Abbie's Rival

Abbie Palmer is obsessed with her beautiful rich French pen friend, Colette, who she has always wanted to meet, but when Colette tells her she is coming to England in the summer holidays to visit, Abbie panics: she hasn't been entirely truthful about her home life and she's afraid Colette won't want to have anything more to do with her if she finds out she's been lying. Abbie…

Making eyes at the bigger prize

July 16th. 2016

It has been a quiet week for me, with nothing to show in my diary except for one event that had nothing to do with writing. On Monday, my wife received a phone call at two o’clock from the local hospital in Chichester. Would she be available for her cataract operation that afternoon? Yes, I says (demonstrative!). So we’re there at three o’clock and home by six — cataract done. No time to worry, no long wait for the op. Now she can see through that…

What I Am Reading

When The Lights Go Out combines two of my favorite characteristics in a book: horror and short stories. Though not every single short I would have given 5 stars to, the…

Customized Story Books – The way back to reading

When I was little girl, I loved to read. I remember thinking about the stories and adventures and often imagined myself being there, with my favorite characters. My best memories of childhood revolved around those books, those characters, those very first friends waiting for me to meet them again and again, every time I opened a book. For kids who are growing up in an ever more technological world and environment I think these…

Poem: Prayer of a Heavy Heart

O Lord, my heavy heart hurts

and my tongue can’t find words

to articulate the inward pain,

as my spirit struggles to avert

reiterations of disappointment.

My thoughts of being distraught,

exhausted and overwhelmed steal

the inner peace of my contentment.

I’m humbled by my circumstances;

now I’m casting my cares upon You;

I’m reaching for Your rest, yoke

and peace, to have another chance

of moving forward with Your…

Poem: Congregation of the Dead

In lifeless patterns of repetition,

the congregation of the dead assemble,

eddying around the Light of Truth;

lacking reverence, they sadly tremble

and cringe during the Sunday Service,

seeking loopholes from accountability;

after all, regular attendance grants

the sacred status of Church nobility.

Meanwhile, frustrated ministers hurl

their verbal rocks, in futile attempts

to weed out their spiritual deadwood,

unaware that their…

Poem: Rise Up

As Children of The Almighty,

we have the God-given ability

to rise up, without the shame

of knowing who we really are,

despite our souls’ fragility.

Have we been taught and shown

Love, Mercy, Grace, Forgiveness

and Peace that we require daily?

So what is holding us back now,

from overcoming this human mess

of feeling inadequate or ignorant?

About 90% of The World is headed

towards Hell, unconvinced about

the…

Poem: Obstacles in Life

Life’s obstacles can only delay us

from achieving our God-given purpose;

instead of becoming frustrated, we

should look to Christ and just focus

on the underlying issues in prayer.

Obstacles may perfect personal traits,

like having peace by waiting on Him,

so that our hearts are not deflated.

They kick up dust, blinding our vision

whereby, we must go back to Him again;

When our eyes are focused on Christ,

He lights our path and…

Dream Journal

It is amazing how the Lord speaks to us. In dreams, through visions, words of knowledge, prophetic words spoken by others and in those Kingdom circles when prophecy bubbles forth, as moved by the Spirit.

Never knowing when God might speak to us, this book is made available for that very reason. As a journal…

Letters from the Home Front (Part I)

Children grew up fast during the American Civil War as they were forced to endure hardships and take on adult responsibilities. Under pressure from the war, some children joined the army to become drummer boys. Some decided to become powder monkeys in the navy. And some decided to stay home and take care of their families after their fathers and brothers went to join…
