In a recent teleseminar, I shared the following 10 things you can do in the next week to sell more books. Here is a short summary of what I covered:
1. 90% of marketing efforts are wasted. This is not a bad thing. Learn how to use this insight to set better priorities.
2. Book marketing is all about creating relationships. The only reason to hire a publicist is to hire them for their relationships. Ask, “Who do you know?” It’s all about creating…

One day of the '08/'09 school year is now under my belt, and another exciting nine months begins!
I actually woke up at 4:30 this morning and took a walk around my neighborhood before getting ready to go to school. I also had a dream last night where I had gotten out of bed, looked out my window, washed my hands, and headed back to the bed -- only it turns out I had never gotten out of bed in the first place! Analyze THAT, Sigmund Freud!
All weekend…

Being The Best
August 25th, 2008
One thing I have learned through the years is that being the best is a good goal to have. Now sometimes we win a prize for being the best. We might get money or fame. That is ok, nothing wrong with money and fame! I would not mind a little of both myself! LOL! That is not what I am talking about though. What I am talking about is ever so much more important than money ever could be, and a million times more important than fame. I am talking about the…

Wow! All I can say is thanks, Mirella!
"I just finished reading this novel on the weekend and although I'm a true blue historical fiction reader, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fabulous sleuth thriller soon to be released by Enspiren Press. So here's my sneak peak at an early review:
Joe Banks is an ex-cop turned private detective, a family man respected for his high moral character. A friendly contact in the insurance industry hires him to investigate a liquor theft at…

Tomorrow is the first day of school for all of us Texas public school teachers, and I know we're all running around like chickens with our heads cut off (a favorite saying of my old high school basketball coach, The Guam Bomb). So just a quick little note here.
Today and tomorrow are the last days to take advantage of the 25% discount that
Spreadshirt is offering as part of their Back to School…

It was a very happy day in the friendly land of Oodleville. It was Mama Oodle-Bird’s 100th birthday. It was also the day when one of the Oodles would make the first trip out of Oodleville to the Land Beyond. It would be a…

Calix Meus Inebrians--While we bring the chalice to our lips to imbibe the passion of our hearts, words become the substance of the wine—words that string out into lines and stanzas—words that weave into allusions and illusions—words that form a means to transport us to the elusive place where we’re willing to indulge in the ultimate experience—love. As Calix Meus Inebrians (my chalice inebriates me) the following poems are rendered as a celebration of the fusion of the flesh; may it serve as a…

Like dangerous intruders, tropical storms, often a prelude to hurricanes, still dance outside in some parts of Florida. That eerie feeling washes over me. I can’t help it. My mind works overtime at the sounds outside—the whistling, the roaring, and the drops of rain as they pelt against the window—a monster outside—one that stalks our senses.
Each sound stirred memories of past hurricanes. But more devastating, the reminder that the darkest of stalkers roams around even during sunny…

I met Austin a few years ago at a large book festival and receive his newsletter every week. He is always on the go, too! (I thought I was a road warrior, but wow!) Austin was gracious enough to give me some quotes for my upcoming non-fiction book, "Overcoming Obstacles With Spunk! The Keys to leadership & Goal-Setting", and even had time to answer some questions.
Thank you, Austin!
I envy anyone who can write mystery/thriller! How did you come to select that genre for… Continue

In tenth grade I took a book out of the library entitled How To Develop a Million-Dollar Personality, and that was the beginning of what would become a 30-year obsession to try and fix whatever I thought was wrong with me. I embarked on a lifelong quest for answers, looking for God in all the wrong places and some of the right ones, in…

My newest ebook, Scent of Lavender, is available for download from Cerridwen Press. This is my second paranormal romance and I hope you’ll find it as eerie and romantic as the first. And for my fellow Texans, the story is set in our very own Hill Country area, complete with whispering oak trees and murmuring creeks, scorching afternoon sunlight and spine-chilling twilight, and a spooky old Victorian house with more than its share of secrets.
For those of you who haven’t yet tried…

I've been in need of some inspiration lately. It's the dog days of summer after all. So, we got in the car and headed to the Grand Canyon last weekend. The Hualapai Indians have opened their new Skybridge and we wanted to check it out. The views of the west end of the Grand Canyon are terrific. On a side note: Grand Canyon West is expensive ($20 to park, $30 per person to enter, $30 per person to walk on the Skybridge). $80 for a lovely view seems extreme to me. And, the waits are long for the…
