The 10 Common Traits of An Entrepreneur

1. Driven by an internal value or meaning - Example: my # 1 value that I want and need most in my life is freedom. Freedom of choice, freedom of expression, freedom to explore, for others it may be creativity they must express their creativity and can only do so in their own unique way. Others have a real value around making a contribution or to make a difference in the world.

I never see money as the #1 priority or driving force.

2. Natural Leaders - They are people who… Continue

Spiritual Harmony and the Land

I don’t know about all of you but the forest fires that are going on in this nation are making my spirit ponder a couple of things. The first thing that troubles my spirit is the frequency of the forest fires that have been occurring in our nation over the last few years. When I see the increasing news coverage of the forest fires that are ravaging…

Finding Your Spiritual Muse

One of my personal missions as a published author, is to help other writers and authors in any way I can, when I can. So when a friend asked me to help her promote a course that she is teaching, I was very happy to. Catherine Kuehne is a member of the Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC). I have seen her at a number of events lately, always supporting authors, including my own book launch for Whale Song. Now it's my turn to support her.…

Patience Really Is A Virtue

Anyone who has ever worked with me can attest that there is usually a method to my madness. As in painting, I study the composition and take in everything. Starting from the outside in, I get to know the author and their work so I can add the ‘heartbeat’ to their work. Sound strange? It isn’t but it creates an awful problem for me… authors are not patient clients.

I have heard it all and it always ends with: ‘… but I am so impatient’.

Well, think of this: it is very… Continue

The N Word

My aunt who is at least twenty years my senior recently asked me a question that took me by surprise. It was a question that immediately touched and ignited my spirit. Her question to me was what is the difference between a white person using the N word and black person using the N word ? My answer to them was that there is a very big difference and I took the time out to explain to them…

Dirty Bombs

It seems that the war in Iraq is a never ending saga that has now taken on a life of its own and seems surreal. Many of our troops have been killed since this war started. Now the rate of troops that are being killed is reaching staggering amounts because of the use of dirty bombs that are getting more deadly as the…

Whale Song and Oprah

Today I sent off another email to my dear friend Oprah. Okay, I'll admit, she's not really my friend (yet!), since I've never met her and she doesn't know I exist. But I admire her and want to be her friend. I have renewed admiration for her after watching the show on the girls' school in Africa that she built. What an amazing, awe-inspiring gift she has given. She shared a powerful message with me through that show. I want to donate my books, visit the school and share my dream of… Continue

Book Excerpt From My Upcoming Book: Winning The Game of Business: The Entreprenuer's Quest For Ultimate Success

Introduction

This book began long before I actually sat down to write. It began the morning I decided to change the direction of my life. I call this my defining moment.

Back then; I was 22 years old and going nowhere fast. I had no money, no place to live, no car, and no job. I had alienated my family and friends. My dad was a successful businessman, but I had spent years separating myself from him. He did not know how to emotionally connect with many people, especially me,… Continue

A Group Writing Effort

Our writing group, Daedalus, has undertaken an interesting project. This group of five women college/high school professors plus me, meets monthly to critique each other's work. We are the distillate of probably three-dozen former members who came and went over the last twelve years. Our membership stabilized about five years ago and seems destined to continue into the…

Print-on-Demand companies, Comparison, recommendations?

I will be using a Print on Demand service for most of the books we'll publish...

I was considering using BookSurge, because it is the one most closely associated with Amazon...but I ordered a few books that use BookSurge, and was not impressed with the quality of the look and feel of the books.

Have you used/compared the different print-on-demand options?

Any recommendations, based on the quality of the final…
