R.W. Doyen "Green Eyes, Black Heart"

Elemental, that is the way I would describe this read. “Green Eyes, Black Heart” has many different elements to it. It is multi-faceted, and that translates into one excellent read. The synopsis will give you the gist of the story, but understand that the layers in this are seemingly more than an onion but all of them are nicely tied together at the end. For me it was like R.W. Doyen took a pane of glass, dropped it, and then took his time, painstakingly putting it back together, one shard…

Is it worth it to even try to get an agent?

The year is 2005 and I just signed with my agent at

Fineprint Literary. I was full of hope and excitement and dreams of hitting it

big. Unfortunately, three and a half years later we ended our contract. Now,

with six books available for sale and another four on the way I’m beginning to

wonder if it is worth the effort to try and get signed again. Considering the

average “good” agent receives over 100 email queries a day, what are my odds of

getting discovered even if…

Q&A with me over at EBookery

I was lucky enough to be interviewed over at Ebookery this week. Here is the interview. The blog is beautiful, I suggest you give it a visit: http://eviljwinter.wordpress.com/

Tell us in your own words what Trestle Press is and what makes them unique.

Uniqueness, I like that one. I think that one of the ways we stand out is that we want our authors to not just write but to create their best every time their fingers hit the…

Michael Brandman “Killing The Blues” A Jesse Stone Novel

I think like many fans saddened by the passing of Robert Parker, we were left with a question in our heads. Is this franchise going to be carried on and if so by whom?  I have included Michael Brandman’s bio after the synopsis so if you have not heard of the author or his creds, now you do. I have to admit and have done so many times that I am a huge fan of Parker’s and his many franchises. Jesse Stone, the king of dialogue, is one of my favorites. I saw that this was set for release and I…

Cold Hearted Son of a Witch - M. R. Mathias, Author

Cold Hearted Son of a Witch – Dragoneers Saga Book II – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat and Think With Your Taste Buds – Desserts

‘The Crown Prince lay peacefully, as if asleep, inside the currently green-colored magical field.  He was afflicted with the Goblin King’s poison, a terrible stuff that had…

Linna Drehmel “Other Side of the Glass”

Paranormal,Supernatural, call it what you will, Linna Drehmel puts her best foot forward with a very nice debut effort. I have gotten to read an eclectic mix of stories of late, and it has been a bit weird floating around from not only different genres but different sizes of reads: digital short story, novella, and full length novel. I use that word with qualification anymore because full length work, or what is considered to be “full length”, has changed and morphed quite a bit with this…

Pay It Forward

I admire established authors who "pay it forward;" in other words, who use what they've learned, and the contacts they've made along their own road to publication, to encourage and support aspiring authors. I've had the privilege of meeting some of them both in person and online and I'm grateful to them.

In this dog-eat-dog world, with the state of the economy and the constant changes in the publishing industry, it's easy for first-time…

T.L. Cooper guest post: review of “Sharpshooter” by David Hoof

Sharpshooter by David L. Hoof brought one word to mind repeatedly as I read it: unflinching. The characters were bold, brash, and at times almost too real. The setting was harsh and cold yet beautiful. The story was unapologetic in its examination of human behavior and attitudes. And, all this lead me back to the word unflinching. Hoof's characters' words were often far from politically correct and often made this reader flinch or squirm in her seat yet it depicted the characters' attitudes…

S.L. Schmitz "Mina's Daughter...The Harker Chronicles" Volume One: STEAMPUNK ANYONE????

I was intrigued when I read this. What in God’s name is Steampunk ?  Being the mental giant I am, I had to go right to dictionary.com and this is what I came up with, direct from the website:

  Steampunk  [steem-puhngk] Like this word?

1. a subgenre of science fiction and fantasy featuring advanced machines and other technology based on steam power of the 19th century and taking place in a recognizable historical period or a fantasy…

Review: The Two Johns

Once again, Mr. Gelati is rather generous with his words about my words. Today

he reviews The Two Johns. This is my first entry for Trestle Press's Author's

Lab series. I had an excellent time working with Giovanni and he had some things

to say about my work.

"Reading the work is like watching a skilled

mechanic go about his business..." from Gelati's Scoop.

Sam Lang "Two Johns" The Author's Lab/Collaboration series

I think you may have heard me say many times on my blogtalk radio show The G-ZONE that Sam Lang is: “one sick puppy”. Now I say that in the best possible way because what Sam Lang writes is horror, and he writes it rather well, maybe too well. He has a penchant for cranking up the tension, raising the suspense level and also for having a very dry, cutting sense of humor. When you combine all those qualities, I think that makes for some goose bumps and really good horror reading.…

Darren Sant "Community Spirit" Volume 2 The Longcroft Estate series

Last week I was lucky enough to speak with Darren Sant, the author of “Flash of Revenge” and “The Longcroft Estate” series on my blogtalk radio show The G-ZONE.  I will include the link for that down below for you to enjoy. It was a nice interview and very telling. Why telling? For me it is very simple and the answer obvious if you get to know Darren at all: he is a really nice guy; his intentions are good, and he cares about his readers. Each of the digital short stories he has published…

Robert Ford "Love Stories" from The World of Hek series & a Quandry

A very interesting thing happened on the way to getting this novella sized work published: we could not get a consensus on the cover art. What do I mean by that? The story goes like this: I made two covers for Robert Ford to select from, and he liked both of them; he really couldn’t decide. The decision was made to put them up on our social networks and see what you the people thought about them, maybe something would shake out. Nothing did but great comments. It was split 50% to 50% after…
