Gelati's Scoop Top 20 Novels of The Summer!

It is that time of the year again, it is Labor Day Weekend, and some people claim summer fun is over! I disagree!! The kids are back to school and that means…peace and quiet. Yes that forgotten lack of noise that

comes from the little rugrats or adolescents playing their video games. I for

one love our children, but don’t mind a little less noise and distractions. I

am getting old I guess. So, not to bore you anymore with any more of my ramblings,

here…

Books that changed me

This is my second post tonight; just feel like posting. Give me five minutes - my six year old wants me to read him a bedtime story - glad he likes reading and books - by the way, I'm in Australia, and it's 8.28pm here as I type this, so please don't think I keep my kids up to ungodly hours.

In one of the Sunday newspapers here in the book review section, they ask a reviewed author to list five books that 'changed' them. I often dream up my answer for when they interview me!…

Slightly Maudlin Musings from a very sleepy writer

Have just watched a movie - 'Kids' from 1995. Very confronting, and deals with underage sexual activity. One of the characters is diagnosed HIV positive. This is the most depressing movie I have seen since 'Hunger'. But I don't mind a depressing movie occasionally. Life is not all beer and skittles. But right now I'm ready to go and stick my head in the toilet.

Could be just that I'm exhausted. My other half and I baby sat three kids last night, along with our two, as well as…

Your Book Cover: What Kind of a First Impression Does It Make?

I was just reading a blog where a lady said she was ashamed to admit

she tends to ignore books with amateurish covers even though she

suspects some of the stories inside those covers might be pretty good.

As a book cover designer (www.bookcoversandvideos.webs.com) I can tell you no one should feel guilty about judging a book by its cover.

Why?

Because humans are, by nature, extremely… Continue

Digital Short Saturday Carla Rene

How to Write the Great American Leaflet:

1. Stare at a blank screen for forty-minutes.

2. Place fingers over the keys, poised and ready for when inspiration strikes.

3. Check the internet for mail.

4. Get serious about writing and return to your still blank screen.

5. Take a phone call.

6.…

Digital Short Saturday Jason McIntyre

I'm new(ish) to the world of ebooks. Up to this point, many authors have felt ebooks were the second string player to traditional print media. These days, though, e-everything is taking off and books in digital form

are no exception. Every maker of the reading devices has upped their game and

the gadgets themselves are of such high quality now. As such, the marketing of ebooks has taken to

the Internet,…

Graphic Novel Friday Astonishing X-Men Joss Whedon

The number of words in this post is going to be few. I am at a loss to adequately describe what I got to be a part of .The X-Men have been a big part of my collection from the number one issue. They were one of the

cornerstones of the collection I had till I had to let it go. That being said

this graphic novel is probably one of the best executed graphic novels I have

ever seen. It is just that good.

The team of Joss Whedon and…

Word Usage Confusion

Many writers confuse word usage mostly because of past and present tense. So today, I have a fun word usage game using ‘Lay’ and ‘Lie’. No, I did not come up with this. I actually did this at a writing brunch a few months back, but before we jump into the game, I would love to share a great way to avoid using either of these words. Why? Because trying to remember which one to use can be annoying so why do it to yourself. I understand there will be times you cannot get away from not using one or… Continue

Lee Goldberg The Walk

Getting this post started was a tough one for me. I received an opportunity to read a novel by Lee Goldberg that he had penned a few moons ago, how many I am not sure. I think

most good novels are not like bread and don’t have a shelf life and get stale

and moldy after a certain date. The Walk

was originally printed in January 2004; mine was printed August 25, 2010. The

new technology is amazing. But I digress yet again.…
