Around the Globe with RODNEY ROBBINS

An early trip this week with our featured author due to the fact I'll be in Nashville on Friday. However, today in Iowa it looks to be another very warm day, so I'm off to meet Rodney Robbins in Denmark this morning. While doing the interview, we're touring the National Museum, looking at the Gundestrup Cauldron and other Celtics relics. Then we're seeking out a open…

John Reed "Another Lousy Day in Paradise"

Ready to take a trip down memory lane? Do you remember the time period between 1978 and 1983? Okay, were you even born yet? I know I am an oldhead, so for me I was into the fun romp through some of the memories of music, clothing, word usage(slang), places similar to Space Port, and many other things John Reed details in his debut novel. The time period is special for me because I met, fell in love with my wife and got married during this time period. Although Jay Cody had his share of…

Walter Ramsey "Beneath the Dune"

Refreshing, that is a very simple word to describe this novel, just refreshing. The style ,substance, and overall feel of this novel was a breath of fresh air in a very crowded genre. I enjoyed Walter Ramsey’s narrative and the way he developed his characters. He comes straight at us the reader, no muss, no fuss, just straight out fun, excitement, and action. He finds a nice way to blend a variety of elements together in a very cohesive way, nice and linear, kept the tangents to a…

Alexandrea Weis "For You" Volume One of The NOLA series

When Alexandra Weis agreed to do a new series with Trestle Press, she wanted to have it revolve around something she is intensely passionate about. I knew that nothing short of amazing was going to be coming to us the reader from this award winning author. The NOLA series is already off to an incredible and fast start as the first installment she drops on us, “For You”, is just that, amazing. The ending is something that readers will be discussing for a while I…

The Pen Temptress

Yes, The Pen Temptress is at it again...busy, busy. Two wonderful authors have asked for interview so I am trying to get those questions answered. Alexanra Heep is interested in my OTHER passion, dragracing, and if I ever combine that with writing. Yes, there is a WIP about it, but on the back burner right now. Guess my muse has a need for speed!

Aging a story to perfection

Finished my newest middle grade sci/fi novel, INSECTLAND yesterday and now it’s off to get its cover. I am using my usual ebook cover person, Judy Bullard. This is a book I started in January of 1997 and have been tweaking ever since. It’s funny how some novels can be written in a few months while others, like this one, can take years.

Actually, I think I need to clarify something here. It didn’t take me this long to write the book, I actually wrote the book in four months…

Book 2-Amazing Gracie Mystery Series-Specious Nephew-1st Chapter

A couple weeks ago I went on twitter to click on recent followers. For once the whole list came up fairly quick without telling me to wait because of a hiccup. Turned out to be more tweets than I had received notice about in my emails. I sent a message thanking each one and mentioned my books. In return I had a message back from Kindle Surprise. If I would email my book titles the books would be mentioned on Twitter. I did that. Then I had a tweet on Twitter from Booksie Jar telling me my…

What is your writing style? Mine, well, that is kind of backward.

Happy Monday to everybody! Okay, stop grumbling, a new week has started; let’s get rolling. I ask every author I get the privilege to speak with,  “What is your style: do you outline?, Do you  just go with your idea? Do you do a little of both?” Basically I have come to the conclusion that each is different no matter what and the style choices are just as individual as snowflakes. I get to ask Joel Andre this same question a little later on today on my blogtalk radio show The…

1.4 million dollars is all I need to keep my wife happy.

My wife and I live near a lake and every morning we take a long walk. Well, this morning my wife turns to me and says out of the blue; “You need to make 1.4 million dollars.”

“Done,” I replied.

“No really,” she pressed. “We need 1.4 million dollars.”

“Why that amount?” I asked.

She gave me this answer. 1.4 million dollars is the number she came up with that will allow us to retire; which sounded good to me since we’re both in our early forties. She came…

'Growing Forward'

I am a first-time author! I have just self-published my first book 'Growing Forward', which tells the story of my childhood in a fundamentalist Christian cult in England during the late 1950's and early 1960's. I escaped from the cult alone in 1973, aged 17, and the book goes on to tell my story as I found my feet in the 'real world', recounts the mistakes I made and the different steps I took. When I was 19 I found myself in Borstal (young offenders institution) and I had testicular cancer…

What would really happen if you hit it big as a writer?

For years and years, I dreamed of hitting it big as a writer. That dream kept me going through twelve hour days slaving in a corporate kitchen, through hard financial times, and even through bad relationships. The dream got closer when I signed with a top NY agency and even closer when editors of big publishing houses were requesting my stuff. But alas, the big viral hit still hasn’t happened. The books are written and being written, and quite a few are available for purchase and have…

Book Marketing Tip - Sharing the Word with Libraries

My publisher sent me off this week, off with parcel of books. Copies of 'Gate of Tears' to deliver to my local county library.

In the UK, public libraries are under threat of execution. Many (some reports say 400) are seriously threatened because of cuts in public expenditure. Book acquisitions are being cut.

'You're a new product' my publisher says. You need to build a readership. Fair enough. Free…

Jeff Abbott "Adrenaline"

I am always up to reading about the birth of a new character aren’t you? I was captivated by Sam very quickly, his wife not so much. But I digress. The twist and turns in this novel are many, the double crosses and triple crosses are plentiful and the action is just about nonstop. I like the title of the novel; it fits. The ensemble cast was fun for me; their morals and code of ethics were pretty plain, and the good guy, well he just rocks. Jeff Abbott took me on a rollercoaster of a ride…
