four books. The very people who said "ooooh, how clever, we'll buy a copy!" - ie almost all my friends - don't do so.
I was warned about this by another authors' forum. All the things that you think your chums will help with - giving out book marks, posting good…

The Recipe – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat; Think With Your Taste Buds; and A Book and A Dish
“I said I’ll get it for you tomorrow,” Sal said shakily. “I promise, I will.” Sweat was pouring down his face. “I promise you, please,” he pleaded, with both palms facing the men in a useless defense. “Not good enough, Sal, you had…

Being a writer means experiencing dizzying highs and terrifying lows as a novel transforms into reality on the page. There are times when you believe that everything you’ve written is total crap and there are times when a character reveals something or does something that you hadn’t expected and you find yourself on this emotional high. This is also true when it comes to sales. Unfortunately, I’m obsessed with checking my sales numbers so my emotions can swing greatly from one day to the…

Here's a book written by a man who has learned to be open and articulate about his emotions. He leads us down into mind-numbing machine-gun duty in Afghanistan, then back up his unique, inspired journey to sanity and bliss.
I discovered Bryan Wood 's book, Unspoken Abandonment, as a Memorial Day promo but it has a powerful core of good advice for Fathers' Day or any time celebrating human relationships.…

Hello to fellow authors and fellow readers! I have just joined. I love books and collect old ones. I have several GA Henty first editions and many far older. I enjoy all sorts of books as long as they are well-written. I have always wanted to be a writer and am coming in to the market rather late in life ......
I hope you enjoy my books, aimed mostly at women. "A Call from France" is aimed at mothers; Francophile mothers would be a boost. It is a true story.
The other…

Part of the fun of writing an ongoing series is creating new characters with each story. I have the same core characters from the beginning (two of which I love almost like they were my own daughters). A large part of the newest plot has to do with a great guy I call Karl Lumpkin.

As I write this, I’ve reached a milestone in my writing career. As of last count nearly 10,000 of my books have been downloaded. Not all were sales as some were free promotion giveaways, but enough of a percentage of them were purchased that it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something. As I’ve always said, it’s all about exposure. The more people who read my books and talk about them, the more grassroots, word-of-mouth sales will grow. I just contacted my cover artist and formatter…

I've been known as the "Real Life Fiction for Real Life People" author. I mix fact and fiction and weave stories you can relate to. Now I'm thinking about expanding my genres. Check out the first three chapters of "Ashley In Albuquerque." It's the story of Paul Summer, a 50-ish Indie author who goes around the country pimping his books, but eventually ends up pimping himself too.
Let me know what you think!…

My paranormal Egyptian suspense, The Ka, is on Amazon's Top 100 list again. It's been there off and on for the last two years.
Too, my writer's reference, Write It Right - Tips for Authors, is also on Amazon's Top 100.
This is pure joy!
